>Ships Edition
This pleases me
Second for gaijin logic.
What planes are getting FM changes in 1.43?
>>78396313
>I think the first step toward naval forces is those extended Missions gaijin is promising. You know, where the mission can last hours with people coming and leaving.
If that's whats required in order for us few dedicated naval fags to have our dream near-autist levels of WWII naval gunnery and gameplay well then I'm all for it.
Now that I think about it, Arcade naval might be more so something like Battlestations Duel mode where you pit a certain class of ship against each other and duke it out for points and control of a map I suppose.
Unrealistic but it would make it fun and less time consuming for others as well.
Destroyer vs. Destroyer, Cruiser vs. Cruiser all those made for some good fun chaotic rounds in BSP
>tfw installing Nazi camos for all my burger and bong fighters
Nazi camos are just superior, man
>most ships travel at around 45km/h
>the average WT map is 64x64km.
oh boy get ready to sail for hours and shoot people that you can't even see
anime~!
Post aesthetically pleasing ships. I've always had a soft spot for Dido Class Cruisers.
>>78397281
>implying they won't make 5x5 km maps for ships so arcade babbys get to shoot at everyone and see lodsa splosions and shit
>>78397041
All WWII Royal Navy warships look aesthetically pleasing to me, its why I'm so hype that Gaijin is giving us naval forces.
These mighty vessels will sail once more.
>>78397513
>Royal Navy
>before 2020
>>78397434
the smallest naval map is the AB version of Peleliu (15x15km), that's still quite a lot of sailing.
>>78397427
Truly the last great era of British naval design.
Modern warships are effective but fugly.
>>78397427
>this beautiful ship will never be in War Thunder
Isn't it sad?
>>78397130
FM changes are usually announced when the preliminary patch notes are posted
>>78397427
>>78397846
>>78398006
Sucks we might not have any pre-dreads or pre-modernization WWI ships but its better than nothing.
Although I never heard it mentioned anywhere how far back Gaijin will go with ships, so if we do get them, I will be excite
>>78398284
That lowest stern turret is so useless now.
>tfw she is the only Tribal Class Destroyer left in existence
I can't think of any other ships apart from HMS Belfast, HMS Haida and USS Missouri that are still afloat.
>tfw going to be ready for the iL28 before the "coming soon )))" patch
not pictured are two player kills, one f6f and one p39
American pilots, amirite?
>>78398358
That ship in >>78398006 is a dreadnought by the way. It's The Viribus Unitis.
>>78398546
>I can't think of any other ships apart from HMS Belfast, HMS Haida and USS Missouri that are still afloat.
About 8 US Battleships including the Missouri.
Then a bunch more US ships and others-
http://www.hazegray.org/navhist/gun_ship.htm
The most recent addition is the Iowa, rusting away for years in Reserve Fleet Dock now turned into a museum.
>>78398604
What BR is the IL-28 going to be? Also will it have assraping defensive armament? I need to know if I will get free bomber kills in my Panther and Meteor since I can't kill Mig-15s and Canadairsinb4 the IL-28 is faster than me
I always have have split second of surprise remembering the FW190D-12 exists.
I bought the D-13 and then when you unlock the D-9 you can research the Ta 152.
Is there even a point in flying it now that it has the same BR as the TA 152?
>>78398620
Didn't know that, thanks
>>78398825
>8 US Battleships
Damn, I wish we kept more of our old warships afloat.
>tfw my city's namesake has been towed away to Turkey for scrap
>Seen action in the Falklands

Fucking bullshit, all she needed was a bit of a clean up.

>>78396451
new to this game and the ui is very confusing, quick question, what should I be spending my coins and on first ?
>>78399594
Britain is literally bankrupt though, how could they possibly maintain it?
I wonder if we are going to be able to name our ships.
On the kill feed and player list will it show
player (Queen Elizabeth-class)
or player H.M.S. Warspite (Queen Elizabeth-class)
Obviously more of a curiosity with Battleships and Battlecruisers since there were so few of them, for Destroyers and the like you won't be seeing many named duplicates but you certainly will with Battleships.
But since there are so few Battleships I think they're just going to go by configuration and name so you'll be seeing-
player HMS Warspite (BB)
player 2 HMS Warspite (BB)
player 3 HMS Warspite (BB)
player 4 HMS Sovereign (BB)
player 5 HMS Belfast (BB)
player 6 HMS Dicks (DE)
Or what have you
>>78398872
IL-28 should be going 800-900km/h and it has the 2x 23mm rear guns, 2x forward firing and 3000kg bomb load. I'd say 8.3 BR.
>>78399594
Poor Brits have a terrible record of treating their ships with respect and honor post-war.
Would have been nice if a few of these mighty vessels like Warspite were kept afterwards, as by today they would serve as poignant reminders of the strength and reach of the British Naval Empire.
>>78399905
was that style of RATO really effective and widespread, or are they just using the same model for every RATO using plane

>>78400923

What does this have to do honor and respect? It's still an inanimate chunk of metal. You won't hurt its feelings or anything by getting rid of it when it's of no use anymore.

