What are/were some of your favorite codes to use on retro games?
Have you made any of your own GG/PAR codes before?
My favorite as a kid was giving myself more hammer bros suits in SMB3, and I just discovered the other day that a code could add slide to MM1/MM2 in Wily Wars, so I use that now.
Here's a site with a full list of codes:
http://gamehacking.org
I have these two by heart, which is sad because they are for SMW.
Truth be told, kid me didn't know spin jump was so fucking broken in that game, I never used it.
Cut twenty years and see youtubes of people spin jumping off boos and thwomps and saws.
Fuck me, that game is easy mode now.
No adults that played the game ever knew that shit either, it seemed, because I saw a lot of people play it and never saw how invincible spin jump is.
Anyway, CBED-6DDF and C222-D4DD.
I DID hack the shit out of game genie codes on the SNES though.
If you substitute iirc E or F at the end of some codes it does crazy stuff. Sim City as I recall you could do that and it would make it so you make a dollar for every square of park you build, so if I got short I could just build park over park in my donut-city-block centers, and could thus keep taxes stomped down.

Infinite Health for Batman Forever The Arcade Game on the Playstation 1 via the Game Shark. That game is frustrating to beat without that code.
>Have you made any of your own GG/PAR codes before?
I used to have a game genie for the old brick game boy and there was no other game I used it more on than pokemon. At some point after the game's release a code surfaced that let you catch mew near cerulean. Using google right quick, I think it was 151-91A-7FC.
Since mew was the 151st pokemon and the code started with 151, I incorrectly assumed the first set of three numbers determined the pokemon the code called. Through sheer dumb coincidence, it turned out I was sorta' right. Mew's index value was 15, so I found changing the first two numbers would change what pokemon you got.
After that, I thought "Well, if one of these controls the pokemon, another value must control where you find them". I guessed that if I changed the next set, 91A, to a different value, it would make them appear on a different map. Once again through dumb luck I was right and somehow managed to figure out how to get the selected pokemon to take squirtle's place in oak's lab.
I remember after finding it I spent all day starting a new game and seeing what starting pokemon I could get with it, until eventually my file erased itself. The wild encounter code was also the first time I encountered Missingno., and when I found it I was amazed and thought I was the first person to find a new pokemon.

Does anyone have pictures of Mana-sama's game collection?
I can only find the ones from game inferno, which are recent, but I remember seeing pictures of his game and watch collection, as well as other weird handheld games, I remember him having a weird handheld Dracula game (not sure if it was actually related to akumajou dracula or not, never saw that one again outside of that picture).
This guy has been collecting video games since the 90s, his collection must be huge. And he's also a fan of weird systems like the 3DO.
I appreciate his eclectic taste for everything from playing Ms Pacman on the Atari Lynx to having a PC Engine LT.
Castlevania is the Rosetta Stone for the music of Mana.

Hell no!
>>4121103
I wonder if they're going to include a fixed version of the controller
>>4121103
I didn't even need to read the list to know it's bullshit. It's some random nobody's thrown together list. The concept is fun to talk about, but there's no reason why that information would leak, and so early.
>5. GoldenEye
>6. Perfect Dark
Pretty sure Microsoft has some control over the Rare brand.
>7. WCW/nWO Revenge
WWE has the rights to all the old WCW stuff and signing off for a re-release of it would do nothing for them.

Licensing fees would make this not worth it.
Any thoughts on the original Phantasy Star games? I'm a lifelong fan of Phantasy Star Online and kind of want to check them out. Are they worth playing and if so what's the best way to play them?
>>4116172
yes and in order
>what's the best way to play them?
Phantasy Star Complete Collection for the Playstation 2 in Japanese.
If it absolutely has to be in English, play 1 via the SMS Power patch with FM sound enabled, for the rest the complete collection is fine.
>>4116179
So you're saying there are no good English releases of the games?
/vr/ rate my 9 year old self's taste

I remember that Ren and Stimpy game. Man it sucked. Super difficult.
>>4109645
Yeah, I beat it once and could never do it again. It has a warm place in my heart, though. Also, it's not nearly as difficult as Arcade's Revenge which almost single-handedly crushed my childhood hopes and dreams.
I see you have Yoshi's Safari, did you have a Super Scope?

A Romancing SaGa 3 Remaster was announced for both Vita and Mobile, said remaster has also been confirmed by Kawazu for getting a western localization.

Do the DS remakes supersede the original Game Boy games or do both versions have pros/cons?
Which should I play first?
>>4057032
The DS remakes should be treated like Minstrel Song overall, they add new mechanics and many core mechanics from the series, tons of new content and many quality of life changes.
I wouldn't say that SaGa 2 DS makes the original not worth playing, I personally prefer the chiptunes though some of the arrangements are very good, especially some new tracks too, the classic aesthetic is also better since both DS remakes are kind of generic 00's anime with the only things left unchanged being some iconic designs like mechs or certain enemies.
I'd say SaGa 3 DS makes the original pointless to play unless you're interested to play it for historical purposes, GB SaGa 3 is barely a SaGa game, Kawazu didn't even work on it at all and it shows, the DS remakes has been handled personally by Kawazu and it is actually a very good game that adds a lot of fun mechanics while also keeping all of the stuff unique to GB SaGa 3 like the special Cyborg/Beastman races and time travel.
As a /vr/ trooper I'd say play both, the GB games are very short, simple and fast, you can easily finish them in a couple of hours, the DS games have more content and more mechanics that you might enjoy more if you've played the originals and see how they build up the gameplay.
I'm gonna shill my game so we get more people playing.
Never played? How about playing the best game mode ever created for racing game(Cops n Robbers)? The game really shines with 6-8 people, thats where the game gets extremely chaotic and really competitive.
1. Download midtown2.iso
2. Mount the iso
3. DO NOT INSTALL THE GAME IN THE SAME PARTITION OF WINDOWS. Check the FAQ.
4. Get the savegame100.rar and drop the folder 'players' into the game's folder.
5. Replace midtown2.exe with the new one from mega's folder.
6.(Optional). Put !!rv5_customhud.ar into the game's folder. It is a modded hud, you can have the default one if you wish.
7. Come join us on multiplayer either through TCP/IP(Direct IP) within the game, GameRanger or Voobly. I'm using DirectIP. So wait someone to host/or host and go play that shit.

