Key art is pretty good, I don't know why they don't do more eroges.
I'm okay with that.
I have a good idea for the next one.
That's not the lovely tsundere who got the shittiest route in the whole game.
>shittiest route in the whole game
Did you even play shizuru's route? She was easily one of the best character in the game but her route was just done so terribly.
>implying I ever said anything about liking lucia's route
>tfw Shizuru and Lucia were my favorite routes in the game
I thought Lucia's was pretty fun overall for the most part. The main drama point was kind of silly but I thought R07 was just trying hard to channel a similar feel from tsumihoroboshi so even if it didn't quite work out I was able to forgive it somewhat.
Sorry anon, I guess you just have
a fair opinion
Shizuru's route was disappointing, not necessarily "bad." Lucia's route was just alright, it balanced itself out from some really good points and some really bad ones.
You should read, it's pretty good.
Though might wanna wait for Steam release and possible voice patch and shit. Even though I don't really like what I've seen of the Steam art so far but I am willing to give it a chance.
Anyone played this? Is it decent?
I just stumbled upon this randomly the other day, never heard of it, never seen it mentioned here (though I'm not exactly a regular here so it's not really a surprise).
Nah, basically the MC's girlfriend is called Arietta, which is contracted to Ari in the translation but in jap, together with her surname, makes Al Fine, which is a relevant name outside of its musical meaning.
Of course it makes more sense how the translator did it, but kills the purpouse, so it was unavoidable.
Phar is the same guy who did YU-NO. He's not around anymore, but his translations were around the same level of quality as Makoto or Koestl's.
He also had excellent taste in VNs, for what it's worth.
I'd say it has even more than Amane's route, goes into detail about his past life and his old mentor and stuff.
Also I found the stuff with Makina to be fun, kind of reminiscent of the early Cal scenes in Phantom of Inferno or something. Who wouldn't want to raise an impressionable loli into a hardened killer?
So I couldn't find anything interesting that I haven't already played/read (Except untranslated shit, "hey guys we did a machine translation of the interface of this 50+ hour SRPG VN, that counts right?")
I ended up downloading Captive Market and Yandere.
Captive Market wasn actually legitimately good until it just became porn, I mean, it's Black Lilith so every image is fapworthy but come on they could have done so much more with the story.
Haven't started Yandere yet though. Hopefully it's not too shit. From what I read it's mostly just finding out what each bad end is.
Why is nothing good getting translated? Hell, even the popular Rance series, Rance 8's been out for 3 years and STILL has no translation, fuckin' Rance 9 is out already.
>Captive Market wasn actually legitimately good until it just became porn, I mean, it's Black Lilith so every image is fapworthy but come on they could have done so much more with the story.
That's just how Black Lilith's writers work. String along a boring ass story for about an hour or two then slap the porn in after they've setup the props of the story.
>Why is nothing good getting translated?
Because everyone has different tastes. And because it takes two individual skills which can be difficult for one person alone to do. Most of the time you need a person skilled into hacking a vn's engine and you need a fluent translator. People who can do both are rare. Hell without anyone to pop those translations into the vn's in the first place all those translators wouldn't even be able to do shit besides posting the scripts around in text files.
>Everyone has different tastes
Yeah but only mine matter. There are a million slice of life VN and they are all the same shit, so why translate those when you can actually translate something interesting? I will never understand.
Well, I'm finishing the ef ride and since I liked it, I would like to know which VN you guys might recommend.
Also anything related to personality disorders and amnesia. Im interested in those.
I fell for it once.
I've done that previously. I've dodged ef because it doesnt looked so interesting and the chuch point made me nope (I dislike religion), but some guy here insisted so I checked it. I'm asking to see if I'm missing something.
There's also the point of popular VNs which aren't really good. I want to avoid the pain of reading something like Rewrite or Grisaia again.
Too bad she got the throw-off 'we really don't give a fuck' route.
Though I guess the drummer girl's route was worse. Barely. Maybe.