"8 June, a group of RAF Hawker Typhoons attacked the 175th Infantry Regiment, 29th U.S. Infantry Division on the Isigny Highway, France, causing 24 casualties.[38]"
"7 August, a RAF Hawker Typhoon strafed a squad from 'F' Company/US 120th Infantry Regiment, near Hill 314, France, killing two men.[41] Around noon on the same day, RAF Hawker Typhoon of the 2TAF was called in to assist the US 823rd Tank Destroyer Battalion in stopping an attack by the 2nd SS Panzer Division between Sourdeval and Mortain but instead fired its rockets at two US 3-inch guns near L'Abbaye Blanche, killing one man and wounding several others even after the yellow smoke (which was to identify friendlies) was put out. Two hours later, an RAF Typhoon shot up the Service Company of the 120th Infantry Regiment, US 30th Division, causing several casualties, including Major James Bynum who was killed near Mortain. The officer who replaced him was strafed by another Typhoon a few minutes later and seriously wounded. Around the same time, a Hawker Typhoon attacked the Cannon Company of 120th Infantry Regiment, US 30th Division, near Mortain, killing 15 men.[41] An hour later, RAF Typhoons strafed 'B' Company/US 120th Infantry Regiment on Hill 285, killing a driver of a weapons carrier.[42]"

"8 August, near Mortain, France, RAF Hawker Typhoons attacked two Sherman tanks of 'C' Company, US 743rd Tank Battalion with rockets, killing 5 tank crewmen and wounding 10 soldiers. Later that day, two Shermans from 'A' Company, US 743rd Tank Battalion were destroyed and set ablaze by RAF Typhoons near Mortain. One tank crewman was killed and 12 others wounded.[45]
9 August, a RAF Hawker Typhoon strafed units of the British Columbia Regiment and the Algonquin Regiment, 4th Canadian Armoured Division, near Quesnay Wood during Operation Totalize, causing several casualties. Later that day, the same units were mistakenly fired upon by tanks and artillery of the 1st Polish Armoured Division, resulting in more casualties.
12 August, RAF Hawker Typhoons fired rockets at Shermans of 'A' Company, US 743rd Tank Battalion, near Mortain, France, causing damage to one tank and badly injuring 2 tank crewmen.[46]
13 August, 12 British soldiers of 'B' Company, 4th Wiltshires, 43rd Wessex Division, were killed and 25 others wounded when they were hit by rockets and machine gun attacks by RAF Typhoons near La Villette, Calvados, France.[47]"

"On 27 August, a minesweeping flotilla of Royal Navy ships came under fire. At about noon of the 27th, HMS Britomart, Salamander, Hussar and Jason came under rocket and cannon attacks by Hawker Typhoons of No. 263 Squadron RAF and No. 266 Squadron RAF. HMS Britomart and HMS Hussar took direct hits and were sunk. HMS Salamander had her stern blown off and sustained heavy damage. HMS Jason was raked by machine gun fire, killing and wounding several of her crew. Two of the accompanying trawlers were also hit. The total loss of life was 117 sailors killed and 153 wounded. The attack had continued despite the attempts by the ships to signal that they were friendly and radio requests by the commander of the aircraft for clarification of his target. In the aftermath the surviving sailors were told to keep quiet about the attack. "