>Alright, I have the .iso but my Windows 10 is shit for old games thus slowing the game with deprecated drivers.
Drop the ddraw.dll at the game's folder.
>Why can't i install the game in the same partition where i installed Windows?
The savegame won't work if you do. Why? Well go ask Microsoft not me.

The standard narrative is that Akira Kitamura formed Takeru, made Cocoron, and then Takeru went under, and Kitamura left gaming. That would place his last game at 1991. Instead, he actually went to form Tao Human Systems, where he worked on at least three games:
>Nontan to Issho: Kuru Kuru Puzzle - (director) - 1994
>Virgin Dream - (CG Director) - 1996
>ZeiramZone - (director) - 1996
Sources:
http://gdri.smspower.org/wiki/index.php/Tao_Human_Systems
http://aknote.hatenablog.com/entry/gameplanning.002
Meaning he was in gaming WAY longer than people thought, and may have left around 1998 when Tao Human Systems went under. I'm still researching this guy, so please, if you have any additional information, please share it.

kusoge is like a shit game but it's still enjoyable. if you can't find any enjoyment in it then it's an abject piece of garbage
this looks cool but potential flaws have yet to be discovered, probably will play this later tonight
I haven't seen any translation for them besides 2. Anyone who has played them; how was it compared to 2?

Theyr'e translating the games and releasing them for Steam. Buy them to support more translations.

>The Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) port was developed by Sculptured Software. This particular port has a secret intro (in which a scene between Shao Kahn and Kintaro will take place during the Acclaim logo) and a hidden special team mode. Also in this port is the use of the Super Nintendo's Mode 7, a graphics mode that allows the scaling and rotation of a single background on a scanline-by-scanline basis, during the overhead fall on the Pit II's Stage Fatality. However, the game plays with some slowdown and the sprites look like they have been painted rather than photographed due to the image distortion resulted from the downscaling required to match the console's 256x224 display resolution. The SNES has a larger color palette than most other ports of the game and the music is more downbeat and faded in contrast to the Genesis/Mega Drive's upbeat version. John Tobias favored this version over the Genesis version, and added that "I would go so far as to say that the Super NES version is one of the best arcade-to-home conversions I've seen."
>"I would go so far as to say that the Super NES version is one of the best arcade-to-home conversions I've seen."
Nintendoes what Genedon't.
MK1 on the Genesis is like a high school jock, shitting on the nerdy MK1 on the SNES
MK2 on the Genesis is like that same high school jock now as a middle aged, fat and balding grocery store clerk, while MK2 on the SNES is now a rich alpha.
>"I would go so far as to say that the Super NES version is one of the best arcade-to-home conversions I've seen."
It doesn't matter much of the source game is shit
>>4139542
But we're talking about MK2, not 3
what are the chances of this ever getting a decent fan translation for gba like mother 3 did? is anybody trying that I should keep a look out for?
>For the GBA
Why would you want a cut-off screen and shitter sound just to get a different translation?
>>4138330
cos I like the gba and dont speak japanese
I'm not gonna provide sources but tomato - the guy who hacked mother 3- looked into the EB code and found out they used a proprietary scripting language or some such that was bizarrely extremely complicated. So in other words it's probably never happening.
What are your thoughts on SNES era SMT and Persona 1 and 2 (Innocent Sin and Eternal Punishment)?
they are amazing. I really miss the classic era. For example the newer Personas especially the 4th lost the true SMT identity, and i feel bad for it. I miss the Spell fusion System, the gloomy atmosphere etc. But otherwise i like SMT IV for preserve the Classic era style.
>>4138838
SMTI can be pretty broken but I still enjoy it, I don't recommend it without prior SMT experience.
SMTII is a better game all around but still has it's bullshit, great dungeon crawler though.
Persona 1 is pretty lackluster, it's a decent dungeon crawler but it's hard to recommend.
Persona 2 has a pretty good plot but the combat may turn people off. I don't know if I would say outright bad but it requires dedication, if that makes sense.
If... never ever it seems, looks cool though.
>>4138846
I'd agree with you about 4 if you were talking about the Golden version. I vanilla still had that feeling especially towards the beginning and end section of it, the lack of special events and the feeling of it being very 2008 Japan.
Why MK1 MD was so shitty compared with the SNES version?
That wasn't the case with MK2 and 3
>>4138476
idk, y?
Because hidden blood code. Nintendo knew better than Midway, obviously.
>>4138476
Bump for interest
