Spinning out of control Edition
_____

Note: the general consensus at /kspg/ is that you should torrent the game, rather than purchasing it. The developer, Squad, is incompetent, extremely mismanaged, and is very resistant to all feedback or criticism. Furthermore, the game itself is poorly made, lacks a proper development team, and is in need of a serious physics and optimization overhaul, something that Squad is likely never to give it. In fact, we at /kspg/ believe that they are planning on abandoning development of the game altogether at some point within the next year. They do not deserve your shekels.

I'm aware of that, but I'm not even going fucking fast and the planes literally rip themselves apart. It's not even that complicated of a plane.

it's this without the VTOL thrusters.

>>76756074
You're pulling too much g's. 6-7 is enough to destroy it.
>>
>>76756074
Fast by real-life standards or fast by KSP standards?
Because fast by KSP standards is probably something like mach 0.5-1
>>
>>76756186
>>76756132

Guess fucking so. Far lets things go WAY faster than the vanilla soupy atmosphere. I can get to the maximum "safe" speed of 170-200 m/s with like 8% engine power.

that's kind of a ballache. what's the point of having engines even go fast?
>>
>>76756449
Only go at sanic speeds when you're real high up, or if you go fast when you're low, turn real slowly
>>
>>76756449
There's a reason that really fast jets and such fly very high.

It's not FAR. Look at this shitty plane. It can go over mach 4.5, I stopped because of heat. In real life, top speed is limited by engines. In KSP, turbojet engine never loses thrust with speed. Basic jet engine does that though

To let the Russkies get to it, and then to let them get butthurt over the sanctions and eventually take their ball and go home.

The Yuropoors have their launching facilities over in French Guiana, the Mericans have their launching facilities at Cape Canaveral, Vandenberg, Spay Sex Texas, and that one in Virginia. The Japs have theirs over in Kagoshima, which is more south than Vandenberg.

In all practicality if the ISS had excluded those traitorous Russians from the beginning, it could have been placed at 32 degrees inclination. 38 if you absolutely had to have Wallops. It would have allowed heavier launches and more modules for the same amount of fuel so far spent, theoretically.

I'm excluding China's launch facilities not only because they're more south than Kagoshima but also because the US has their panties perpetually in a bunch over the Chinese space program.

The flight dynamics of things in the atmosphere are hilariously awful, I wouldn't even bother with a spaceplane. You want the center of lift near but ahead of the center of mass, otherwise you won't ever get off the runway (not that you probably will anyway since the aerodynamics are so shit).

>>76804154
Hmm, sure. I get to HQ (10:00 AM, 10:10 if I'm late), say hi to everyone. Sit down at my desk and respond to all the emails I got overnight. Deal with them as necessary, sometimes its legal stuff, sometimes its PR stuff (of which I still do quite a bit). After that I talk to Rows about the social media stuff and how the official community is doing, then I do my offsite community sweep and start drinking my coffee (this is usually 11:00AM), then I compare notes with Lalo our PM and start talking one on one with everyone to check progress and offer suggestions (actually managed to cut almost two weeks worth of dev time by suggesting something to Harv last week). This goes on until Lunch time (2:00PM), we get an hour for lunch but I'm usually done in 15 minutes and then I just mess around or the internet, hang out with the team, play games til 3:00PM, after that I usually spend half an hour talking to management and marketing about anything that needs their attention, then the next three hours I it's more producer stuff, talking QA plans with Ted, art with Dan, design with Harv, etc. Then it's 5 minutes til the day's over so I play something with the guys.

Could you point me to the moment where I say it in the interview? I can't really remember most of what I said in the interview.

>>76805349
I'm kinda flattered by the idea where even before I was producer I had the pull and weight to flat out cut features. I think it's way too early to say impact and legacy. So far I've helped broaden our communities and media attention as PR manager, as producer I'm just starting.
>>
>>76805887

They probably cut resources before he was hired, and just kept it quiet.

Nope, design at that level was something I just had a voice in but its still not really my call at any level. I have more say in stuff now but it's still Harv's game.

>>76806830
Work was still going on them when I got hired. Slowing down and growing less and less optimistic but still there.

>>76806936
He wasn't crying but letting people know resources were not happening was so not easy for him.