The aftermath of RAF raids at this time were also seen by the Germans: "... The RAF had bombed their own troops, and with tracer flying in all directions, German units fired on each other. Jesus fucking christ was the later part of WWII a giant fucking mess of friendly fire?
And I still remember the endless news coverage during the 2003 War when a US soldier shot another in a FF incident on the battlefield.
Yet I never heard about all these FF incidents till right fucking now, jesus I never even heard of the Tempest and Typhoons till War Thunder really.
Is the only reason that there are no Hurricane and Spitfire friendly fire incidents because those were only mainly used in the defense of Britain until phased out by the others for general use over Europe?
Is there some magical force of nature by which BRs stop being retarded when they play jets? Whenever I see BRs in my team flying props they tend to act slav levels of retarded, but with jets it's like they suddenly learn the concepts of teamwork, communication, situational awareness, etc
>>78411864
Yes, and spitfires and hurricanes were mostly just used for air supremacy, typhoons were nice for ground attack since their cannons would rip halftracks to shreds so they would constantly be on the watch for vehicles. It would be hard to identify a vague moving convoy or camouflaged blob in the woods at high altitude
there were a million A-10 incidents in the middle eastern wars for the same reason, even with modern FLIR and nice camera imaging CAS pilots fuck up all the time

>>78411864
In the 2003 war the US probably suffered more losses from friendly fire than actual combat with the enemy. It doesn't make great news though.
Then and now. My guess would be that the RAF wasn't alone in the number of friendly personnel and assets it destroyed.
It's one of those things about war that people always leave out of the stories because it makes everyone sound like a retard.

If you join a game and fly around in a circle over over airfield and win you will get a few RP and a fair amount of SL. If you lose you get less RP and a few SL.
If you actually accomplish something useful like shooting at another plane or ground target you obviously also get stuff, it flashes on screen.

Weren't battleships rather useless by world war 2? It seems to me that outside of bombardment they were too slow to really keep up in fleet engagements and too large a target/costly to morale for risking them in most operations. It seems to me that cruisers usually did most of the workload that battleships were built for, and were much more resilient against carrier attack by being smaller and faster.at least that's what I get from playing WiTP:AA as japan, i'm too scared of sending my battleships out because american carriers are everywhere, fuck, go home waitu piggu

I mean, they served their purposes. Battleships were useful for shelling coastal positions, and at least in the case of American BBs, their anti-aircraft armament was pretty awesome.
But after the advent of the Aircraft Carrier, they became gigantic floating islands of steel carrying thousands of people that could be blown up by a few dozen planes (or even just one lucky one) being launched from hundreds of miles away.
It's a shame because they were badass, but for the cost in manpower, resources, and money they became less and less of a safe investment.
>>78425979
A sexy museum.
And the first battleship museum that will become a dry berth, since water damage and leaking is causing a list that forced her to be shut down, they decided the cost of repairing and constructing a new permanent dry berth is worth the cost of constant upkeep due to water intake.
It's going to be quite a unique museum. And will showcase the sheer size of the vessel better than any other.
I'm quite hype, although its sad she will never be in her natural element again.

Just like an iceberg yes, the public never really gets to see a view of a warship out of its element because that only happens in drydock so a museum like this will be really unique for a ship this size.
>>78428167
Theres something part satisfying and part sad about seeing a ship out of water like that. On the one hand it just got easier to handle as a museum and could allow more access to the public, and yet on the other it is forever out of its element.

That'd be the Prinz Eugen, the Lucky Ship of the fleet. She had many close encounters with fate, but in the end it took a fucking Nuke to kill her, and even the it was because she was too irradiated to be worth shoring up and pumping the leaks.
She was reasonably close to the center too, IIRC.
She was a beautiful ship too, looking very much like a smaller version of the Bismarck and Tirpitz. And today, she rests in a shallow water grave, part of her still sticking up above the surface. Just type in "Prinz Eugen" into google and hit maps and it'll show you a neat satellite view of her.

>Jesus fucking christ was the later part of WWII a giant fucking mess of friendly fire?
Yup.
Funny story time. Did you know James Doohan, aka Scotty from Star Trek, served in WW2 as a member of the Royal Canadian Artillery Regiment? (Yes, "Scotty" was a Canadian). Doohan first saw combat as a commissioned Lieutenant during the D-day landings. He lead his unit through the beaches and reportedly shot two snipers himself while leading his troops to higher ground and then through an anti-tank minefield.
That very night while moving from one camp to another to deliver a report, he was repeatedly shot by a fellow Canadian when the man, on guard duty, got spooked in the dark and fired on him with his BAR. Doohan suffered 6 hits, four hit his leg, one hit him in the chest (and was partially stopped by a cigarette case! How cliche!) and one bullet destroyed his right middle finger to the point it had to be amputated.
Thats right Scotty had only 9 fingers. He always went to great lengths to conceal it during his acting career, but if you know to look for it, you can spot it from time to time.
But yeah, Friendly Fire is a tragically all too common occurrence in any war. To quote Murphey's law "Friendly fire ISN'T".

