Objectively, Gen 1 had no other generations to jockey against at the time, but I know that's not what you mean.

I'm gonna say Gen V. Being released on the DS was a double edged sword; it got a little stagnant after playing DPPtHGSS on the same console, but at the same time, it meant they had time to flesh out aspects of the game they never focus on much, like the story, or the achievement medals. If you take it completely out of context, it was a very well rounded and enjoyable gen.

Meanwhile, you take like ten steps out of Mauville and you're either in a fucking desert or on the beach or in a mountain tunnel or in a rainforest.

The main thing about BW2 was the Pokemon World Tournament. That's basically what had everyone creaming their unmentionables. The medal achievement system was nice too, and so was the movie studio thing.

I dislike all of the genies, their therian formes didn't do a thing to redeem them in my book. They're ugly sameface cloudfags. See, when they were first introduced, nobody liked them. Everyone agreed that they were stupid looking and that Unova didn't need another trio. But then everyone realized that they're really fucking powerful.

What this means is that everyone who used the genies was only playing to win, regardless of whether or not they even liked those Pokemon. The hypercompetitive players are an issue because Pokemon isn't meant to be a competitive game, it's not an e-sport. The RNG and IVs should be enough evidence that Pokemon was never meant to be competitive in the way that some people make it.