This game is a really good example of a writer who wants to make a kinetic novel, but gets pressured by the publisher to give it choices and routes. He wrote one more route (the childhood friend one) after finishing the one that was clearly meant to be the canon one (the generic kuudere 'so serial musician' route), got tired, then shit out a few half hearted paragraphs to give the other two girls routes.
Has anyone else noticed that the new movie "Edge of Tomorrow" blatantly rips off of muv-luv?
-mech suits fighting against aliens
-have to kill the "brain" that controls all of the aliens
-aliens use the name beta as well
It's based on All You Need Is Kill which has a lot of similarities with Muv-Luv, though I think it's more due to the fact that they both ripped off the same thing (Starship Troopers) and it happened to share a few other characteristics with it by coincidence, rather than the author intentionally doing it
Playing Imouto Paradise right now, and for some reason all of the H scenes that are animated have strange bugs. The animation starts, then not half a second into it it just restarts back at the first frame, stays paused for a second then does it again.
Anyone know how to fix this?
What do you do when you want to read Visual Novels but you can't because your blind imouto can't stop screaming?
Not him, but I do that. It's fun seeing religious people rage.
Not going to stop reading something because it has religion in it, though. That's just retarded, and shows a lack of ability to separate fact from fiction, just like religious people.
It's more of a dark comedy for me. Shit like how a 100 foreskins of the King's enemies was paid as the price for his daughter is fucking hilarious.
Why isn't there a VN adaptation of the bible? I'd read it.
Rance Quest is difficult to translate because it's pretty bloated.
Plus there is no point playing with out having played the earlier games. Which is why the translation has started from the start.
Kichikuou Rance will be released this month and if you haven't read Rance I, play Rance 02 and play Rance III and IV before that.
I heard the translation is bad but this is just terrible. I can't understand what's going on in Ageha's route.
I'm at the part where Aoi gets a text from Ageha in the morning to go to the secret base.
From what I can tell, Ageha is doing something in secret, and has Hotaru hang out with Aoi in her place and something about that teacher who hates the Soaring Club.
Can anyone tell me what's going on here? Please tell me the rest of the route isn't as much a mess as this.
Fuuuucck she's my favorite girl so far too. Tomboys are hnnng
I have the restoration patch but it just puts back the h-scenes from what i can tell. The bad translation is still there
Anyone here knowledgeable with recording VNs?
I'm wondering why my OBS recording isn't as good as my Bandicam recording. The OBS's audio has a lot of background static or something, and the beginning transition is a bit choppy. Framerate gets noticeably worse for more resource-intensive games like Twinkle Crusaders, but shit runs just fine on Bandicam without me changing any settings.
(Disclaimer: Adorable high-pitched squeal at the start of the vid. You have been warned.)
In the end, I guess it doesn't really matter, I can live with the watermark. But if there's a solution that I'm missing with OBS, I might as well try to find it.
Not that I'm aware of. There's the MoeNovel shitty translation, and then theres the Restoration Patch which just adds in the H-scenes and other lewd scenes MoeNovel censored. There was suppose to be a second patch that fixed the translations, but going by the Fuwanovel thread it looks like it might never be released as they're barely halfway done with only Kotori's route after over a year.
Yes. I have a weakness for tomboys and short haired girls.
She's a tomboy who is very conscious about it and wants to look girly.
That's why she was so proud of having become "womanly" when she met Aoi after a long time.
The translation didn't ruin that, did it?
This. It's frequently mentioned how she looks like a girl but she's a guy inside, and she acts extremely tomboyish.
And that's what makes them so great, once you go underneath that tomboyish personality and discover there deredere feminine side.
>Want to play a visual novel
>Find out it has a port with extra stuff
>Get that instead and start playing
>Find out there's an even newer VIta port
>Lose all motivation to play
This is happening way too much. Fucking Vita ports.
This is probably one of the few times where Fuwanovel is actually useful http://forums.fuwanovel.org/index.php?/topic/1323-android-visual-novel-lets-play-visual-novel-on-the-go/
There's also a link to a Pirate Bay torrent in there that contains VNDS, shitty ren'py games, and a whole bunch of VNs ported for VNDS.
