If you play alone its kind of meh, just like an ordinary Pokemon game but with people wanting to sell you stuff and people wanting to battle you.

With friends however, it becomes an entire new level of fun, you get to explore the region(s) together, trade, battle each other and watch your teams grow along the way. Very pleasant experience when played with friends.
