>Next week, Bandai Namco will be pulling back the curtain of another fighter on the way to Pokken Tournament. The announcement – which will likely come with a trailer – will be made on January 15. Only one clue has been shared: the Japanese name of the Pokemon has a letter ラ (ra) in it.
>50 staff members attempted to predict the Pokemon and their reactions were polled after knowing the result. Here are the results of that:
>– My prediction is correct! I’m really happy! – 1
>– My prediction missed, but I’m still glad – 13
>– My prediction missed, I’m salty – 31
>– I’m actually perplexed, so I can’t answer – 5
Anyone else find it fishy they post this? I guess they want to make sure people not to expect the expected.
Which Pokemon would make you go join the salty staff members?
>it's actually Lumineon
>it's even pretty good and ends up always been used
>my bro finally becomes more popular
>immediately gets a powerful mega in Z
Lumineon needs the buff
Her only advantage usage is being the only defogger not weak to stealth rock with great speed uninvested and water immunity but every other defogger outclasses her
Assuming what >>24970667 said is true or at least just have a pretty low chance of appearing, the list would look like this.
Still a pretty big selection.
Though from the poll that OP posted we could expect anything really.
Lets go Kingler!
Those poll stats give me hope it'll be a silly/obscure choice and Kingler would be a silly pick, but an awesome one!
I honestly don't think it's going to be Swampert. It would be really unfair to fans of the other generations' starters. I mean, Hoenn being the only generation to have all three of its starters playable? That would scream bias.
With a Mega Evolution being announced in Corocoro as part of the Volcanion Movie Promotion but Bandai Namco is going to want to ride on that hype too so they're going to make the character Flygon with Mega Flygon for Burst Mode.
I understand this feel. It sucks that when we discuss unrepresented types that shit like Lucario blocks off Steel type, or Gengar blocks off Poison type. I want real reps for those types, not obvious secondary types that don't matter for gameplay purposes.
but in the other guy's defense, at least Charizard flies in the game. Everyone in the world associates Charizard with Fire primarily, but at least his flying type matters.
Considering Sceptile and Blaziken, Swampert is incredibly likely.
Hitmonchan, Hitmonlee, or Hitmontop are likely, in that order
Sableye, Heracross, Kangaskhan, and Tyranitar are also likely.
In order, I'd say Swampert is most likely, Hitmonchan is second, Hitmonlee is third, and Tyranitar is probably fourth, in terms of likeliness.
There is a weird chance that Swampert isn't it, since I would assume it would be the most-guessed Pokemon, but most people didn't guess right.
I have faith, I want my tyrant qt3.14 in the game
I'm expecting a speed character, we only have Weavile atm who has been confirmed. Maybe Scyther would be cool for that.
However, Tyrantrum and malamar would both be cool, too. Goomy would be out of left field
Im glad theres someone else here who likes him. Plus its got the "brawler" look so hey I mean it could happen.
Personally, id be happy with
>Giratina (although I think his size and demeanor would make it...awkward.)
>Drifblim (once again, no clue how theyd make it work but hey it would be coo if they did)
>slowbro would be cool too I guess, though id prefer slowking
As long as it isn't Swampert I'll be happy. Literally the only reason people want him now is to complete the Hoenn starter trio. Well fuck you all. Why should the developers give a shit about arbitrary patterns? I suppose Entei and Raikou should be in because Suicune is? I suppose the other Cosplay Pikachus should be in because Pikachu-Libre is? Face it. Swampert has NOTHING going for him. He is an irrelevant shitmon who has had almost no screen time at all in the anime. Deal with it.
Sounds like you just have some irrational hate for based Swampert. I was originally gonna be disappointed if it wasn't some unexpected mon, but now I want Swampert just to spite you.
This is the same logic that people used when they wanted a Grass-type Pokémon after Greninja's reveal in Sm4sh. They don't HAVE to put Swampert in. There are no arbitrary patterns.
if it's swampert i'm going to be mad
Sceptile and Pika-Libre are also Speed characters.
