I haven't played Pokemon since Gen 3. Should I emulate the DS games, or buy a 3DS to play the newer games + DS games?
buy a new new 3ds get the games and join the experience, family
ignore the gen 6 hate meme
As someone who has played the new games, I highly recommend actually getting a 3DS so you can play the old and new games. They added a lot since Gen 3, some great, some not. But it's worth it in my opinion.

>New New 3DS
like the one that plays Monster Hunter better or something? I was just thinking of a 2DS as all I want is Pokemon, Persona Q, and Smash.
>>24976949
yeah that was kind of a joke
get a 2ds, it's all i have and it works just fine.
>>24976951
I'm planning on picking one up myself from Amazon. It's even coming with a free game.
>>24976942
>ignore the gen 6 hate meme
ignore the "gen 6 is good" meme
OP, i'd suggest you wait until this gen's last game comes out and just emulating the old games until then.
>>24976936
Emulate the DS Games and Buy current Pokémon Games.
>>24976951
>doesn't bend
you better have some big pockets
>>24977014
Now you know OP isn't a sperg enough to play that shit in public.
Right?
>>24977014
OP here, I wouldn't take it anywhere. I've never brought a portable console to anywhere besides my PSP to play Loco Roco, that's it.
>>24977028
Not even to get an event 'mon?
>>24977039
No.
>>24976936
>Get 3DS
>Get ORAS (has the most new features etc among Gen 6 games, also nice nostalgic remake for your gen 3 ass)
>Get Platinum, HGSS, BW/BW2 at your convenience since 3DS plays DS games as well
You really can't go wrong with a 3DS.
>>24976949
>Persona Q
I hope youre familiar with roguelikes and the Etryian odyssey series because youre in for pure hell if youre not. PQ is not easy at all
I restarted playing when XY came out after not playing since Gen 2
Buy the 3DS OP, you're going to have so much fun
Platinum
Black/White
Black2/White2
X/Y
Kinda related question here...
Do you guise think there'll be pokemon new 3DS version coming out soon? I want a new system and I hear the new screens are a lot better (that is if you actually get one of the new IPS? units)

The entire board is literally banking on there being a Z version later this year; most of the telltale signs for a third version are present. ORAS were announced in May and released in November of the same year, so I'd be sorely surprised if we didn't have a similar schedule for Z.
>>24977014
>mfw my pockets actually fit my 2DS
>>24977210
I end each day with a silent prayer that Z will be announced
Buy a 3DS and play the new games. Online battling and especially trading are a huge part of the game and you're missing out on those by playing older games.
>>24977210
A N3DS exclusive Pokemon game? Never. They can't alienate their fans like that.
I doubt they'd even do a N3DS "improved" version. That would require work.
>>24976936
Emulate DS, there aren't any Pokémon games worth playing on 3DS. Except Super Mystery Dungeon.
Also New 3DS is a complete waste, has a couple advanced features for a couple games and only one exclusive and it's been out for over a year. If you do decide to get a 3DS, an old 3DS or 2DS sounds fine.
>>24977639
>online battling
He could just use a simulator if he wants that, it's quicker to build a team and (at least in my experience) quicker to find a game. And 6v6 singles.
>trading
I don't know about DS, but you can locally trade with emulators for GB and GBA games and I wouldn't think it a stretch to be able to do so with DS.
>>24977014
>no hinges
Literally the best decision. Less to break, center of gravity is better, the list goes on...
Get a 2ds and go to >>>/vg/hgb/ for free games
>>24979963
fuck I fucked up >>>/vg/hbg/
>>24977130
>ORAS has the most new features among Gen 6 games
Okay.
>>24977210
3DS games run at the same resolution regardless of which version of the console you're running them on. New 3DSs might have higher brightness, and I think they're a bit bigger, but you don't really get much difference in image quality.
>>24976949
A lot of people will disagree, but 2DS is a good choice if you're not going to be playing it all that much. It's dirt-cheap and not as uncomfortable as it looks. It's not like anybody actually cares about the 3D either.
>>24976936
Get 3DS and play Platinum, HG/SS and wait for next game soon to be announced. Ignore everything else and don't let the autists in this thread tell you otherwise.
>>24979830
no one trades on an emulator and there's barely even any point trading in the older games, why would you even pretend that's the same thing?
>>24980324
What point is there for trading in the current generation that isn't in older games?
And I've traded with other people in emulation if we were playing a game at the same time. I suppose you don't need to since every game these days has a 151/251/386/etc. patch, but I still want to know what makes Gen 6 trading so special compared to Gen 4 or 5.
>>24980382
the current games have an active trading community and it's fun to mess around with features like wonder trade and the GTS
>>24980382
I think trading on the gts and wondertrade is more fun and convenient
>>24980421
>the current games have an active trading community
Yes, and?
Wonder Trade is fun for a bit, but I found it boring after getting the 50th Zigzagoon, doesn't seem worth trading anything through that if people aren't even going to try, the only time I ever use it now is pumping illegal event legends everywhere so 10-year-olds can have a power trip.
GTS stopped being useful after I caught them all.
>>24980449
>GTS stopped being useful after I caught them all
good for you, but this thread is about a new player, trading is a very important feature in this situation
>>24979980
>implying it doesn't
Ok
>>24980543
But you can do it without GTS if you wanted. And if he wanted to beat a game naturally you can catch 'em all in older gens if you team up with a friend who has the other version. And the GTS isn't going away any time soon either, it'll be there in Gen 7 if Gen 7 is less shitty than Gen 6 and worth getting.
