This is a blue board which means that it's for everybody (Safe For Work content only). If you see any adult content, please report it.

I'm trying to remember the name of a game I played as a child back in the late 90's on the PC.

The game let you look at different rooms in a castle from a fixed perspective, and you could interact with them by placing several characters and watching them interact with the castle.
Among the characters, I remember there was a boy, a girl, a cartoony dragon, and a jester. I think the jester had blue skin. I remember that you could make the characters walk faster (or glide in the case of the dragon) if you clicked on them. I think there was also a knight on a horse carrying a lance, but I'm not sure.
I remember there was a river surrounding the castle gate, and one of the rooms was a basement the river passed through. You could drop the characters in the river and watch them get all flustered and wet.
Another room had a mirror in it, and I remember something unusual would happen if the characters interacted with it.

The graphics looked kinda like this, but the character sprites were way simpler.

Plz help me out. It's driving me crazy.

No, that's not it. It's not an adventure game.

They have hipster minimalistic covers, but they claim to be highly researched books covering the development of video games. Do they do indepth research and interviews or is it just rehashing common knowledge and what they skimmed from Wikipedia? They have titles on

No clue on the contents, but that generic as fuck cover screams "bound Wikipedia article." Speaking of which, are those still a thing? I remember several years ago that some accounts on eBay were apparently literally selling Wikipedia articles, presumably printed and bound.

Massive motherfag here who was moderately interested in the EB book. I did some research on them and they are just some literal who's essays on games and shit. Not really anything interesting. As far as info it's probably nothimg you couldn't get from wikipedia.

I always shill this site when it comes up, great resource for translated Japanese interviews.

Kotaku has some exerpts and they seem pretty indepth. But the question I ask is: what are they basing this on?

>Mega Man 3

Looks to be an overview of the development process, focusing on how Mega Man was able to survive without Kitamura-san.

>Chrono Trigger:

Based on this, it's some big nerd essay analyzing the plot/game/story/philosophy. Yawn. Who cares? Just Nerd Trash.

>Super Mario Bros 3

Picked up pic related yesterday and love it! What are some other Disney themed platformers that are as good or better than Ducktales?

Also I need help getting the theme song out of my head! It's catchy af https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=NmpAx8Z5z40

Was making the secondary characters better a mistake?

In Donkey Kong Country, Diddy is faster. Everyone I know seems to have prefered playing as him rather than DK, which only had the fairly forgettable "ground slap" move going for him - Diddy's speed and evasion prevailed. Not only that, Diddy shielded himself with barrels when carrying them.

Then comes Donkey Kong Country 2 and Diddy is also surpassed by his partner. Dixie seemed like easymode with her gliding, almost unfair sometimes.

Can't say the same about the third installment, the exception as Dixie was too much. Kiddy is slow and has no gliding, although he has water bouncing for just a few stages. He can also throw Dixie far away, which counts more as a duo thing.

In the end, at least in the first two games, the result was the majority of stages cleared by the secondary character instead of the protagonist, even the final boss.
How could the characters have been better balanced?
And how would an hypothetical fourth game starring DK and Kiddy play out?

Grunty, such a good final boss. It makes up for the lack of bosses in the rest of the game.
JFG's bossfights are also amazing, They have that Cabal-like element to it.

how do i play this game
8 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
With the d-pad.
>>
>>4132357
B is strike, hold it for strong strike
A is grapple, hold it for strong grapple
D pad to determine which grapple
I think down c is run, i think grapple and down C for irish whip
Control stick to taunt or activate special, grapple and control stick for special move
L and R for either grapple or strike reversal(timing sensitive)

It's been years since I played this game, and I mostly played Virtual Pro 2

I need some advice, /vr/ - I have an old Sony Trinitron which has recently died.

Is there an alternative method where I can use my modern TV? I've heard about the Framemeister and the OSSC but not sure if that's what they're designed for?

Using modern TVs to play retro consoles is a whole world in itself. Read the wiki and google up

I believe the same guy who did Link's Awakening german localization was also in charge of doing the comics on Nintendo's official german magazine, which had a very fiendish and straight up satanic Wario. In one of the comics Wario takes down the world trade center.
Not sure what the whole story is, or how the guy got away with it, especially since Germany, of all places, seems to be a very sensitive place in post-war days, they censor video games the most against violence or things like that.

Hey VR
Taking a week off work to rest and read and I recently got my hands on a henkaku vita that is becoming my portable emulation station.
So I'm looking for suggestions. I'm mostly looking for NES/SNES and GB/GBA games, but those are the systems I had as a kid, so maybe I should be lookin for some Sega classics from you guys. Can play PS1 games as well but I've only got 3 gigs or so to play around with and those ROMs add up.
I really dig platformers and action RPGs. Turnbased RPGs are okay but ive probably played all the good ones. I love scary games but somehow i doubt I'd find anything properly spooky in the 8-16bit generation. I'm open to anything else that you guys might feel strongly about. Seriously, i've got all the retroarch cores on this thing so anything pre-ps1 is open season.

as a follow up, i've got most of the classics as far as NES & SNES goes, I've got pretty much all the metroid games and castlevania games i can fit in addition to all the more popular supermetroid rom hacks.
I'm going to spend some time tonight seeing if i can get a decent N64 framerate on this thing. I've never played majora's mask and i feel like this is a great opportunity to do just that.
>>
What's the current state of emulation on the vita?
Was looking to get a psp for the various emulators but is it worth getting the vita over the psp?
>>
>>4131061
if youre on 3.60 you can go to a website and unlock everything with henkaku. it's a soft-patch or whatever the verbiage would be. if i power off my device i lose henkaku. all my stuff remains though. just wont function until i go back to the website and re-install. it's like 1 meg, it's quick.
they have an apk so that you can host the fix on an android device for times when you may be lacking a wifi connection but need to apply the fix, works perfectly. Theres a retroarch port thats around 150 megs that gives me all the VR cores i'd need. Turns out theres no N64 just yet so I'm S.O.L. there but pretty much everything else going back in time. Theres a NDS emulator port that's slow as shit and one or two non-Retroarch emulator ports that get slightly better speed. I use one for SNES to get max FPS and another one for GBA because it has better GBC pallette support. All in all I'm really happy.
The current henaku version allows for PSN version spoofng so i can install a legit game or swap around my library if need be without any risk. Or so it seems.
I think the vita hardware is a bit better, I'm not sure you'd be able to find a brand new PSP either, but if you get a vita it absolutely has to be on 3.60, so that's one caveat.
