I liked Yamato. Thought he was a douche at first and was expecting to hate him but his fate scenes won me over. I ended up feeling really bad for him, especially as the extent of his social unawareness became increasingly obvious, e.g when you tried to joke with him and it would all fly right over his head, and how he became increasingly unintentionally childlike/silly when he interacted alone with the MC later in the game. Also his having meltdowns over wanting the MC to himself, while insane, was depressing when you consider why. By the end though, it felt like he got some of the best development in the game.

All I hope for is that they don't screw him over too hard just to sell a new pair of tits. I want to like Miyako, was excited when she was announced, and will give the game a chance, however I sort of agree she's being shoved a bit too hard all over everything, instead of a natural introduction. Atlus' bad record of poorly handled new characters isn't exactly reassuring anybody either.

Not him but I think he also included stuff like common as shit anime tropes like hot springs incidents, kya you pervert type of stuff, landing in unfortunate positions (think desu 2 when Fumi and Otome land on Bunny's crotch and face). Most of the time these things bring nothing to the plot and while this isn't necessarily a bad thing, we need some respite after all, they're the same tired unfunny stuff you see in the trashiest shonen or harem manga. The older games might have had character archetypes but even one of the most annoying parts of SMT 2 (Puck) was a literary reference. Hell, P2 kept its hot springs skit to the drama CD and turned it into a parody.
I'd say fanservice in itself isn't the problem but pandering to the lowest common denominator. I know it brings money but I still think it's shitty.
