It's a female, unfortunately in the original pokemon before all the spin offs like johto and such they had not added added the whole female having a different tail thing.

So the series doesn't make much sense in that way but everything after the original 151 pokemon is just a spin off series anyway.

1. Dawn's Buneary had a crush on him.
2. Evil Togepi's Attract worked on him, Piplup, Croagunk, and Meowth. Since Meowth is a male, this means that the Togepi is female, and that the other three are also male.
3. In a BW episode, Pikachu was disguised as a female by putting a piece of paper on his tail.

Ash's Pikachu is the series mascot. If there was any contention about its gender, they wouldn't add the female tail in the first place. If anything they did it to confirm that it's male.

I'm a dubfag and I can agree with you there, actually, most dub musical numbers are shit compared to subbed ones. In Pokémon's case I'm not sure if it would affect me enough to watch the subbed; doesn't the sub even use Jap names for Pokémon instead of their English ones?

Not him by the way, I stopped watching the Ashnime years and years ago when I realized as a kid he was just repeating the same cycle over and over and he'd never actually win.

Well that would explain why people are so abhorrent, I stopped watching shortly after 4kids got booted, I think I watched the Frontier season and a bit of Sinnoh before dropping it for a while, then checked out the Sinnoh League when it got there, then watched the first episodes of Unova and never went back.

I also noticed, even as a kid, that the quality of English openings sunk like a stone as soon as 4kids got canned. (I didn't specifically know the dub studios changed, but I did notice every single character having a different voice at about the same time said opening quality sank.)

I still can't stand female Jap VAs, though, they hurt my ears. If I watched the Ashnime again it'd be a toss-up on whether I'd watch dub or sub.
