Not shitting on Gen I, but I just could never get into it with all the glitches and retarded movesets. I mean, seriously, a fast Pokemon with Bind can make them unable to do anything ever? Gyarados can't use one of its STABs? Alakazam can instantly rape anything? There's just too many things wrong with it.

I find it hard to rank the games, in all honesty, because they are all decent, but 1 was a glitchy mess (not that I didn't enjoy most of them) and Fire Red and Leaf Green were... Uninspired, not doing much to improve my opinion of it. 3 has been my favourite since it first came out, and I love ORAS - I still can't express enough how much R/S/E engaged me with all the awesome locations, and the neat legendary hunt.

I think gen 5 is very nicely polished and I liked having an all new dex. Some of the designs are a little weak but I think people forget how great some of the designs are too (Chandelure, Darmanitan, Scolipede...). I also liked the story well enough and the rivals/friends were likable.

Gen 2 is kind of purely for nostalgia, but you can't deny how awesome it was as a kid to step into Kanto and eventually fight Red. (Gold was my first game but I started playing Blue before I got to Kanto in Gold and I was so hype when I realized I could travel there.)

Gen 6 has great graphics and the first half of the game is great but then it just...tapers off and the pacing starts getting weird. Also after gen 5, the story and rivals/friends were a real let down. Gen 1 was great since it's the start, but it's got some wonky mechanics that have since been fixed well.

Gen 3 was kind of underwhelming and yeah, too much water. Gen 4 was slow, awkward, and had awkward pokemon designs, and made me worry I was outgrowing pokemon (until gen 5 reignited my passion). Best spin off games were gen 4 though.

3. I don't think that there are worst gen per se. Of course all of them have flaws, some more noticeable than others, but all of them have their pros too. This said, I don't know why I like Pokémon that much, I think that the games are pretty mediocre, and wasted potential overall. Maybe it's the concept in itself. i know this is b8, but fuck you — my opinions are my own, and I include remakes and third versions in making my judgement.

Yellow? fucking trash. Crystal? Absolutely incredible, at the time it was as if this was as good as it could get. Gen 3 was subpar, the remakes were incredible, but looking back Emerald couldn't surpass Crystal, it wasn't an improvement — overall this whole gen was a rehash. Gen 4 had incredible remakes, HGSS are some of my favourite titles, and a 10/10 third version when we go back in time with Celebi and see Giovanni in the mountains, Giratina and the distortion world —this gen raised the bar. Gen 5 was incredibly fresh, it felt great to explore a new region with ONLY new pokemon, even if they were all silly nods and winks to existing mons. On top of this, the games actually got sequels — this made a big difference, for the first time it was as if they'd actually released two sets of finished games instead two rushed clones, and a third improvement. The issue with gen 5 was the hints of what was to come in gen 6. Gen 6, there is no defending you — the hand holding — the dialogue — the awful remakes — the everything you are made of — it is a sad day for this franchise, gen 6, and you are the shaman who summoned its dawn.

Granted, it took me a while to pass Viridian City as I got the English version of Red and English wasn't my native tongue, so I didn't know how to save nor how to get the old man out of the way. I didn't like D/P or R/S/E, but I fucking loved HG/SS and Pt was okay. 3 gets my lowest score because I didn't like any of the mainline games that gen despite FR/LG being pretty good. And 5 and 6 rank highly because of their overall polish and introduction of features I can't live without.

Never played VI, I assume the handholding got even worse.

it looks like about 80% or maybe more played gen 1 first, even those who were infants or not even born yet when it was released.

Despite all this gen 1 is one of the most popular choices for last place in the rankings.

To be fair, it's not exactly clear on what basis the generations are judged. In that case, I would hope that gen1 doesn't win over other generations that are essentially gen1 + more stuff. Having gen1 first is probably a result of nostalgia, a particular liking for the dex or a general liking for simplicity.
