1) Gen 2. I don't know why, but it always holds a special place in my heart. 2) Gen 5. I don't know either. 3) Gen 1. I haven't finished any of the original RGBY games, but I think I like them purely due to nostalgia value. 4) Gen 4. I haven't finished Diamond, Pearl, or Platinum, and I don't know if I intend to. 5) Gen 3. Mechanics-wise, it introduced Natures and Abilities, which changed the series for the better. Story-wise, it introduced the whole "evil team calls forth a Legendary that you have to calm down" which got stale over time de arimasu 6) Gen 6. It was higher on this list...but then I played ORAS.
4 > 5 = 2 > 3 > 6 > 1 XY is the real worst Gen VI game Emerald is overrated but still good, and FRLG are mediocre unless you're new to the series, then they're really good for the occasion BW's story is praised way too much, but BW2 is GOAT Gen IV's Frontier is garbage, put Platinum/HGSS had some of the most fun maingame without dropping the ball at the postgame
>gen 2 yeah fuck you fucking fake fan totodile was fucking the worst shit in gen 2because theres like 2 fucking fire pokemon in the entire fucking game because the game is dogshit with firetypes on the fucking level of gen 4 and that gen was a fucking shitshow for fire types until big daddy platinum saved the day and fucking half the pokemon in gen 2 fucking stretch the asshole on water types because nearly every fucking pokemon is either water or grass because copy pasting is overrated shit and when you do pick totodile anyway because you're an idiot that doesnt realize that theres a fucking red gyarados 2 hours into the fucking game you finally get the ability to clear caves FILLED TO THE BRIM WITH FUCKING GEODUDES because the game is just caves full of geodudes and the outside routes full of shitty bug types and dogshit water types because for some reason those are the only two types that will ever exist in gen 2 because the game developers are lazy pricks
This is sort of a combination of how much I enjoyed each gen during the time they were out, and how well I think they hold up today. Main games only, no other aspects of the franchise taken into consideration. Otherwise 1 and 2 would reign supreme on nostalgia alone.
1) Gen 5 2) Gen 3 3) Gen 2 4) Gen 4 5) Gen 1 6) Gen 6
Good music, Goldenrod and Ecruteak just can't save it from an atrocious regional Pokedex and level curve while Gen IV despite having horrible games like DP had a comfy sprawling region like Sinnoh, great music and Super Contests at minimum.
>>24977925 Yeah. And I'm debating about even getting Y for or just waiting until the new games. I've heard so many bad things about it, especially after Korrina when the game makes you think things are going to be really adventurous and full of content, but at the same time it has the largest regional Pokedex since BW2's whopping near 300 with tons of great older Pokemon.
And I do want me that Mega Charizard Y and Yveltal.
>>24977958 It's not that bad. They're my least favorite games in the series, but I still enjoyed them. My biggest gripe was actually how little Kalos felt like it's own region. Kanto starters at the beginning holding mega stones as if to say "now the REAL stars of the show are here!", Snorlax blocking the road, Viridian Forest copypaste, Lapras gift, 6th gym is identical to Sabrina's, spinner tiles in villain's hideout, Lucario as a forced first mega, tons of fan favorites right at the beginning of the game, etc. The whole thing felt like "Pokémon: the 3D experience" to me, and that's not why I play these games. Seeing all these callbacks might be amazing to other people, on the other hand.
They definitely have a ton of new content, customization is a ton of fun if you picked the girl, boys get jack shit, it's certainly very nice to look at, and a ton of quality of life improvements were added to training and breeding.
I feel you would've enjoyed them a lot better at launch, though. An amazing aspect of being "Pokémon: the 3D experience" was the simultaneous worldwide launch. Discovering the region on your own, battling and trading with people around the world with your ingame teams as you went on your journey. Definitely my fondest memories of X/Y.
>V Second game so Pokémon still had the mystery to me. Since I'd never played anything but HG, I wasn't going into the game knowing how everything worked, so I happily ended the game with a Leavanny. The atmosphere of it all just made me like it. >IV Again, it's mostly the atmosphere. Johto was comfy as fuck, and so was Sinnoh. The Pokémon selection was nice, and while grinding in Johto was a bit of a pain, I worked through it. >VI First gen I got into competitive, and the fact that you can actually do it on a college student's free time is a major plus. Also, I rather like Kalos as a region, though I'm not gonna lie and tell you the plot isn't utter shit. >III Okay, it was pretty good, but the lack of physical/special split from someone who started in IV threw me off and it just seemed meh overall. >I The only reason this one's over II is because of the latter's atrocious levelling curve near the Elite 4. >II Special was a thing, black and white, meh sprites...maybe I'm just spoiled, but all I can call it is "meh."
Platinum and HGSS are both god-tier. BW2 is god-tier and BW1 is also pretty good. Emerald has the best postgame. Gen 1 and 2 aren't bad but they have better remakes so might as well just play those. Gen 6 has been awful outside PMD.
>>24977894 >is the reason now Gym Leaders can only have up to 3 Pokemon >Elite 4, the strongest trainers in the region, can only 4 Pokemon This is a rating thread by the way, not the thread for you apparently
I started to play since Gen 1, and Gen 2 is the most nostlagic to me, but ultimately I think 5 & 3 are better. 5 for the gameplay (and story), 3 for the region. I don't dislike Gen 4 but the plot was a copypaste of Gen 3's, and the region was nice but that's about it. Gen 1 isn't that great imo, but it's still nostalgic and all. Gen 6 did so much wrong right now that even if Z/whatever is GOAT, it'll be hard to call it good. And I don't even dislike Mega Evolutions.
favourite in what? how fun the experience of playing the main games was? or in average for all main games in a generation? how it was then, or how it was if i played it now? remakes included? etcetcetc ... or do you mean specifics. region? pokemon? and if this, then do you mean which one had the most that one considers great, or the least that are terribad, or all species sum and average, or... etcetcetc
MY FAVRET GEN IS 4 HUEHUE /not meaningless statement at all
>>24975976 2>3>4>6>5>1 I have lots of nostalgia for gen 2 and 3 since they're what I played with my friends in school. 4 has HGSS and platinum, which redeems the shifty DP games. Also phys/spec split. 6 is piss easy but it's the first time I played with friends in years, and the world just looks and feels better than ever. 5 is great but black/white where kind of dull and a lot of the best mons were limited to endgame. 1 is buggy with a lot of broken mechanics. I played it after 2, so that's probably why I'm not as nostalgic, but the first games are just hard to replay in my opinion.
it's not "mostly because nostalgia", it's completely nostalgia. gen2 was the most improvised and least thought through in the franchise so far. essentially it was just an expansion to gen1. and a very dependant one. it should be called gen 1.3 at best.
Becase gen 2 did the most to the franchise together with 3 and 6. Introducing breeding, shiny, new pokemon, which was a heavy selling point for the people, better and more detalied graphics and two regions, which is until now the only time they did it.
>>24979651 Gen 2 was less buggy/more polished than Gen 1 and introduced a lot of valuable in game mechanics that are still around today. Even if it were just "gen 1.3", you're trying to argue that the improved game is worse than the game it built off of.
>>24979739 I'm not trying to argue that it's the best. But the argument that it doesn't innovate at all is a poor reason to say it's not worthy of being someone's favorite. It adds a lot mechanically, and story has never been that important for a pokemon game. Gen 2 has a great setting, great music, and a lot of in-game elements that makes it a personal favorite, nostalgia aside.
