>Uri Gellar sues Nintendo over Kadabra and his likeness
>GF has to come up with something
>No Kadabra cards printed
>Abra is too weak, Alakazam can't be played
>New series Ultra evolves Abra to Alakazam
>Next series just turns Alakazam into a basic
So how do we go about getting Kadabra back into the TCG?
Well getting rid of Kadabra would mess up the whole lineup besides Kadabra is still in the games. The anime was impacted too, there hasn't been a Kadabra episode since AG
I think Uri Geller is a copyright troll and ignoring him would be best
If anything this whole fiasco serves as a funny time capsule of Pokemania. Geller sought to capitalize on it but for some reason didn't have the psychic foresight to see that the card game would take a drastic backseat to the games and cartoons.
They have never had another Porygon episode either. I feel like a lot of Gen1 pokemon get this treatment
People would be suing to get rid of pokemon that offend them like Jynx. I bet if they got rid of Kadabra, Jynx would be the very next one to go
No, some courts handle copyright in different ways. Uri Geller probably took Nintendo to a Texas or Arizona court for the lawsuit. Those states are notorious for allowing copyright trolls to sue whoever they want
>tfw Jynx didn't get an evo in Gen 4 along with Magmar and Electabuzz
well, considering how ugly magmortar is that was probably something good, but
>tfw jynx will never get a mega
he's always been one of my favourite pokemon
They just want to distance themselves from controversy. As soon as someone raises a stink about a pokemon, GF never touches it again
Its an interesting topic, what mons do you think GameFreak may want to get rid off?
Kadabra and Jynx are obvious. There's also the meme that GF wants to get rid of Raichu.
I'd say Porygon too, but they gave it 2 evolutions.
Abra is named Casey in Japan.
Kadabra is named Yungerer in Japan
Alakazam is named Foodin in Japan
all corruptions of famous magicians names
If Edgar Cayce and Jean Robert-Hoodin were still alive they would have sued Nintendo too.
Nobody knows. They've never even acknowledged it, even though it's been around for almost 10 years. It seems a bit too convenient that it only affects a 'controversial' pokemon, and the fact it has never been fixed, even between generations means there's probably something going on behind the scenes.
Lopunnuy due to sexualization
congrats you got the joke
Yeah, you could be right. I've always taken it as part of a trio with electabuzz/magmar mostly because they are the only pokemon that learn the elemental punch move of their type by level up in gen 1
(well, hitmonchan learns the elemental punches too, but it makes sense for it to do so)
>There's also the meme that GF wants to get rid of Raichu
It wouldn't surprise me if that was true. Raichu is literally the only thing that keeps them from shoving Pikachu even harder down our throats.
I wouldn't be surprised at all if we got a mega pikachu in the next gen, with some bullshit excuse about some pokemon not needing to be fully evolved to unleash their hidden potential!!!!
>tfw Pikachu gets a Mega before Raichu
Hopefully, they'll see it as a challenge for Ash's Pikachu. Maybe Pikachu will be put up against a Mega Raichu, only to beat it with Pikachu and Ash's superior bonds!
I actually don't know about that. Seems like Kadabra was based directly on Geller.
Kadabra's Japanese name is ユンゲラー
Uri Geller's name written in Japanese according to wikipedia is ユリゲラー
They're very similar. As another anon pointed out, Abra and Alakazam's Japanese names are both also based on famous magicians, both of whom are dead. So it seems like Nintendo/Game Freak's mistake was picking a living magician to base Kadabra off of.
Dedenne was the beginning.
Before you know it, your little vermin fairy will be evolving into raichu
holyfuck i just read about this faggot Geller and it seems he's some lawsuit-happy asshat who sues anything that mentions his name.
you better delete this thread if you don't have anough money, OP.
They weren't actually based on them. The names were just homages/references to them.
Hitmonlee's japanese name is a reference to a kickboxer that is still alive and he hasn't pulled any shit like uri geller.
The kickboxer is Japanese. Uri Geller is...
Probably not enough exposure in the anime is what I would guess and the rumor of sprite alterations in the English games. I only remember two Lopunny episodes and the short trailer for ORAS
Lopunny also debuted long after the original fad of pokemon died.
All the controversy was when the anime was a huge fad and involves the original 151 pokemon like Jynx, Kadabra or Porygon. Nothing after the first gen ever received that much backlash again.
