Next games are gen 8 on the switch. I guess it really depends on how they handle this game though. The national dex being stored in bank now technically means they could add more Pokemon to the game that aren't in the dex, I think. Which would include new events as downloadable data.

If anything the lack of an in-game National Pokedex makes me think there definitely will be another Gen 7 game so you can transfer the Alola Pokémon over to that game.

I hope we get another game on 3DS, but they need to optimize it. I don't think they'll ve remakes, so a third version / sequel is the only choice. They can introduce more forms of Pokemon not in the dex and Megas, but I doubt they'll add more species.
