I'm happy we can walk alone in Pokemon Omega/Alpha !!! I fear it wasn't going to happen and we have a pokemon following us !!! are you happy for that?
Not OP, but I started playing with Yellow, so having the feature return would be a nice touch.
Also, in the published Capumon notes, Tajiri talks about the importance of walking with Pokemon, and the role it plays in fostering a bond. Like other features, it was dropped due to Gameboy limitations.
Keep in mind that B/W were developed at the same time as HGSS, and BW2 was built on the BW assets. Implementing the feature it in XY would've required over 1000 fully animated models, which isn't feasible given the current storage medium.
It'll return, when the technology allows it to.
I would expect it to return, but not anytime soon.
OP here. I started with Silver in 2002 ! bu bu bu but ... I'm glad I did it. cause I would hate my first game was a 'dual adventure'... "hey I'm not a person, I'm a person who have a pokemon following me" this is my character.
This horseshit belongs in the YouTube comments section, not fucking here
Fuck I hate the rollerskates so fucking much.
Game Freak have become notorious for cutting corners due to the success of the games, with the frame rate of X and Y being a perfect example. Like that less eloquent poster made note of, areas like Lumiose City that use a dynamic camera could potentially require reshaping and rasterizing the models, not to mention potential RAM and frame rate issues.
In Yellow and HGSS, I found myself riding my bike far less. The mechanic made me want to slow down, enjoy the scenery, and interact with my Pokemon.
1> I said this before you, bitch!
2> I walked slow in johto cause it's the best region and I wanted to do it slowly to enjoy the landscape . but without the part of seeing that shit following me [ thyploshion ]
what the f*ck is going in this thread...
As a artist and developer who works in the game industry, I can say that you're over-simplifying the process. It just isn't about storage space.
That being said, there's really not an excuse because it definitely IS possible. However, as >>20620132 pointed out, what's the point of doing that?
Realistically, the best way to do it would be to add a LOD (level of detail) to the existing art assets so you don't have to re-rig or have separate rigs for every over world Pokemon. The next step would be to have the animator come up with a walk cycle for every Pokemon. All in all, it's quite a task but far from impossible and far from unfeasible. However, if they know they're going to make a shit-ton of money with less effort, they're going to do that.
Honestly, I almost feel they added walking Pokemon in HG/SS for the older fans who hadn't touched the series in years. I know many people who grew up with it, stopped around Crystal, then got back into it because of HG/SS. GF needed those games to be successful to re-invigorate the fandom outside of Japan. To be frank, they did a fantastic job with their goal. I know many adults who got back into Pokemon because of HG/SS, and because of this acceptance it's become socially acceptable to like Pokemon again despite your age (relatively speaking). This acceptance has lead to more adults being open with their interest in the franchise. Hell, the newly opened Pokemon Center website has tons of stuff a kid has no use for including many adult-only size clothing.
No, it should be optional.
The last time we had fucking tag along pokemon the game suffered from slowdown in several areas. Seeing as how XY struggle to maintain their framerate, this would only make things worse.