Standard: Lucario, Pikachu, Suicune, Blaziken (and Shadow Mewtwo is probably Standard too)
Power: Machamp, Charizard
Speed: Weavile, Pikachu Libre, Sceptile
It's Power and Technique that need more characters.
Still missing a few Pokemon
The only thing that would potentially make me salty would be Raichu and most of the NFEs (which I don't think have a chance anyways). We really don't need three electric rats in this game despite what some fanboys might say.
I want Swampert mainly because it's my favorite Pokemon. Having Sceptile and Blaziken but not Swampert does seem odd and increases my hope that Swampert is getting in the roster.
So it I know it will be Blastoise, Dragonite Blaziken, a random Gen I mon, baby pink gold Pikachu or Dr Dark Metal Charizard but if we get Breloom, Hericross, Nidoking Pinser, Scizor, Magmotor, Tyranitar or Diggersby, just one of those mons, I'll be happy
The poll gives us basically no information except to eliminate the "obvious" candidates that get thrown around every time we discuss it like Swampert or Heracross, since more than one person surely would've predicted them.
>mfw this ends up happening
Her Mega Evolution would introduce some interesting tag team stuff.
Unlike the other Hitmons, Top represents a fighting style that won't be too similar to Machamp's punches and Blaziken's kicks. That fighting style also gets represented in Tekken, so the team knows what they're doing.
Bug types aren't represented in the game yet, and Heracross is fucking perfect for the job if they don't put Scyther, Scizor, or Genesect in the game. Its Mega Evolution is also meant to be mecha-like so the kids will love it.
To round the Hoenn starters out. That would be disappointing to many, but Swampert just so happens to be my favorite Pokemon so it works for me!
A T-Rex would be rad.
There are other great Gen 5 legendaries they could choose like Genesect or Meloetta, but I can see Landorus' other form as a reason why it might be chosen over the others.
You forgot Tyranitar. I feel like he's got at least as much of a shot as the others on that list, being rather popular and having a Mega.
That said, Heracross is my most wanted, but I'd be totally fine with Swampert or Hitmontop.
Just fucking kill me if they put in Landorus. All these landwhales in the thread like "huehuehue delicious tears huehue epic shitstorm" Jesus Christ I just want a decent roster for what might be the last playable Pokémon game. Vote for Trump if you're meme-thirsty.
It's probably Landorus or Terrakion.
>mfw Landorus goes Therian for its Burst mode
Reminder that Sceptiles pre-reveal advertisement color was Green and Red
This one is Blue and Orange
It it's not Swampert, find anything else in the list that has this coloration in some form, keep in mind Sceptile isn't that much red until he mega evolves
>Landorus is a meme choice
Popularity and usability?
Literally half the roster attends to this, they are all fucking memes
Suicune isn't really weird other than being a quadruped. It was the mascot of Crystal, and it has those ribbon things to make up for its lack of arms.
Aside from that, it's a pretty standard beam spammer.
Suicune is in because they wanted a quadraped that could attack with anything other than kicks and head butts
Venasaur isn't in because you had to make Vine Whip happen, whereas Suicune has the ribbons naturally
Though I do like Flygon and was rooting for it to get a Mega Evolution in ORAS, it isn't one of my favorites, and it not getting a Mega Evolution didn't bother me. It just would have been a nice thing to have.
But say what you want. From a marketing perspective, you can guarantee a Mega Flygon, at this point, could almost drive sales on it's own.
It doesn't make sense. If Greninja is that popular, anouncing it first would make sure the game would have a lot of sales, especially due to the anime.
>They'll have mega evolutions or something equivalent by then.
Plz no. No "Pay to Win" shit.
Removed the Pokemon that are background/support
R.I.P. Heracross xD
>tfw the genies are my favorite legendary trio
>tfw everyone else hates them
It's gonna be Kingler. No one would have guessed it and it fits the color/typing patters via the question mark and character color like Sceptile's did. However, these things also apply to Swampert so it, too, has a good chance.
>Implying it won't be Jynx
Gengar isn't a background mon, Gastly and Haunter are.