Maybe you could start arguing with yourself like in the good ol' times?
I don't discuss anything here. I just lurk 99% of the time unless someone talks about nukige I care about.
But I started a discussion about there being no discussion and it kinda worked out, didn't it?
Anyone else looking forward to Danganronpa 2 in a couple of days?
Maybe more relevant to handheld adventure game general but I know this place talked about the first one for a while after its release.
Nothing to discuss anon. Nothing good is translated recently and EOP hate it when /jp/ bring untranslated vn here. That's why I only post cute girls occasionally while lurking.
Yep. He's one of my favorite male characters in the medium. Well written character, incredibly entertaining and it has a pretty cool design. You gotta
handit to him, he stole the show after the first case.
Yep, his VA was truly amazing.
missed him in Case 6. He and Junko could have made some pretty funny and interesting interactions between each other (they would have probably orgasmed at the same time when Naegi appeared too)
My guess is that
considering how attention-hogging he is, he'd have taken the spotlight from giant Junko and the hope team. Also he may have killed himself if he discovered he worked against hope and went even more insane.
he also killed himself because of the files he found on Chapter 4 had his name and past as SDHS/SHSL/Ultimate Despair alongside everyone else. Also, he still hated Junko as proven by Chapter 0 (maybe he even felt in love/got obssesed with her a bit as well going by the "WHAT IS THIS WHAT IS THIS?" bit), so the reason he joined was probably linked with making the whole world despair so that he could see/spread HOPE himself once shit had truly hit the fan
Well yeah, but surviving till chapter 6 would mean he didn't find them in 4.
Also the guy was probably in love with Junko in some really fucked up and twisted way, probably her despair attracted him because of his shitty life and wanted to see if someone could follow his motto of bigger despair brings bigger hopes.
Are you asking to be spoiled, anon-kun?
Good heavens, just look at the time.
Just recently finished pic related. What is /vn/s opinion on this?
Oh man, did I need this to make me feel better. What a rollercoaster.
Not sure why he needed to be in a wheelchair at the end but whatever
Definitely somewhere in my top 10
>Definitely somewhere in my top 10
Ew, whatever pleases you man, but I found it really abysmally shitty except at some ends of routes. True end was kinda good too, but too much boring parts to make it better than 6/10
>implying that what you read does not.
If reading is for faggots, then think what reading VN's might be considered.
>Blah blah blah. This argument is dumb because I'm actually offended.
I just had way too much fun with it. I am probably a huge sucker but I was completely pulled into every emotional, hotblooded, etc. moment in the entire story. I do think one or two routes could have been better but I thought overall it was a great experience.
I can say that the Chou routes were probably better than original routes and I have to wonder why they weren't in the original game in the first place
Didn't play chou, I didn't have a good enough experience with the original to justify it.
But I have great news, if you were that hooked by it, you're probably gonna like any VN ever.
I wish I could go back to when I had low standards
THE TRUEST OF TRUE TRUTH? WOAH
Well maybe when I have some place in my backlog I'll give it a shot.
Why do you assume a person can't enjoy more than one type of entertainment?
Also real books are harder to masturbate to.
Where would I go if you guys disappeared on me? I would be totemo sabishii.
>go through a route
>actually think you'll be safe from jealousy in other routes
Nope. It requires a great girl to actually accept MC ended up with other girls under the right conditions.
Mostly that one scene in Insects. Invention wasn't really all that bad, and the
teacher scenewas just funny. That one scene with the breathing in Insects was pretty rough though. I'm interested to see how many people make it through that if something like SnU "scarred them for life".
Do they now? last I checked they didn't do new releases at all. Unless you're talking about VNs.
BTN actually gets a decent selection of currently airing anime if you don't want to try your luck on shit like TPB
How reliable or unreliable is VNDS?
Will be pretty much on the road for 3 days and staying with relatives for a week.
How well it works varies from VN to VN. From what I've tried, Inganock, Wanko, and Niji no Kanata ni have very few problems, but Higurashi, Umineko, and Tsukihime are buggy or don't work well in that format. There are also some games that were ported for smaller screens in mind so they will look like shit on tablet and maybe some phone screens. Give it a shot, because for the VNs that do work, it's a very comfortable experience.
