What I don't understand is why does it hurt to make Ash win at least once? They stated in the anime that there's another league after the Pokemon League.
They could at the least have him lose in the Champion's League. He would still go on to his next adventure regardless of the outcome.

They actually are. Once they create an "iconic" character they are terrified of changing it and then nips say "wtf what happened to _____ DROPPED" which actually happens quite a lot.