The only overlap we have so far is with Lapras and Mismagius being both assists and background characters.
Pikachu is a background mon in the Halloween version of the Haunted Mansion stage
Besides, the fact that there are TWO playable Pikachu characters should tell us that multiple Pokemon of the same species are a fair game
>mfw people actually delude themselves it's going to be anything other than Swampert
>only one Bandai Namcunt guessed Swampert
>31 are butthurt about super cool popular Pokémon
>five Namtards were too confused by the idea of either completing the Hoenn starter set or Swampert being in a fighting game
>I suppose the other Cosplay Pikachus should be in because Pikachu-Libre is? Face it. Swampert has NOTHING going for him.
Except big beefy ass arms, which Sceptile doesnt have. And Pikachu-libre learns a fighting-type move based on real-world fighting competitions
If Swampert was released and the hint suggested Sceptile, then your argument would be valid.
But Swampert belongs in a fighting game as the Potemkin-class character more than Sceptile, and Sceptile is one of my favorite 'mons.
>Scizor and 'Chomp have megas
>Scizors abilityis the same as its regular one and Chomp has a sand-based one
>TTar's ability is the same as its only, single, default non-hidden ability.
That makes a shit load of sense actually, I think anon is right.
>yfw TTar gets in
>yfw he fights
using Sand Stream as a weapon and controlling the sand around and inside of him and the rock underneath him
I want Kingler, but I think it's going to be Swampert.
However, based on what the workers said about how they had the wrong guess, is Swampert what they were all guessing or were they thinking of another pokemon?
Because if that's the case, then who would be the underdog here?
I think we can all agree that based on what has been given thus far and current trends, Swampert is the best guess for the next pokemon. Whether we want it or not, it makes the most sense based on what we know.
That being said, this poll thing makes me think that it could be any one of the blue pokemon.
Except there is one Pokemon I think people might be overlooking that has an interesting fighting style.
It's a physical fighter and would have many slashing moves. It could also have a bunch of status moves where it could blind the opponent or fuck with it.
I think people are also discounting the possibility of one of the hitmons, perhaps Hitmontop. A unique fighting style and fits the blue of the release image.
But again, in all likelihood, Swampert makes the most sense for the next pick. I won't be upset if it isn't, but most signs point to it being Swampert.
You both sound like you need to go to tumblr and do your drama there.
Swampert is the next in line to join the team, as it was meant to be. Now stop being so hurt over that other anon.
Fuck off. There is nothing that says they have to put in Swampert. Completing the Hoenn trio is unnecessary, just like how it was unnecessary to have a Grass-type in Smash to complete the starter type trio. Suicune already fulfills the quadruped Water-type quota. Swampert is unnecessary.
Swampert fits as a fighter design wise and would be the first Ground type in the game. Plus the ORAS shilling train didn't stop yet. This is why we've got Pikachu Libre instead of Hawlucha. This is also why we've got Sceptile recently, and why we will get Swampert next week to complete the trio.
Whatever Smash had/did is irrelevant, it was made by another developer
>high probability when Garchomp and Pikachu exist
>High: Kangaskhan, Hitmontop, Jynx, Slowbro, Tyrantrum, Landorus, Swampert, Terrakion, Marowak.
>Low: Hitmonlee, Hitmonchan, Raichu, Reuniclus, Malamar, Gliscor, Aggron, Rampardos, Raticate, Kingler, Heatmor, Florges, Flygon, Carracosta.
>Not gonna happen: The rest
the actual motions that the pokemon don't matter at all. the visual representation of a punch could easily be animated to be a tail slap or something. gyarados is insanely popular. minccino is an unevolved pokemon that nobody really cares about. they are never going to a NFE pokemon in other than pikachu.
>no other options
I'd say Kangaskhan, Jynx, Landorus and Terrakion are more likely at this point than Swampert or Heracross especially based on poll results.
And Heracross is a background mon so likely not gonna be playable.