I have a question.
I have been playing through some vns lately and want to try my hand at one. I know it will never be anything I release to others, and it wont have music or pictures, but I'd like to try that storytelling method.
have anyone else tried this? is there a 'trick' to writing in this way.
So, if I want to read Fate/Stay Night I get Realta Nua?
Is this the best patch?
Please help me out here, guys. There is a billion different versions of this and I'm not sure which is the best one.
So I finished Toradora anime two week ago and I'm assblasted that
Minori didn't win. Yes it was ultra obvious but it still piss me off.
So is Minori route in the psp visual novel worth playing ?
I download a patch who enable the H scene (and they where uncensored, so no shitty pixel who hide everything) in realta nua and also put the ps vita opening. But I can't remember where I download it, I'll tell you where I download it when I'm out of the office.
Eh to bad. Well I'll try it if I have nothing better to do since I only want to play her route so it won't be too long.
I hate those pixel on genital, it make no fucking sence and kill my boner. FS/N H scene are shit but without the censor it's a litle bit less shitty.
For the most part better than the alternatives. Judging from how they handled it in the anime the stuff they replaced the H with seemed somehow even more contrived than the H was. Didn't help that they tried to fill it with pointless innuendos anyway even though they supposedly weren't fucking anymore.
If girl is bokkuko
and wants senpai to notice
then who is gay
bokkuko girl or senpai?
And thank God for that.
I wouldn't want Mion to get into such terrible company.
That's not psychopath crazy genki "omochikaeri" orange shoujo.
Good taste about michishit though
Don't mind those steins;gate spoilers
Speaking of Higurashi, anyone getting the steam version? Have they said if they're keeping the mangagamer tracks or the original tracks?
Higurashi is really my favorite VN, so I hope they don't fuck it up
Is it really pleb of me to enjoy Majikoi and not really anything else?
I can see its pleb, I know it is
But for some reason I can't help myself but enjoy it, despite hating the cliches that make me give up on other VNs.
The soundtrack will remain as it is. MG answered a ask.fm question about it - http://ask.fm/MangaGamerStaff/answer/114777386226
I won't buy the game on Steam but on their site. I'm pretty sure that MG will give Steam keys to those that buy through the site anyway.
I'd actually like a few achievements on Higurashi. What do you think about a real cruel one like doddler twitted recently? https://twitter.com/The_Doddler/status/506196194909904896
Oh, that's good I guess
As much as I would have liked the original Japanese tracks, I really like the mangagamer ones, especially this one
It was perfect every time it played, the air that it puts off when it's playing with the scenes going on, it's fucking great
I don't know who should I ask.
Is /evng/ dead for good?
I haven't seen one in ages.
I'll love to read the comments of the guys on Steam about Higurashi atmosphere when shit starts to get real.
Regarding the replaced tracks, I think that the ones that MG selected are actually pretty nice and fit well within the game. I don't feel like my experience was negatively affected because of it because I thoroughly enjoyed reading Higurashi. I still remember how I cut on my sleep just to read more of it. Those were good times.
If you're bored that easily, a medium where you read text with the occasionally changing picture for 20+ hours may not be for you.
S;G is a slow starter but especially early on most VNs spend a lot of time focusing on the characters' personalities and interaction while things actually happening takes a backseat.
your seriously being smug about a genre where you read stuff? if you dont like my opinion thats fine but dont act high and mighty that you liked something i didnt and therefore get to tell people they if they dont like x they wont like an entire genre.
>your seriously being smug about a genre where you read stuff?
>he isn't smug about what he reads and then brags about his patrician taste among plebs
I bet you tell people that their opinion counts, too
Not really. I just don't have any social lifewhatsoever (I've been working part time this month to pay for university this year though), so when I have time, I use it to clear my anime/vidya/VN backlog.
A lot of those are very short nukiges though. You could probably play two or three in a single day if you wanted to.