"For some reason some people like to think Kerbals are sloppy engineers only capable of producing inherently broken designs held together by duct tape. To them, proposing something prim and proper like a NASA VAB could be built by Kerbals is ridiculous."

No real comment on the turnover rate since everyone at the office has been involved in the project since the beginning, but I will say C7 and Artyom are excellent guys found new stuff to do.

Cause we moved Dan and Roy over to it and its working out great, even if it means no animation for 0.25.
>>
>>76807053
how do you feel about legacy mods that were lost when spaceport was scrapped?

what are some examples of uses of the word "kerbal" that you're likely to enforce your trademark for?

did you ask the subreddit to change it to "space frogs" ?
>>
>>76807819
>even if it means no animation for 0.25.
That seems like a more than fair trade, assuming the two of them are capable of producing game-optimised assets that fit the stock aesthetic. I can see Dan being able to fit the look easily enough since he's defined part of it, but whether he can create something suitable for real-time rendering as opposed to cinematics I'm curious about. And Roger we just have no idea about.

Can't be worse than Hugo, good God his work was bad.
>>
>>76807879
Not great :/ we still have the database and everything backed up but god if Spaceport's backend isnt the ugliest thing.

If people use it commercially. Noncommercial is okay.

No, the mods love calling it space frog space program and I aint hating.

Dan is more than capable. They have their work cut out for them though. We're not ready to talk about the project they are on but they are effectively booked for nonstop 3D modelling work til December. And no its not female models.

Hugo did great work for the poly budget he was set for and being a 4th semester student. His new work's even better, I'll see if we can showcase his new MK3 stuff tomorrow.

>>76808280

That's a relief. For the record, I recently used a tech tree editor and tried a configuration that made me make aircraft before spaceships. I'm not demanding it be one way or another but a certain amount of flexibility in the tech tree would really make career much more engrossing.

I like the idea of being able to buy individual parts with funds/science, perhaps at slightly inflated price.

I think Science would make much more sense if the tech tree were loosened up a bit. My 2¢

Crockpots are cheap and easy ways to make meals. Perfect for college. Trust me on this.

I took a picture of the Moon with my 300mm lens on my camera, measured its average diameter in pixels, found the average angular diameter of the Moon at the time I took the picture (from an LRO video), and calculated that my lens has a resolution of 4.62 arcseconds per pixel, and to distinguish two objects they need to be 9-15 arcseconds apart.

Theoretically, if I take a picture of Jupiter, it should be about 6-11 pixels in diameter, while the Galilean Moons should be up to 130 pixels away at the most.

Interestingly, the theoretical maximum angular resolution of a lens with its diameter (58mm I think) is about 2-4 times greater than I'm achieving, so I'm happy with the lens.

Too bad that Jupiter isn't easily visible in the night sky for a few more months, although I could take some meaningful images of Mars, Venus, and Saturn. The ISS moves too fast for me to make any meaningful images of it without a better and more stable tripod. The ISS would be up to 13 pixels wide.

I have two words Anon. They will change your life as soon as you experience it.

Kidney Stones

You will never feel pain like that. Guess what causes them? Hint: It's high intake of sodas and juice among other things.

>>76816660

Thanks for stopping by, have a burrito on us tomorrow.
>>
>>76816660
Will crew transfer let you transfer kerbals through structural parts? I hope not.
>>
>>76816574
>I just, really hate water, I don't even want to drink it, I don't like the taste at all.
I have sensitive taste that makes even pure water without minerals and stuff taste kind of bitter.
I still drink it
>>
>>76816660
nevermind. you have content creators and a potential controlled marketplace, it doesn't take a genius to see the connection.

Just be careful how you treat the modders, they're the real lifeblood of the game. And nobody's really singing curse's praises right now. But yeah, thanks for the candid answers. A trip would help.
>>

If it was done properly there would be a line added to part configs ("crewTransfer = True") just like there is "fuelCrossFeed = False" for structural parts.
>>
>>76816951

Yeah, just filter it. If that doesn't work, use some of those water flavor things they sell sparingly until you get to where you can drink it. I have a large mason jar I keep full of water in the fridge at all times if I ever get thirsty. If your piss isn't clear, drink more.

