If you're building as much as possible from scratch (which you'd be doing in C anyway) then C++ will help you, because it offers gobs of features that let you build your own abstractions. However, if you're working in a team with other people, then C++ will hurt you, because you have to be draconian about the style of code everyone writes. Otherwise each programmer will know different parts of C++ (there are not many people who know the entire language because it's so fucking complicated) and they'll all build their own abstractions which are incompatible with each other. So C is better for working with other people's code, and C++ is better for being a godlike 1MA ninja rockstar who can singlehandedly backflip to the moon. Of course, there are no such people, so you should be rather wary of anyone who uses C++.

It's been a couple of days of 100% no dev because I'm getting ready for next semester. Worst of all, one of the classes I'm gonna have - graphical computation - is just C++ and OpenGL, no frameworks allowed I think. All this work just to learn shit any framework or game library does on its own.

So say I want to make my Skills data driven. I make a base Skill class like so:

I thought "games programming" at first but I was told it was a waste of time. Then I figured computer science but that seems so math heavy, and my last qualification in math was when I was doing my GCSEs.

Look at how we treat Unity devs, just for building scenes with drag-and-drop and editor UIs instead of laying out the exact same information in a text editor.

The solution, if you want it, is to figure out what kind of developer you want to see in AGDG, and then for you yourself to be that kind of dev so stubbornly that other people follow your example. So someone calls your game shit. Big deal! Give them more of it. Nobody plays your demo? Great, post another! Rub it in their faces that you're not going to be discouraged. Become the Japanese fisherman. Get confrontational about how much you're enjoying what you do. Be smug about how ineffectual anyone's attacks are.

Why? It's implemented in one of the the main libraries, developed and tested by lots of experienced programmers. Unless you have a specific thing in mind, that's not something you want to do.

Anyway, a linked or double linked list isn't that hard. A list is just a bunch of nodes, each one having a structure or object and a pointer to the next node. So each node points to the next one, except the last, which should point to nothing (null).
You'll usually define a struct/class for the list. It should only contain the first node, called the head of the list.

Anyway, there's hundreds of websites explaining linked lists in detail, just keep searching.

Fixed the inter-chunk bugs with the huge explosion algorithm to allow it to scale enough for any purpose.

I was trying to make one but I got bored.

It was a sidescroller where you gain followers and tell your followers to attack people. You gain followers by being "attacked," which means someone will start saying bad things about you. You tell your followers to attack them, and the people around them, and they'll start shouting them down with death threats and such until they leave. The final boss is another person with an army of followers and you need more followers than them.

Easy mode has you playing a girl and you gain followers faster and the final boss is a guy. Hard mode has you playing as a guy and no one cares if you get attacked and the final boss is a girl with shittons of followers.

That's just the 1 base loli sprite. All those recolourables are done at runtime based on the genetics of the lolis. It's only 1 asset. Of course there are going to be more assets later but I figure it is a better priority to get the core gameplay features done before I draw a billion different lolis/other assets. Progress!

+ Enemies now react in a parametric way to attacks. Each individual attack transmits its type to the enemy, which determines (currently) how far back and how high up to knock the enemy. Later on this will also adjust other data (how much damage to do, how much to scale the combo multiplier, and the type of reaction animation to play, as well as specialty functions like whether to carry the actor along with the weapon for a period of time during the attack).

+ We now have physics-based reactions to hits. This is placeholder for the time being (later on I will include some core hit reaction animations and the physics will blend gently with it for variety, except in cases of enemy death), but it does demonstrate the enemy's ability to determine where it was hit and react accordingly (though at present it does nothing but sort of wiggle).

+ Sticky friction is a go! One of the attack parameters determines "stickniess" which adjusts how long the MC and enemy will pause mid-attack when it connects.

- Unfortunately, my current particle system set-up doesn't understand the player time dilation value is being changed, which causes the system to think that weapon trails aren't moving (which, in fairness, they technically aren't, as the player is paused), which makes it stop rendering them (or rather, it continues rendering them, but it renders them across the same space since the sockets aren't moving). I'll have to find a way to freeze the particle trails or something, I dunno.

That really depends on what art style you're going for and how you render your assets. If you're using 3D models, for example, resolution doesn't matter. If you're using pixel art, you need to do some shit with the aspect ratio and calculate the scale of your sprites based on the size of the user's screen. Or you could get Unity Pro and use a screen effect to scale everything up.

It's literally impossible to do this.

This is, for what it's worth, the reason why (a) many games just render swords attached to the back with no scabbard, and (b) why nobody in real life ever carried a fucking large sword on their fucking back. Because if the blade is longer than the distance from shoulder to hand (and it is in my case), it is physically impossible to extend the sword up and out of the scabbard while still holding it. Your arm would stretch as far as it could and you would still have X inches of blade caught on the scabbard itself.

For my own part I gave absolutely zero fucks about this and simply designed the sword's anims so resheathing happened fast enough that you couldn't see the clipping occur. The alternative would be shrinking the weapon itself and that's not gonna happen.

I actually considered this, since Geralt does something similar in the first Witcher game (he unsheaths the sword by yanking on it to toss it out of the scabbard and then catches it)

The problem is it makes the resheath take a really long time to execute. As it is the resheath animation can be cancelled by simply walking, plus a bunch of other stuff, so it's actually even LESS realistic than it looks.

Plus, the weapon in question is a sword with a machinegun for a sheath, there are so many goddamn things wrong with it from a basic logical standpoint that anyone who would get all picky about the resheathing anims would have a goddamn aneurism just playing the game anyway.

tl;dr it's not that kind of game, anon. The limit of the willing suspension of disbelief regarding a thjnf is proportional to the awesomeness of the thing in question.