The only VN I've played this year that were middle length/long are Eiyuu Senki, Grisaia, Yumina, Kara no Shoujo, I/O, Majikoi S, AAI2, AA5 and PLvsAA.
Don't worry, anon. Our secret weapon is that
In case you haven't noticed, you're being trolled. Try checking the game tags on VNDB. Be sure to confirm first if you have the spoiler tags disabled on the site.
If you want a short and fun game play Dra Koi. But if you want a serious VN you'll have on most occasions a slow start. You don't loose anything by spending some time on it. In fact, you may finally achieve enlightment and become one of us!
I wish there is a vn when when your childhood friend already has a boyfriend, your little sister always bring a different guy to her her room and your crush is currently dating your older and you hear them fucking in the next room almost everyday.
Make it happen japan.
Finished Comyu two days ago. I also read this year Steins;Gate, Air, Ultimate Boob Wars, Really Really and Koi iro shu! Lips. I also read another nukige and other pretty short OELVN. Now I'm reading ImoPara and after it the fan disc of my girlfriend is the president.
Sucks working full time.
If you literally where, you wouldn't even be posting
This is really getting silly and I really can't stop reading for some reason
How come some silly germans make better VNs than japaneses?
Guys, please. I'm crying. ;_;
How do I even translate this shit? This is the worst three-way incestual kanji pun I have ever seen.
The context is UMI DAAA!
Yuki, Hasaki, and a shota go to the beach. Yuki goes swimming and leaves the two children to play on the beach, and she says that line just before she leaves.
The joke is that she's talking to the shota and telling him to look after his little sister, so she says this phrase: ???????? (literally 'Boys be ambitious'), except she replaces ?? with ?? which is pronounced exactly the same and means ambassador. Then she references Ambassador Magma and Prince Shoutoku, except she thinks Prince Shoutoku is an ambassador because his name, ??, is pronounced the same way as both ?? and ??.
Oh, and on top of all that, the word ?? would normally mean to have a certain emotion, i.e. ambition in 'Boys be ambitious', but Yuki uses the reading which means to hug someone, so she's basically telling shota boy to go hug a guy who's been dead for 1400 years and a fictional character.
Scaji is 2deep4me.
Oh damn you're already translated all the way up to Jabberwocky 2? Uh good luck with the rest of it I guess.
Yuki is so great, holy shit.
moogy doesn't actually think it's especially untranslatable, it's only in the 3rd of 5 tiers of difficulty on his list, and that's probably partially because he doesn't know enough about the subject of philosophy to personally translate it adequately himself
kanji puns like this show up even in random moege all the time, translating is just hard period
i suggest making something up that conveys the same sort of wordfoolery in english unless shoutoku or whatever are actually plot relevant idk
Liberally. Get creative.
I'd begin by looking at the starting point of the joke (the "boys be ambitious!" quote) and seeing if there's any way you can play around with "ambitious" in a similar way. Don't be afraid to jettison the other references entirely.
Usually puns like that are just totally rewritten. See: A magi-nation scene from Grisaia. The original version was a similar sort of pun, but not at all the same. Just gotta find some way to keep the same spirit of it without looking retarded.
It doesn't, but thankfully we can read the kanji she's saying, and apparently so can Tomosane. It seems like VN characters have a magical telepathic ability to inform each other of what kanji they intend to use.
I still think we need a hitler vn.
So, /vn/, what was the last visual you read that had you so engrossed that you lost track of time, didn't want to stop reading, and was sad when you actually finished because you wanted more?
I think the last one for me was Muv-Luv
both were from around the same time, muv luv clearly had a longer development process just because of the format and so on than the all you need is kill and goes way further in the post apocalyptic setting, though all you need is kill was released before and usually is what people claim, though I fail to see a reason why would one compare both.
>Great production values, amazing OST, hilarious and unique setting, pretty good characters, hot art with good H-scenes, enjoyable dialog
Daiteikoku could have easily been Sengoku Rance tier. How did they fucked the gameplay so hard is beyond me.
>hey TADA look at this fire emblem game
>it has this cool system where one class hard counters another
>Let's make daiteikoku exactly that!