>>76817093

Elon Musk's SpaceX sued for labor violations

http://money.cnn.com/2014/08/13/news/companies/spacex-lawsuits/index.html?hpt=hp_t2

>Elon Musk's SpaceX, the private space launch provider, is being sued by former employees who say they weren't allowed to take breaks, weren't paid overtime, and that the company failed to give them enough warning before a big round of layoffs.

depending on how much you played it shouldnt take very long to get up to tier 6-7 when you learn the basics and find tanks you like
the regular MM is +2, as in most tanks will get into battles where its tier is top tier, its tier is middle tier, and its tier is bottom tier on regularly 1/3 each due to the lower but still playable NA server population as compared to EU's (which also deals with an equally terrible player base, this time with 0 chance of communication with them due to language barriers)
Tiger 2 stock grind is terrible from what I understand (I'm still on the tiger and its just not fun to play having to sidescrape everything and get engine damage and fires constantly)

luckily its not really pay2win, its pay2grindless with tons of shitty tanks in the game for the sole purpose of making you want to buy gold to convert free exp to jump past them

so long as you dont try to get competitive and play with a billy mindset you can have fun, otherwise you start hating everything
>>
>>76826776
Even if you like it, don't buy it. You read the OP.
>>
>>76826776
You want to launch both up and to the right.

Make an overkill rocket. Launch it and point straight until you're 10km up. Then start turning until you're at about 45 degrees rightward at 25km (or something, I stopped playing ages ago).

Press 't' to turn on the sort-of autopilot. Press 'm' to view the map. When the peak of your trajectory is at 100km press 'x' to stop the rockets. Check the map screen often until your rocket is near 100km. Then turn completely horizontal (still facing the same rightward direction) and hold shift to bring your thrusters back up. Wait until your orbit looks like a circle.

This all gets boring and routine very fast so I really suggest you find a game that will disappoint you less. Please don't give the devs money.

It means god knows what
Look at output_log.txt, and look at the bottom, just above the flood of "C:\Windows\system32\etc"
If it reliably says the same thing, like FAR was doing something and the game crashed immediately afterwards, then FAR is the problem
If there's no consistency at all, then it's either unity not us :^) or it went over the 4gb limit because you're a retard that isn't running the 64 bit version, you're an even bigger retard and don't own a 64 bit computer, or you're somehow an even bigger retard and are still running 0.23.5
I know there's one anon here doing that, god knows why

I've tried running the 64-bit person, I'm one of the people it unconditionally crashes for, even when I run it without mods. Gosh darn those Unity devs to heck, huh?

I thought it was bad enough when Scansat decided that they needed to help spread Majiir's spyware, but now I find out that FAR is also doing this shit. Why the fuck would Squad let him distribute an _opt-out_ plugin?
>>
>>76848887

You can't even view the statistics right now. :/
>>
>>76848887
His plugin is actually illegal to distribute to such upstanding privacy-respecting countries as the EU, Norway, Russia, Mexico, China, Japan and the State of California.
Just because it's opt-out rather than opt-in. Squad and modmakers who help him spread this thing could get in serious trouble. Squad for letting them host their download links on their forum, and the modmakers for simply breaking privacy protection laws.
>>
is the 64bit version so bug ridden as they say?
Should i bother trying it or should i stick with the 32bit install?
>>
>>76849481
Try to use it. If it works, great, enjoy your mods. Most of the people who try it it works half for. That is, it works just as well as 32-bit, including crashing if you exceed the memory limit because :^). For the rest of the people it doesn't work at all.

Give it a try, though. There's a chance you'll be able to use KW and B9 at the same time without having to resort to aggressive ATM making the textures blurrier than Mario64.
>>
>>76849576
I'm quite an illiterate when it comes to programming, but wasn't the 64bit made for the purpose of using more than the 4gm of ram the 32bit uses?
If not, what's the point of using a 64bit version?

I just wanted to enjoy the game with some mods without using aggressive texture reducing solutions
>>
>>76849893
That's the main purpose of 64-bit, yes. And for some people Windows 64-bit works like Linux 64-bit, letting them install a lot more mods. But for most of the people I've heard from, Windows 64-bit still has a memory limit for some reason. It can probably be blamed on Squad.
>>
>>76850012
Well...i'll give it a try
I just hope to see bugs with just a couple of mins of test play. It would be very annoying to install all the mods, wait the 3hours it will take to load and then end up with a ton of bugs that weren't there at the beginning

Wish me luck

Three minutes till the hour is up. I'm posting the writeup below this. Interested in hearing if anyone has points they'd like to add or revise.

