If Z/ZX/ZY/Whatever doesn't end up being a sequel then it might end up being another DP/Pt where the third version completely shits on the originals and makes them feel almost unplayable in comparison.

If you wanna play ORAS for the game, then play one of the popular difficulty hacks instead.

If you wanna play a Pokemon game to trade, battle, dick around, etc, then play XY. You don't miss out on much, just a few mega evolutions and then some in exchange for a better game.

Frankly, I bought neither, bought PSMD, played Rutile Ruby, and plan to buy Z or whatever it is later.

you know, I'm not a genwunner and I despise r/b/y, but I do have to admit, I did like it when you fight through a dungeon and work to find where legendaries were.

flying into a bunch of hoopa rings and learning the requirements for each legendary is boring.

but, I motherfucking reiterate: play. the. difficulty. hacks. you will not like ripping through every trainer in the game as if they were wet paper, trust me. plus, you can pirate it that way and GF honestly deserves no money for ORAS, even though it did have its perks
