I think the "legit" intention is to show the codes to people in real life, scanning each other's 3DSs.
So if you have something that's kind of hidden like bagon or whatever you can show your pal exactly where to catch it, or allow them to search for it on the GTS.

How would you fix some of your favorite Mons without changing their base stats?