I’ve been playing KSP for two years. I’m deeply in love with the idea behind the game and have more than extracted an equivalent value considering what I paid for it.

I’m not posting as a disappointed customer, but instead a concerned fan who has watched the amazing progress this game has made shrivel to meager updates once every three months.

Feel free to call me “entitled” and to point out that “I’ve never made a game so I wouldn’t know” but that doesn’t change the fact that I am allowed to voice my opinion and proffer criticism, welcome or not.

That being said, my only criticism is that the game has gone from being a revolutionary space sim to Maxmaps’ personal PR campaign. It’s [obvious](http://i.imgur.com/QqJT0Ix.jpg) that [he](http://media.tumblr.com/69fea589eb8e94d8b9dffb205f4429f4/tumblr_inline_n98qjxPlrm1rr2wit.jpg) wants [to funnel the KSP fanbase](https://twitter.com/Maxmaps/status/491959369878482946) through his social channels and acquire more followers.

The shift in the game’s direction mirrors Max’s joining of the company. His promotion to producer exemplifies upper management’s agreement with the direction he’s taking the game.

It’s not too late to let them know how we feel. But with each passing moment more features are cut and more bad game design decisions get implemented.

KSP is NOT Max’s personal PR vehicle. It is an open world sandbox that allows for experimentation with aeronautic and planetary exploration. Many of the past updates, while claiming to “expand” the game, have simply placed it within arbitrary containers. Science Mode, Career Mode, are both limiting in their application and of no use to the sandbox player of the game.

I’m not “quitting” or “full of hatred,” but I have been disappointed, watching this transition has been like nails on a chalkboard, again, not as a paying customer, but as a dreamer and lover of space.
(1/2)
>>
>>76857497

That being said, Max went on to a specific KSP 4chan thread last night and verified himself through twitter. He then spent the next few hours discussing the future of the game, and revealed details of the admin building only 24 hours after insisting the devs not do so in their notes.

I’ve archived the thread [here](http://4archive.org/vg/thread/76749587#p76803442), with the verification post linked, but here are the details:

• Max said he feels “not great” about the number of legacy mods that were deleted when spaceport went offline, but says “we still have the database and everything backed up”
• He may showcase Hugo’s mk3 model on Thursday.
• He says they’re “not even close” to 1.0 but that they “want to shake the early access thing something fierce’
• He claims they’re aiming for a “shorter time frame” than they had for .24
• “Kerbal Experience as a whole is part of the plan. I'd like it to be at t[he] extent [of adding stock mechjeb], so we'll see.”
• They’re “working on a full fledged difficulty panel.”
• They’re “currently looking at +/- %sliders for all 3 currencies, will see if we can also squeeze in stuff like reentry or acceleration damage so the G meter has more of a meaning.”
• For difficulty, they want “it [to] be entirely modular, so you can just crank everything on to the hardest possible if you want.”
• Regarding the nonsensicality of contracts’ text, he says they “thought it was funny, basically”
• He’s not sure exactly how crew transfer will function but likes the idea of adding a (“crewtransfer”)config to parts.
• Max misses Bac9 too.

On the off chance any of you still care, that's from a University of Texas game a few years back, maybe their National Championship attempt. The player just ran a touchdown and was appearing to be close to running into that officer. Usually it's photographers there and they'll jump out of the line of fire or get hit on occasion, it's part of the job. Brother Marine there clearly didn't feel he or the officer should move so he stepped over and told the player his program was shit which it is or something. The player goes "Fuck this" and awkwardly walks away and the cop can be seen grinning behind the marine. Nothing of real note. I've got a good one of an Alabama player doing a German Suplex on another player during a game somewhere.

All you end up doing is shooting ourselves in the foot. If you want to post something like that, go to SA or something that has a community for KSP that Squad doesn't control. I linked that pic to an anon on steam because we were discussing stuff relevant to it and it unsurprisingly ended up in the thread. Seriously, try to find it somewhere else.

