Yes. I felt the exact same way about D/P. Platinum improved a lot of little things down to your opponent's team and of course added enough features for me to keep playing. It's still Sinnoh meaning it still has its shitty cross-gen evo, with almost no new fire types too, filled dex but nothing can be perfect I guess.

Someone had gifted me Diamond for one of my birthday, barely touched Diamond and could barely get through it when I played it, I spent way more time playing FireRed/LeafGreen/Sapphire than Diamond so I didn't get to get use to the Pokemon and the 4th gen mechanics,but I still put 400 hrs into HeartGold. I didn't bother getting gen V because I really didn't like the new design, the last gen Pokemon design that I really like are from 3rd gen.

Personally, I hated Diamond. It's the only Pokemon game that I've never beaten, because I dropped it in disgust by the 6th or 7th gym. Couldn't even bring myself to finish it.

Platinum is better, but that's only because D/P are generally agreed to be the worst games in the series. Platinum as a Pokemon game it's still lackluster overall since Sinnoh as a region requires a copious amount of HM usage and still suffers from terrible design choices like Defog. Lastly, the 'main draw', the Distortion World, feels like an empty, extended cutscene.

I don't personally like saying HG/SS are in gen 4 because they're leagues better than D/P/Pt. GF must've had a change in staff if they wen't from making the worst games in the series to the remakes that still hold up today.

As for people saying it's good, well, I think it's a mix of the phenomenon that people will hype up the games they think are getting remakes next, as well as the fact that there's a much larger number of underage on /vp/ these days, D/P are or are near 10 years old so these kids started on it and therefore think it's good.

Anyway, just drop Pearl, it's not worth it.

Don't lie now, the game speed is still abysmally slow if there was an improvement it was so incredibly small only the trained eye would notice outside of the surf speed.
On top of that for some reason Hearthome now makes the game drop a few frames and "saving a lot of data" takes nearly twice as long with nearly double the amount of things that can trigger it.

That's exactly what outdated means anon.
That aside a lot of the mechanics, particularly in GSC, took years to refine. If I remember right one of the Apricorn balls did nothing due to a glitch.

There's only so much atmosphere can do for a game when the gameplay needs major work.

If that's the case, every game that isn't ORAS goes in outdated by default. If the game can still be played and enjoyed to some extent today, and another game doesn't do what that game does exactly better, it's not really outdated (outside of mechanically).
Mechanically, the newer games have newer mechanics, but there was still a charm in the older games that is different from what's in the new ones. There is still something offered by the old games that the new games can't offer in the same way, and in that sense they aren't fully outdated.
They should also be average so that they're a standard with which to compare later games, if you're worse than the first two games you fucked up.

The Moon Ball did nothing because it used the Gen 1 item slot for Moon Stone, which is a Burn Heal in Gen 2, and obviously no Pokémon evolve via Burn Heal.

The Fast Ball and Love Ball also didn't work right. The Fast Ball was meant to check if a Pokémon was part of the first three speed tiers, but instead it only checked the first three Pokémon of the first speed tier. The Love Ball was supposed to be better at catching Pokémon of the opposite gender but instead was better at catching Pokémon of the same gender, how progressive.

Platinum is worth playing, but it can be really slow or painful at times, even for a pokemon game. The foggy sections are cancer, especially if you don't have a defogger at all, for example.
That said, difficulty/plot/postgame wise it is one of the strongest pokemon games out there. Fixes most of the issues of DP.

I like your BW/BW2 good tier distribution as well, I think they could go either way. "God Tier" has some connotations that are better avoided so I went with "best" and put the commonly-agreed best games there. I was sorely tempted to throw XY in a shit tier like you did but I wanted to make it a positive chart.
