I saved all of the Noise items I found during my playthrough and slapped Item Find on my active party while I was Mantra grinding in the room where Shiva and whatsaname's doors are. I've got like, 30 of each Noise item, it's insane.

You can try there if you want, sure. Are you using Magic Reeds as well? That really speeds things up. Encounter rates were "fixed" in DDS2 so to speak; reinforcements during battle were stupidly rare in DDS1 even after using a Magic Reed, but in DDS2 they're a lot more common. If you're lucky, you might get multiples of 2-3 types of Noise in a single battle.

IV is probably the most beginner friendly mainline game in the series. The very beginning is pretty brutal, but, it'll be smooth sailing once you get past one of the early bosses.

Remember to hit weaknesses, use buffs/debuffs, and fuse often.

Man it sucks losing my hunter big time. At least I had Cielo built as a backup healer at the time so he isn't completely dead weight.

In other SMT games you have Demon Fusion.
In DDS, you devour your enemies to gain power to learn skills permanently. Isn't that a form of fusion? Fusing the AP you harvest with the Mantras to learn skills?

Also, DDS2 gets good with the plot from the start, so you have no reason to quit now.
If you made it to the final dungeon of DDS1, why even quit?

The elemental dances can still ruin people's days but your best bets are Holy Dance/Megido/Medigoladyne

Chances are they didn't think it out that well when it comes to what takes place when and why Kyouji has so much free time. At least parts of P1 and DS1 both take place in '96, and at least parts of P2 and SH take place in '99, with Rei and others saying SH is 3 years after the incident in Hirasaki City, and Eikichi's line towards the end of IS about it being "almost the 21st century/new millennium'.