Me tweeting pics from Harv was just a cool moment at the office I wanted to share. The tumblr announcement thing is actually intended though. As the producer I'm supposed to be more visible for press and the like since I now have access to more info and influence over the plan, I can decide what we reveal and when now, instead of having to wait to have everything greenlit.

Because very simply put, people walking around with guns makes societies more dangerous, not more safe

Again, per capita. Even then, you have more thugs because you have a more violent culture partly because you have a much more permissive attitude towards guns and an entirely non-existing attitude towards mental health care and rehabilitation (as opposed to locking people away until the next time they commit a crime and rinse and repeat)

No, you need to build a more peaceful society, which does not involve giving everyone firearms. The idea that if everyone had guns there would be no violence is so unbelievably stupid. Northern Europe is many, many times safer than the United States.
>>
>>76868291
You don't in most cases, but that's besides the point. You have the right to have one if you want.
>>
>>76867687
>Because very simply put, people walking around with guns makes societies more dangerous, not more safe
suppose a thug walks into a store full of armed citizens
The thug pulls out the gun and shoots the clerk, a nearby citizens pulls his gun and puts down the thug.
Deaths will only be 2.
Suppose there's another scenario where the store is a gun free zone.
The thug shoots the clerk and starts shooting the witnesses.
The death count would be significantly higher
>>
>>76868759
That's a fantasy scenario that is so incredibly rare and it pales in comparison to the great number of actual situations where use of a firearm result in deaths and where your mass conceal carry delusions wouldn't help the victims
>>
>>76868759
Scandinavia is for all practical purposes entirely gun-free, and their stores seem to lack massacres like that entirely. Strange, huh.
>>
>>76868082
Look at Japan, guns are pretty much impossible to get there, and yet it has one of the highest suicide rates in the world, almost twice as high as the US rate.

>>76868414
Northern Europe is peaceful because everyone is white, it has nothing to do with guns.
>>
>>76868414

>>76868987
No, it's because Scandinavia is majority white.

>>76869162
>>
>>76869047
Okay, so what? They'd have a much higher suicide rate if they had guns because where there are more guns there are more gun suicides. I'm not ignoring cultural differences, you are ignoring logical reasoning.

>Northern Europe is peaceful because everyone is white
Woah, you are dangerously off message here /poltard/, quick, post Captain Sweden!

>it has nothing to do with guns
Literally has everything to do with guns

>>76869160
Except for the fact that it is factually accurate to assert that Northern Europe is more peaceful than the United States. Your more permissive attitude towards firearms is very much to blame.

Here, I'll give you retards another example. Police officers in the UK do not carry firearms, while in the United States, many police officers carry assault rifles in their vehicles.

In the eleven year period between 2001 to 2011 there were 3 police officers killed by firearms. You'd expect there to be 15 American police officers killed in the same period, right? Maybe a few more.

In 2012 alone, 127 federal, state and local officers were killed in the line of duty.

Nope. That's privatised in both places. The free market would automatically adjust the funding level.

Well you could just move away from them and your need for self defense drops dramatically. If for some reason you're white and have to live near niggers well you'd better at least have a gun in your home just in case.

No, that graph only shows that England and Wales reported more assault cases than the United States per capita. It doesn't show you that the laws on assault differ greatly for instance, or that just generally the data collection is different. Sociologists tend to look at violent deaths as an indicator of safer vs less safe socities for a reason.

Liquid fuel engines and tanks, KSP standard. Not retarded, but not cheaty either.

Depends on whether you want them balanced sensibly or in line with stock.
Stock engines are completely retarded since the last batch of buffs.

Realism overhaul is pretty balanced, seriously.
>>
>>76876589
LFO tanks are 11.111111% dry mass. As long as you stick to that you'll be fine. Engines are a bit different since there are more variables (ISP, thrust, mass and gimbal range).

>>76877735
Honestly, I don't expect them to know every mod and what it does off-hand. Especially something like CLS which isn't being regularly updated anymore, is barely mentioned by the mods that do have configs for it, and only has a couple of mods that actually make use of its functionality. It's just not visible enough.

Hence why I said they should go look at the big categorized list of mods with summaries