Depends on the bomb. If it penetrates into the ground, then explodes after a delay, the force of the explosion is directed entirely upwards. There were the reports of crews on Henderson Field where Vals would drop 1000 lb naval bombs on them and they'd land only a couple meters away, explode, and they'd be unharmed. And those weren't even crews in sheltered pillboxes.

How to fight IS-2 in a Tiger I guys?
Like I really seem to have trouble even penning his armour while he on the other hand seems to easily kill me.
>>78460149
The 122 mm gun can penetrate up to 210 mm of armor (10 mm). So at any distance he can penetrate you. You however can only penetrate him at short-medium ranges so close in that distance.
The IS-2's biggest flaw is the depression, try getting him at that.

>>78443769
I do believe it's made of softer metal to reduce the chance of the shell shattering upon impact with the tank due to tremendous forces, and sometimes to increase aerodynamic properties of the shell. It absorbs a part of the impact force basically.
>>78462053
>how's the 190 D9

BoB/British Training ground level, its the best fucking map in game.
Would be lovely to see ground forces level around here, British tanks holding of German tanks at Dover or the like.
Oh god I'm imagining now a combined arms gamemode/map with all planes, tanks/vehicles and ships player controlled, Operation : Sea Lion, either you push back the Germans in the air and naval sections or you have to defend Britain with tanks as well once the Germans make landings...

>>78486446
WEPs shorter than 109 and holds heat after that. Maybe map has something to do with it., I remember my Havoc having absolutely no performance on Malta and heating up like a motherfucker.
The fuck is up with the Mig-15's energy retention it just seems to pull whatever manoeuvres it likes without having to worry about stalling.
>>78487101
Won war should have.
>>78487101Blame Rolls-Royce?
>>78487101
That's because of the MiG-15's insane t:w ratio for its time.
The Venom should be able to do similar manoeuvres, except at lower speeds due to its straight wings.
>>78487474
>The Venom should be able to do similar manoeuvres
>Implying its not going to go the same way as the Vampire
>>78487082
Map does have something to do with it. Malta and Sicily are good examples of maps where WEP is less useful.
>>78485781
Because it's actually not capable of carrying German teams. It's straight up boned if the enemy gets energy parity and has any competence.

I get this, bombers should be used in some kind of special occasion where there is a bunch of them and cannons do damage, where a escort would be important. The way the game works is for balance purpose, a bomber needs to absorb waaay more damage than they should, which leads to annoying situations of hive mind overpowered things. I'm not saying remove them, people enjoy bombing, but at least they have to do some sort of event or play style that make them more viable.

How do the Griffons compare to the IX? More speed and more dakka should be good but with Gaijin you never know.

They only get better, and the gradual BR increase isn't enough to offset their superiority. The repair costs are high but you'll never get hit anyway.

>>78496837
>sea jesus
Is that what they call the Sea Meteor these days?
I had the Sea Meteor long before they introduced the XIV and 22/24. I feel like getting them Griffons but I should also start grinding towards the Vampire to get the Venom when they add it.
>>78493626

>>78497157
LF, the good one
>>78497334
alright thanks
on a slight aside is the premo FW D13 any good i got a bunch of lions saved up from events and i want a german premium
So /wtg/
How terrible are German jets before the Canadair/Krautfagot? And Slav jets before the MiG-15?
Also is it worth it grinding the Meteor F4 and F8 or should I forget about those and go for Vampire and Venom? The Sea Meteor is fairly decent these days
I wish they did another event where we win free premium planes
In the last one I played a fuckton of arcade games with muh Beaufighter VIc and it was fun as fuck, that plane was untouchable back in the day. Also I kinda regret going for the premium Typhoon, I've never liked it nor been able to do anything good with it.
Then again going for the 190 D-13 wouldn't have been as easy or fun

>>78499109
I've got the A-26, the Nazibolt, and a medallion on the IL-2, but I really need something for grinding in British and Jap trees. Was considering getting the Jap Hellcat but it just seems kind of boring.
>>78499187
that's probably what I'll end up doing if there isn't anything new in 1.43 that's worth it.

The Sea Meteor is essentially the end of that line right now F4s, and f8 just can't compete against what they face, and the Venom should be superior to the meteors in pretty much all respects, so yeah your best bet is to for the vampire/venom as long as Gaijin don't fuck up its FM.
