I wouldn't be too impressed defeating a Dragonite that refused to fight back, a Liepard that used Ghost attacks, or a Sawk that was already weakened by a Swarm Leavanny's X-Scissors.
I just learned that the black part on its face is actually an open mouth. All these years I thought it was just a moustache or something like the white parts around it.
I loved the genies when I thought that it was a moustache thing but now that I see they have their mouths open like that I'm not as fond of them as I was before.

We are nearing 1000 Pokémon... We will never be able to "Catch them All" and this is getting ridiculous with the USUM national Pokedex being 800+ pages... One day Pokémon might Reboot and start over at 0 so how would you handle this?

That's kinda how it is already. An approach where each pokémon is a different species and culture sounds more like a world-building nightmare than anything. Maybe it could work if similar pokemon were races of a same species (like all the cat-like pokémon simply being "felines").
I'd be great if was done right, though. I'd love to play as a Lopunny knight.
