Why do people overrate the state of 90's "survival horror" games so much?
Seriously, even the shittiest games (which almost the entire genre is composed of) have nothing but people who would defend them to this very day.
Because what else is there now to take their place? And once upon a time they were very atmospheric and exciting games. Survival horror was a very unique genre.

This is an 18+ site, kiddo.
Question for retro system and game owners: will you hang on to your stuff indefinitely now that these things are getting really unobtainable due to price/scarcity, or will you eventually cash out?
everyone has a price. would I sell my snes if its value went up to $300? no, but I would without hesitation for $700 if things got to that point
I gotta wonder if there's an artificial bubble that's gonna pop
Like Atari 2600s are even older but have virtually no monetary value
Maybe when and if I need the money. Been selling my Magic cards so far, I have less faith in their market holding.
>can't do what a fucking SNES can
>need a fucking cartridge to run good 2D games
Was the Saturn the worst hardware ever made?
in before
>B-B-B-B-B-B-B-BUT-BURNING RANGERS
yeah, one fucking game
then why was it so FUN
>>4138340
Because it was mostly arcade ports. In other words, much of its library was passed-down table scraps with few original titles actually developed for it.
Is this a fun game to play with a casual friend? Is it fun to play alone?
I like the looks of it, the 90's rpg feel and all.
It's probably one of Capcom's weaker beat-em-ups. It's not bad, but I'd rather play Knights of the Round or the D&D games instead.
>>4156201
Doesn't it have some RPG mechanics? It's just plain action?
It's fun, play the arcade version though, also try the D&D games
saturn isn't blue

No, but that's why they called it the Sega Saturn. It's the Sega version of the planet Saturn.
So I just got a PS1, scph-1001. I stuck Mega Man Legends in it, and I'm finding the audio for some of the dialog skips on occasion, and I occasionally run into ridiculously long load times (like 30-45 seconds during area transitions)
The disc is in pretty good condition. Do you think it could be the lens? I've never cleaned one before and I'm worried about screwing with it. I've also read that early models of the PS1 just had cheap lens in general and that they tend to work better with the console upside down. That seems a little silly and I'm worried it might screw with the disc, but if that's the solution then?
Anyone here have experiences with these models? I have a PSOne, but I wanted one of these models for the composite output on the back for lightgun games
>>4155719
these models are known to overheat and warp the rail the laser travels on, the ghetto fix is being performed in the picture you posted, it's not a meme.
>>4155725
So does that mean the rail is already warped and flipping it upside down softens the issue? Or could I find a way to elevate the ps1 in such a way as to not cover the vents?
>>4155730
supposeably flipping the console over makes it ride on the rails differently, the problem is the internal power supply is located very close to the plastic rails.
Opinions on this beatemvania?
>>4155643
Got a little too redundant for me, but my girlfriend at that time played it to completion and really seemed to like it -- was fun playing it with her too
>>4155643
Surely you mean Beltvania.
Good weekend rent, probably only really worth it for co-op though. The stats system's unnecessarily deep iirc; you can just go at it, buy whatever to eat and get a couple of special tech books and beat the game easily anyway
>>4155643
Underground is better desu.
So I'm trying to use a different mask for Splatterhouse 2. I was using an IPS to change the mask, but in doing so, the graphics in the game suffers because of it (as seen in this screen shot). Can anyone help me with this problem? I was thinking someone could upload the rom & link it here, with the mask mod & the graphics problem fixed.
>>4155260
>gens
>stretched to widescreen
OH GOD, STOP.
>>4155267
I play all my games on my 42 inch HDTV. Don't like it? Oh well, I don't give a shit.
>>4155260
You can't take off the mask, Rick.
I've played this when it came out and it still haunts me. Everything from the class system, to the choices, to recruiting all the hidden characters and creatures.
I've searched for something to fill that hole and the only thing that came close is Valkyria Chronicles and Battle of Wesnoth.
I still long to play it and wished they made a sequel.
>>4154559
that's for using that spoilerific image to show your love you fucking turd
>>4154674
Did you ever, and I mean EVER consider just talking to people instead of assuming you know what's going on in someone else's life? Also you sound like you're tired and need a rest, or a contrarian on their pedestal.
Game title?
You guys make it sound like there's piece in my life that I didn't know I needed and this is it.
>buy used game
>it has a save on there
>play that shit
awhhhh yea boi
>worked at >fucking gamestop in the 90's
>get a copy of Final Fantasy VII
>play it in a back room, name Cloud "SEPHIROTH KILLS"
>name Tifa "AERIS IN THE"
>name Barret "FORGOTTEN CAPITAL"
>save the game and leave it at this point
>mfw some neckbeard buys it and gushes about how he can't wait to play it
>>4154537
joke's on you, you can't save a game on a disc so they wouldn't have seen it
Any good games on this system? Emulators?
>>4153772
It's all porn visual novels and erotic dungeon crawlers. Give it up, nothing to see here.
PLAY RUSTY AND NIGHT SLAVE BRA
No seriously, play them it's pretty decent.
>>4153781
How do I play it?
Did anyone own one of these when they were younger and it was still new?
>>4153705
LOL that pos cost $900 and they only released only subpar fighters on it. Fools and their money.
>>4153707
Not wanting to waste thousands of dollars to play 4-dimensional games with life-sized graphics
Friend of mine had one. Played a lot of Samurai Shodown at his place.
>be me
>love triple triad. rapidly get good at it
>play it 10000 times
>manage to get like 95% of the possible rare cards in disc 1 just from playing so much. even learn elemental and same rule meta
>by this time my GFs have most skills unlocked too
>do some research. oh..is that so
>spongebob later that day
>my party has autohaste, +40/60% str, 90 triples on str, squall has fucking lionheart, and i still have like 20 cards i can wreck any AI with in triple triad
>keep squall low hp rest of game and watch him omnislash over and over for 2k dmg per hit
>nice game u guys got
cool game i guess
>>4153625
Best one on the PlayStation
>>4153625
>It's a Final Fantasy game that breaks real easy if you exploit it.
They're all like that, kinda sad.
Sound fun to me.
You now remember Pit Fighter.

Go back to /v/?
why isnt the rest of the 6th gen systems (xbox, ps2, gamecube, and gba) allowed for discussion on /vr/ ? the nintendo switch has already been released so we are on 9th gen now.
Because the rules ever say that we'll allow more generations, as new generations keep coming. It just says that DC is allowed, but in fact, DC is allowed by default because it's a system released in 1998 (1999 in the west), which fits the board's rules criteria.
/v2k/ is the solution you're looking for.
>>4153192
inb4 banned for not retro
>>4153195
do you really think there will be no room for Comfy SNES Music threads or CRT shitposting if we allowed in the PS2 and Xbox?
This board is painfully slow as it is. Splitting the retrogame userbase further is unjustifiable.
