I for one actually support the Fennekin and Oshawott shipping, and greatly support the Braixen and Dewott shipping. They're both my favorite starters from their respective regions and the underdogs of their groups because compared to their counterparts, they just aren't seen as useful as them competitively. Plus they've both been handed the shortest end of the stick by Gamefreak hidden ability wise. Magician and Shell Armor just aren't the best abilities those two can have, but even still, I love them both the same. However, I can only support the Fennekin/Oshawott and Braixen/Dewott shipping if they're female and male respectively. Try as I might, I just can't imagine Osha or Dewott as female, and imagining Fennekin and Braixen as male is difficult, but not impossible, mostly because of the fanart. In terms of female shipping, Fennekin/Snivy win hands down. I just can't imagine a cuter Fem ship. And the thought of Braixen and Servine together makes me feel really nice and cozy. These are just my own thoughts and opinions on the matter, not to be taken to heart or as offensive. Just words from a fellow drawfriend.

Actually, I've gone through a number of starters (and one partner) before settling on these. Riolu stops learning moves at Lv. 15, Froakie's bonus moves and stat spread (and hell, even its level-up moves) are contradictory, and Chimchar just is kinda meh since Flame Wheel or Ember are its best moves and it's stuck with Fake Out for range. The level-ups don't exactly lend itself to going physical or special, and while I like it, it's just painful to use and roid.

My dog was usually very patient with me when I was still learning, and I was able to flex and mess with his limbs a bit to get a good grasp on how they behaved. I don't know how patient your pets are, but they can be great models to start with, since they're much more cooperative than creatures found in the wild.
