Anyone who thinks Reddit hasn't tainted this place is a moron.
I've been here since about 2011 or so, /vp/'s always had underage, but it never got to the point where it was intolerable until around the X/Y leaks. Wottergate was fun, but it's been a general downward slope after that.

With the increase in moderation and all the people who made fun OC leaving, /vp/'s in a rut of constant genwars. Not to mention anything that happens or gets made here will be reposted on Tumblr and Reddit within the hour.

Really? I've never hung out at those threads, but I remember some nice people doing giveaways, I never knew they got that much attention.

The point I was trying to make is that /vp/'s almost entirely lost it's 'board culture' save for a few wayward /tr/ainers who make and post in threads like these.
If someone started up the Magnemite trading shenanigans, I'd join in.

Not a fucking Cryogonal's chance in hell that they were from 4chan. You're right, the leaks probably brought in a fair amount of Redditors and whatnot. But undesirables can never keep their fucking mouths shut, so when they yap about getting free shit, they bring heaps of even more kids. The cycle repeats with each wave reaching to more surface dwellers, each more cancerous than the last.

There's a lot of things that led to /vp/ becoming toxic. When one cause is pointed out, everyone bristles and says "no, it wasn't THAT, it was THIS" and it never goes anywhere. We're never going to find the one magic root of everything.

The reason it's STAYING shit is more important. It's salted ground. No one wants to make new oc because it'll either be denounced as autism, or stolen and plastered on Reddit. And maybe even more importantly, who would even WANT to make something good for a shithole like this? The old sense of community is dead. We're no longer a bunch of nerdy faggots who banded together in this niche to enjoy a mutual hobby. Now it's every shitposter for himself.

But it seems to be getting noticeably better lately and I'm excited. I might even start making oc again.

I always see "make /vp/ a red board, gib porn" as a solution but let me tell you what's what. Having porn on the board was a good surface dweller deterrent, yes. But not all /vp/ natives want to see porn all the time. It worked best when there was one dedicated porn thread, kept spoilered. That doesn't really keep keep the normies away, but it does prevent porn raids. Still, it's against the rules. It worked while there was no moderation, but there's no place for a sanctioned porn general now.