At least BBA had a few exceptions to the usual Long>Mid>Short>Long triangle.
I would have liked to see what the gameplay could have been if it remained as a RTS one instead of what we got. I mean, sure, judging by Madou's Koukaku gameplay it could have been bad as well, but not this bad.
You claim you played IX, look the ending when she assembles the whole hero cast, fucking hype for the sequel, right? No, every fucking time, hype and comes the game, new useless feature in the game for killing three of the ones that were working, new setting, finally killing demons? Whoa, but 40% is trying to, rape demon girl 30% is rapping demon girls, 10% is rapping your slave underlings, you get it.
RVI was the only good game, if you can ignore how they walked on the map, all the other ones are lackluster when compared to it, trying to innovate, but failing to get the same feel, despite having inherited the setting. The writing is okay if you want rape shenanigans, as said above, but don't get deluded to say it's good writing when this only happens about the 10% of the time it isn't rance shenanigans, of course they have that 10% of good parts, well, after all they were already a dozen of games released, they got right one or two points, but that's about it and this is just rance.
Well, daiakuji and pastel chime were okay.
Muv-Luv came out in 2003, minus the Alternative part which was intended to be part of Muv-Luv but got delayed to 2006.
All You Need Is Kill came out in 2004.
But more importantly Groundhog Day came out in1993, and Starship Troopers (the movie) came out in 1997.
I haven't really gotten that far yet, the OP hasn't even played yet.
MC gets a time travel device right during the first scene and meets the main girl during the second who flat out tells you she's sick. Also MC can travel back in time but can't change the future in the slightest no matter how often he tries, even if it's a trivial as catching a balloon a kid lets go of, so it seems kind of useless. The lack of build up to these events make me wonder how the VN will play out, since it's listed as being long on VNDB.
The writing style is pretty easy if you care about that.
>but can't change the future in the slightest no matter how often he tries
This would make it easy to write a story with less plot holes, but at the same time, I'm not seeing how it's going to be any fun.
I see, please post about it if it gets any better, I'll keep an eye out for your post. If it's just gong to wind up being a mediocre nakige then I won't even bother since the time investment for a title that long is pretty big.
I'm currently giving SweetLight's 4k moege with emote a try for a light read on the side of the other two titles I've been reading for the last few weeks. It's definitely a different experience, having the sprites move and everything is very cool.
I hope you're joking, Muramasa is probably the worst title to use machine translation with. Enjoy your neverending infodumps and dense as fuck 3 hour fight scenes.
Is Saya no Uta worth reading?
I never actually followed the rec. chart and read whatever I thought seemed interesting, so I feel like I'm missing out on stuff when not reading a lot of the stuff on the rec. chart like Saya no Uta
Yep, Masada is personally my favorite moege writer.
But really I haven't done any research into it, but it seems that SweetLight (http://vndb.org/p3082) is an offshoot from Light. They obviously have a fuckhuge budget so I expect good art from them at the least.
The game itself is just a good, solid moege so far. It has incredibly high production values and passable heroines, no real opinions on it other than that yet.
It's great. Good soundtrack, well-paced story, and an abominable loli.
The main reason I like it is the gray morality, though. I like the fact that different people read it and have different opinions about who was the villain in the story.
How could a proper human being side with Fuminori and Saya? One is completely insane and the other is a formless monstrosity whose only purpose is to spread the spores of abomination to turn Earth into a nightmare.
You don't have to agree with their actions to understand and sympathize with their motivations. If Saya is evil, then so are lions, snakes, tapeworms, and the ebola virus; but we as a society have moved past the primeval conception of a world strictly divided into 'good' and 'evil' and instead begun to understand that both predators and prey are morally neutral. In that ideological context, it's not difficult for someone to arrive at an understanding and uneasy acceptance of Fuminori and Saya as strong, well-written characters who simply act intelligently under the circumstances of who and what they are, even if they're ultimately causing harm to people.
If you think only one side of the argument is valid, then I would say you lack a certain intellectual development which would allow you to view the world from a detached viewpoint.
In other words, you're a ???.