I'd be cool with the Eddie Gordo of pokemon, but just like a lot of people here I fear it will be swampert, and >>24971586 makes a good point that there are few powerhouses and swampert would definitely fit that roll too.
it's tail could drag along the ground. it's really not that big of a stretch. there are lots of unconvential characters in fighting games. the tekken crew especially like to put in weird characters that break the mold (dr. b, gon, etc.)
I don't think Swampert is a shoe-in like other people believe. Why would only one person out of fifty get their prediction right when we already have Sceptile and Blaziken so Swampert would make sense?
>10% is left speechless
>Around 60% is salty and had it wrong
>Around 25% had it wrong and thought it was pretty cool
>Only one out of 50 had it right.
It's gotta be something that you wouldn't see coming, so I'm guess a pokemon that's not really popular per se.
Swampert would make sense and wouldn't leave people speechless or salty. Also more than 1 out of 50 would've guessed it. It can't be Swampert.
Narrowing it down it's gotta be Jynx, Terrakion or Landorus.
Other possibilities are Kangaskhan, Hitmontop, or Tyrantrum but I don't think they would cause those reactions.
>that list of possible pokemon
>that only one guy who guessed correctly
>that amount of wrong "salty" people
what are the odds it's something bizarre and niche from that "possible" list above?
i kind of have fingers crossed for luvdisc or vanilluxe, but would be pissed if any of the other shitty fish on that list got in.
got a feeling it is most likely to be swampert tho, them mega muscles are aching for pokken attention
>Body types not suitable for gameplay mechanics
Tell that to Suicune, after it's inclusion "body type" argument went out the window
If they wanted to they could probably add a serpent and bird/constantly flying pokemon and make it work.
>implying it's not gonna be shiny Flygon
>implying anyone would ever guess it
They're going pretty all out on Megas in this game, so my guess is that they're waiting until Greninja gets an actual mega that they can implement. It's either that or they'll make him the final reveal; maybe to hype up the console release, considering he's been one of the most requested characters since the poll that gave us Gengar.
The question is not if he'll be included in the game. The question is WHEN will he be added?
so Jynx then? Or another 'wildcard' such as Raticate or Granbul.
Or a random mon such as Heatmor, Carracosta, Rampardos, Maractus or Malamar, none of which are known to be extremely popular.
I think people would not be salty about Hitmontop and Kangaskhan either. Hitmontop makes sense in a 'fighting game' and Aggron, Tyranitar, Kangaskhan, Reuniclus, Florges, Gliscor and Tyrantrum are popular. Same goes for Terrakion and Darkrai, they're legendaries and you'd think people would be cool with that.
That being said I still think Landorus is likely.
what about the one they were going to reveal with N in the name?
Did they announce it already or is it a pokemon with N and RA in the name?
Yfw it's fucking Swampert
>inb4 fug you I'm excited
It's ugly as fuck and will be an extremely boring character. Waste of a slot. If Swampert is your favorite, good for you, but you still know that it's not going to be good or interesting in pokken
4 Pokémon (5 considering PikaLibre, 6 considering Shadow Mewtwo)
I actually think that the anon with the question mark color theory might be right.
With Sceptile the question mark was radiating a green color indicating a Grass type.
This time it's radiating a blue color indicating a Water, Ice or Flying as a primary type.
Eliminating pokemon without limbs, background mons and mons that have difficulty moving on land we're left with
>Kingler, Jynx, Swampert and Carracosta.
Pattern fagging is stupid lad. For example, I could say that based on the last guess only mons that have " ra" as the last part of their names have a chance, because jukain has it and up until now it has happened a 100% of the time. Based on that chadelure is kinda confirmed too
My point is that you and the others are trying to look at things that might not really be there at all.
>I was just speculating based on valid reasoning and logical assumptions, no patterns
>It's the colour I swear, it indicates the actual typing of the next mon, I`m not making some mental gymnastics
>Patternfags actually believe that.
Honestly, my two favorite Pokemon are already in the game. Charizard was a given, but never in my wildest dreams did I expect Weavile to make it too. While Scrafty would complete my dreams, I'm honestly pretty satisfied. Anything else is just gravy.
