how do they make the patty taste so good? it's really a mystery to me. every other hamburger patty I tasted feels flavourless, Feels like it's just a filler while the bread, cheese and sauce do all the work.

Which?

PS1 and SS are both cool, have fun

/thread
>>
If you're emulating, PS1 version is still the best because it has the most accurate emulators.
>>
PS1. Saturn port's extras don't make up for its technical failures.

Try SoTN, it's fairly quick. Even more so if you go for the bad end.

This game was seriously love at first sight. Hands down my favorite video game ever, even considering how the inverted castle felt.

Is Virtua Fighter 2 (Mega Drive) a good 2D fighting game?
27 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
It's more alright than good, but its definitely not bad.
>>
>>4159231
It's kind of like Toshinden on the Gameboy, except it has much better competition on the platform, so it doesn't come off as good (GB version of Toshinden was probably the best 2d fighter on the system).
>>
>>4159231
It plays like total shit and doesn't feel like Virtua Fighter at all.

5 is also an easier one, but it's less stupid than 4.

3 is IMO the hardest one due to the hugelong final mission.

What is /vr/'s take on these three failed fifth generation consoles? 3DO is the only one that got any major support (over 200 games) while the 32X and Jaguar combined barely had 100.

How do these consoles compare to one another in terms of power?

I often thought of the Jaguar as the weakest, but comparing the Doom ports on these three consoles, Jaguar had by far the best port.

3DO's best technical achievement was Need for Speed, which almost looks like a PS1 game (Jaguar and 32X have nothing that looks as great as that title in terms of polygonal games).

32X technically could push a lot more polygons than the 3DO but the only two games we got that were polygonal were Virtua Fighter and Virtua Racing.

What does /vr/ think in terms of these consoles in terms of library and their power relative to one another?

>>
what time zone are we working within here?

32X has the others beat in terms of longevity. mega drives are dirt cheap and the thing just slots on top, provided you have the right wires.
3DOs are hard to get hold of.
jaguars regularly self-destruct.

if you're looking at it through contemporary eyes, the 32x is the only one people are ever going to have any luck finding.
>>
32X wasn't a console and 3DO was miles better than the other two.
>>
>>4158750
Two game stores near me both had Jaguars recently.

Also I see like 5 listings for 3DO consoles on eBay right now. Few things are truly hard to find in the age of the internet.

I'm at work, so I can't take photos and the prices are based on memory. And yeah, I know I could've gotten better deals online, but I'm an impulsive faggot. My friend managed to somehow buy only one shirt and Megaman 8.

Metroid NES $25 (later saw it at another booth for 16, felt like a moron)
Castlevania NES for like, 20.
Adventures of Lolo NES, like 20, my friend beat it for the first time his weekend
Adventures of Lolo 2, 30 bucks
Rygar, 8 bucks (friend recommended it)
6 NES games for 20 (Totally Rad, Wizards and Warriors, Ironsword, Solstice, Mickey's Mousecapade and some other game, fuck)
5 dollars of Marble Madness NES
The Smurf's Nightmare GBC for 8 bucks
Super Mario World 20 bucks
Super Mario All-Stars 20 bucks
FF: Mystic Quest with Manual and Map 15 bucks
Super Smash Bros 40 bucks (the game looks pristine except that "Clay" wrote his name on it)
Tonic Trouble 8 bucks
Q*Bert PS1 for like 8 bucks

I think that's it.
>>
>>4158748
I suppose that's not TOO bad all-in-all. That 6/20 deal you got was pretty nice really and your buddy was right to recommend Rygar that was a favorite of mine back in the day. It's mindblowing that Super Mario World fetches $20 I should have bought a hundred copies back in the day.

Why has the community for the Quake games seemingly driveled up and died while the community for Doom has thrived? During the 90s and early 2000s Quake was THE place to be for modding, but with the death of Planet Quake they barely have a central community hub while Doom has doomworld these days.
27 posts and 3 images submitted.
>>
Probably because you don't follow Quake communities such as Tastyspleen or other fansites like quaddicted.
>>
Doom offers a unique 3D map, 2D enemies system that no modern game copies even though it was very common after Doom came out. It's balanced to damn near perfection and is addictive to play because of it. It's the Tetris of FPS games.

Quake on the other hand is an early 3D shooter that has unsurprisingly been surpassed since then and doesn't hold up as well. It's not that anything in Quake is bad, it's just brown and pretty generic overall.
>>
>>4158662
Quake has new released coming out almost weekly. Just get in the loop.

http://www.celephais.net/board/forum.php

A 15 map pack came out yesterday (map jam9), and a 17 map episode not long before that (retrojam?)

http://www.celephais.net/board/forum.php
https://www.quaddicted.com/

Its a smaller community than doom, but the quality is much higher imo.

What were the stand out titles?
>>
I can't wait until /vr/ considers the Jaguar as an "underrated console".

Do you play the Japanese or North American version of games. I'm thinking of only playing the JP version of every game made in Japan (save for text-heavy games) since I've come to realize that the games we get are localizations that tamper with the developers' original vision.
23 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
Generally Japanese, unless the NA localization wasn't censored. Some games were fortunately spared from censorship policies, but that largely depends on the type of content that was in the original release.

Arbitrary changes bother me as well, like recoloring sprites or replacing things common in Japanese culture with their American "counterparts." I guess I can tolerate that to a degree, but not when the context of the game no longer makes any sense. (e.g. heavily white-washed characters in a Japanese historical setting)
>>
Depends. I play Japanese SFC and N64 games, but PAL and American for everything else.
>>
>>4158163

This is the most haha game ever made. Just wait until you see the fetish levels.

Whats your favourite retro podcast?

I've been listening to Retro Asylum and The Amigos lately, both are cozy and just focus on vidya. Amigos are bad at games but if they can't finish a game they will at least watch a long play.

Retronaughts cause I've been following and reading Toasty Frog since before he was even at 1up and I like him.

Yet you still don't know it's RetroNAUTS. Anyway there are no good retro podcasts. They're all hosted by insufferable numale faggots. I would grit my teeth and bear it for Retronauts but I can't fucking stand Bob's loser friends Chris and Henry so I've since unsubscribed.

Yeah, spelling, meh. It's not for everyone, but I enjoy it and the hosts, but mostly Jeremy. Also I miss the 1up podcasts in general, it's the one that's survived and stayed mostly the same.

Would Zero had gone berserk if he was found first instead of X, or rather had a Reploid not found him? It seems like he only attacked the group because they were detected to be a creation of Dr. Light (Or based on one in the case of a reploid), so is it possible he'd have been passive/inert without such a target? Was he violent due to his regular programming, or just because a response to "enemies?"

What would Megaman X have looked like had the world been populated with Reploids created using Zero as a base?
10 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
He WAS found first by Sigma and infected him with whatever virus.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nPlTvJZG2J8
>>
>>4157779
That's what I'm getting at though. Sigma found him, but what if Dr. Cain had found him prior to X? Cain can't be infected by the virus, and creating reploids from Zero would either render the virus inert (Since it's a natural part of Zero's programming) or allow Cain to create a Reploid that isn't affected by the virus.

Also, wasn't Sigma, being a Reploid, based on X's design like all the others?

That's a kickass story for a spinoff
