>Barely get through it, stop playing it
>Was originally led to believe it was one of the worst generations
>Now people say it's one of the best
Am I missing something here? Is Platinum worth playing? Because I see a lot of people rank it up really high nowadays.
Yes. I felt the exact same way about D/P. Platinum improved a lot of little things down to your opponent's team and of course added enough features for me to keep playing. It's still Sinnoh meaning it still has its shitty cross-gen evo, with almost no new fire types too, filled dex but nothing can be perfect I guess.
Someone had gifted me Diamond for one of my birthday, barely touched Diamond and could barely get through it when I played it, I spent way more time playing FireRed/LeafGreen/Sapphire than Diamond so I didn't get to get use to the Pokemon and the 4th gen mechanics, but I still put 400 hrs into HeartGold. I didn't bother getting gen V because I really didn't like the new design, the last gen Pokemon design that I really like are from 3rd gen.
When the games came out, I hated the designs, the story, even the berét.
Then I played platinum, and I fucking loved it. Fire red/leaf green, emerald, HG/SS, and platinum are the best in the series imo.
Different people have different opinions?
Personally, I hated Diamond. It's the only Pokemon game that I've never beaten, because I dropped it in disgust by the 6th or 7th gym. Couldn't even bring myself to finish it.
Platinum is better, but that's only because D/P are generally agreed to be the worst games in the series. Platinum as a Pokemon game it's still lackluster overall since Sinnoh as a region requires a copious amount of HM usage and still suffers from terrible design choices like Defog. Lastly, the 'main draw', the Distortion World, feels like an empty, extended cutscene.
I don't personally like saying HG/SS are in gen 4 because they're leagues better than D/P/Pt. GF must've had a change in staff if they wen't from making the worst games in the series to the remakes that still hold up today.
As for people saying it's good, well, I think it's a mix of the phenomenon that people will hype up the games they think are getting remakes next, as well as the fact that there's a much larger number of underage on /vp/ these days, D/P are or are near 10 years old so these kids started on it and therefore think it's good.
Anyway, just drop Pearl, it's not worth it.
Tell us what you don't like about Pearl and we'll tell you if Platinum fixed it. If it's the game speed: Platinum is faster, thankfully, though still not as streamlined as the newest gens. If it's pokemon distribution, Platinum fixed some of it but is still imperfect. If it's Sinnoh in general, and that annoying as hell HM usage, you won't like Platinum either.
Fuck you man Chihuahuas are great if you don't treat them like a purse dog.
>find copy of Diamond in old games box
>based DS Lite has charge still
>boxes and boxes of DNS trickery /vp/ GTS giveaways of hackmons, eventmons, and legal sets for random pokemon
>mfw these things are reviled on today's /vp/
Fuck you nigger.
>main draw is distortion world
>Not knowing A Team and B Team
>HGSS aren't gen 4
>Thinking sinnohfetuses are a force on /vp/
Platinum, along with BW2 and HGSS, have been agreed to be the best Pokemon games on /vp/ for YEARS.
>Why else would GF release Gen 5 on the same platform?
Because they didn't want to move on to 3DS yet. The whole reason they made BW2 instead of Gray was because Nintendo stepped in and said "if you're going to make this on DS it can't just be a regular third version, otherwise get working on the 3DS already."
They're reviled because they attracted Reddit and other undesirables. In Gen 4 and part of Gen 5 you had the heaps and heaps of porn to keep them away, now there's no barrier (I am not suggesting bringing back the porn) and they all lined up to get free shit. Some of them still haven't left even though there are no more giveaways.
>lol that game sucks go play hgss/platinum/emerald
>Pokemon X with a copy paste 5 hour Battle Frontier slapped on it
>GEN 6 IS SAVED
>Only mainline game I've ever played is Diamond
What am I missing out on
I'm actually replaying Pearl now because
I accidentally threw out / lost my copy of Platinum when I was movinga few years ago
Why are you even here? Start playing games, man.
