Invention 101: Podcast

Jargon
>Disassembly
Taking shit and breaking down into invention materials

Parts and Components. Parts are used for small things, Components for less common large more powerful items.

Items you make with materials. Mecha-Chinchompa etc.

can put them on weapons to make them better

Things like the Warpriest set effects are similar to perks. x% bonus to damage against monster, some silly, not all perks are positive, etc.
>Inspiration
Before you can make some more complicated items you need to "discover" it first. Inspiration is spent unlocking these items. Found doing everyday tasks and leveling the Invention skill.

Where to start invention?
>North of Fally Lodestone, Inventors guild. Small tutorial there.

How do you train invention?
>NOT by purely disassembling items. That would be like cleaning herbs all the way to 99.
>Big chunks of xp making devices and other items.
>Uses Make X like Smithing, Crafting, etc.

Making Gizmos
>Making gizmos provides good xp. Each augment as slots for 5 parts/components.
>xp for gizmos is based off of the rarity of materials and how many you use.
>you're shown a list of potential perks that gizmo will possess (based off of the materials used) and when you make it the final ones will be chosen randomly from that list.

Augmented equipment gains levels and the perks increase as you use them in combat (Max level 10). Weapons that are leveled up provide a lot of invention xp if you decide to disassemble them. If you don't want to disassemble them you can build an item that extracts some of the built up Invention xp from them and leaving it in tact.

Specialization
>Start with the "basic" tech tree
>When you reach a higher level you can choose which tech tree you want to specialize in (Dwarven or Goblin)
>Eventually you'll unlock everything. You just choose what you get first.

You get 100% accuracy if you use t90 and every accuracy boost in the game including scrimshaw, void, nihil, etc, but that means 1/2 damage because there is no t90 spear.

All of those with a chaotic spear gives around 90% accuracy, which you can improve to about 95+ with Quake. Unless you cheese with something like Statius Hammer spec or use Berserker aura, you won't get 100% with a chaotic spear.

Hunting grenwalls with crystalize is easy and quick xp once you get the hang of it. If you'd rather afk then protean traps is good xp/afk

Thieving is quick and pretty afk once you can boost to dwarf traders.

They enhance your performance. For efficiency you want enhanced bonuses at all times, but the only bosses that "require" overloads are the ones that constantly drain your stats, which is pretty much just Nex.

You can GWD, Corp, QBD, Spider, Vorago, even raid without overloads. Of course you should use overloads and most teams don't want to take a slacker, but their content doesn't actually "require" that you always have maxed bonuses.

Players wanted progression from the beginning.Unless someone had a specialized account, they wanted the slayer level to do the best things, they wanted the combat levels to fight the strongest bosses, they wanted the best skills to do X high level activity, even for something like a fun pvp activity, they wanted to be as strong as possible.

People wouldn't have been doing mid level content that was inefficient. That's how it has always been. You had some people doing things for fun, but most people flocked to the highest options possible. The difference now is it's much easier to reach the high end content and the difference between "shit" and "good" content's efficiency is greater than before.

It's a waste of their money to pay a developer to spend dozens of hours designing and testing content from levels 1-80 when a majority of Runescape's playerbase is going to blast through it immediately on the first few days and never touch it again.

Slayer has always been one of the most popular skills in the game, and generally one of the highest stats a player would have that wasn't directly a combat skill, because you trained it for just for training combat.

They didn't "stop," the road was just longer. If slayer wasn't originally capped at around 30k an hour and had higher rates more suitable for children in grade school to not get bored, the stat would have been even higher on average. If you want to talk about what "most" people had it was a few combat skills and a small spattering of other skills. People with high end stats in ANY skill were a minority, because combat was more popular and more profitable. The game was sculpted by that and the difference became greater and greater.

Everyone wants combat. Combat content is popular. Fewer people do skilling. Skilling content is less popular unless overpowered. That means if Jagex wants to make "popular" content they focus on combat and overpowered skilling. They get more encouragement to do it and continue doing it until it's as insane as it is now. It has always been this way, it has only become more extreme over time because the players keep approving it.