>Is Platinum worth playing?
Eh, truthfully it's an improvement but not a significant one the only issue they really ironed or is the lack of fire types. Everything else is still there but with a new coat of paint. The distortion world is a whole bunch of missed potential too.
Don't lie now, the game speed is still abysmally slow if there was an improvement it was so incredibly small only the trained eye would notice outside of the surf speed.
On top of that for some reason Hearthome now makes the game drop a few frames and "saving a lot of data" takes nearly twice as long with nearly double the amount of things that can trigger it.
>XY to average
>Platinum down to High
>BW2 up to great
>Crystal up to high or good
>Yellow to average or RB to average.
Just because the game isn't up to the latest mechanics doesn't mean it's outdated, RBY and GSC did some things very well compared to later gens and should be played for atmosphere alone at least.
That being said, outdated tier should be renamed to "outdone", since everything in it is now just the incomplete versions of already mentioned games.
>Just because the game isn't up to the latest mechanics doesn't mean it's outdated, RBY and GSC did some things very well compared to later gens and should be played for atmosphere alone at least.
That's exactly what outdated means anon.
That aside a lot of the mechanics, particularly in GSC, took years to refine. If I remember right one of the Apricorn balls did nothing due to a glitch.
There's only so much atmosphere can do for a game when the gameplay needs major work.
If that's the case, every game that isn't ORAS goes in outdated by default. If the game can still be played and enjoyed to some extent today, and another game doesn't do what that game does exactly better, it's not really outdated (outside of mechanically).
Mechanically, the newer games have newer mechanics, but there was still a charm in the older games that is different from what's in the new ones. There is still something offered by the old games that the new games can't offer in the same way, and in that sense they aren't fully outdated.
They should also be average so that they're a standard with which to compare later games, if you're worse than the first two games you fucked up.
Crystal and RB each have nearly everything included in their remakes, which is why I put them in Outdated. You could argue about Yellow but I don't consider the three starters + following Pikachu to be a big enough incentive to put it outside of Outdated.
The Moon Ball did nothing because it used the Gen 1 item slot for Moon Stone, which is a Burn Heal in Gen 2, and obviously no Pokémon evolve via Burn Heal.
The Fast Ball and Love Ball also didn't work right. The Fast Ball was meant to check if a Pokémon was part of the first three speed tiers, but instead it only checked the first three Pokémon of the first speed tier. The Love Ball was supposed to be better at catching Pokémon of the opposite gender but instead was better at catching Pokémon of the same gender, how progressive.
>any dog bred for appearance rather than temperament
Enjoy the over-aggressiveness and abundance of health issues that will rob you of many years with your dog, I guess?
Loved Diamond when it came out but I can't go back to those slow fucking no animation battles. I just hope anyone who worked on ORAS stays the fuck away from the inevitable remakes next gen.
Platinum is worth playing, but it can be really slow or painful at times, even for a pokemon game. The foggy sections are cancer, especially if you don't have a defogger at all, for example.
That said, difficulty/plot/postgame wise it is one of the strongest pokemon games out there. Fixes most of the issues of DP.
>mfw I actually enjoy doing the foggy route without a Defogger
Makes me feel like a badass for planning ahead with Shock Wave/Swift
Respectable; I actually used to have BW2 in God Tier but moved it down because I thought there were too many in God Tier, then I made "Good Tier" between High and Average to spread things out more.
>bought a labrador a long time ago, love her to bits
She's actually been feeling better than she has in the past and I know she's old by now but I feel bad about it on her bad days.
I like your BW/BW2 good tier distribution as well, I think they could go either way. "God Tier" has some connotations that are better avoided so I went with "best" and put the commonly-agreed best games there. I was sorely tempted to throw XY in a shit tier like you did but I wanted to make it a positive chart. I almost want RBYGSC to have their own "Nostalgia/Novelty Tier" but I wanted to cut down on the number of different tiers for simplicity's sake.
