>What is DUELYST?
DUELYST is a competitive strategy card game focused on tactical combat, squad building, and ranked ladder play.
>Play in Chrome
>Faction overview, guides and general information
Does anyone know what this actually is? The Key Hunts sound great, but I can't tell how it works at all.
Maybe I'm just fucking stupid
The links to the actual hunts go to a specific thread listing what the things are.
The masterthread is so stupid and vague that it's ridiculous.
I main Vanar and find the control deck to be shitty and clunky personally. It does what other control decks do, but much worse. If you're looking to get into Vanar play zoo Vespyr synergy with Jax Truesight Razorback finisher.
finally got this bitch out after 5-6 turns of my wraiths killing his shit from his turn
The problem is as you can see by my 54 attack that we were stuck in a loop of my wraiths killing whatever he spawned, more being summoned due to deathwatch, then him summoning more shit and being stuck in the corner longer.
>duelyst paying hearthshitters to stream their game
Actually a really good marketing strategy. Though it's odd, how does a company who had to kickstarter their game afford to get it shilled by le top streamers?
I foresee a bunch of shitters who haven't played a card game/strategy game before joining into Duelyst after seeing some shitstone player like Reynad thinking they will be good. Pretty much easy climbing in ranked.
You are completely wrong about the HS streamers tho? Also with Prophet of the White Palm and some other units, Vet (and Vanar if you like being a cunt) can cuck out aggroshitters quite nicely.
>i have only 2 random legendaries in my deck
>enemy plays 3 foxes and 3 scion third wish
why is fox allowed to exist in this game. i don't want it nerfed: the meme card design belongs to HS and this game is better left without it.
>Eh, the issue isn't in the card itself
it actually is. it's a neutral card that give you enormous body value and is not countered by dispel or removal.
at minumum it's a 4/5 and a 2/3 for 5 which is too good. but RNG can be manipulated to get better results ( for example a cost 2 card with a passive effect) or you can simply luck out and get the biggest threat you played in the game. it wouldn't even be fair to increase its cost or decrease its stats: it's a stupid card.
card outcome being random should be allowed only in moderate amounts and when it makes sense, random placement around a square for example is acceptable.
While I fully agree with you about Keeper of the Value, this is what we're referring to as "the fox".
I ccan only imagine myself playing zurael in lyonnar and abyssian. In lyonnar keeper is better because it fits their midgame style. In abyss it could be amazing, but abyss with big minions sucks and I think that zurael doesn't allow rush to activate iwhen you revive like keeper does, so I'd rather have a keeper.
There's one misplay I'll never forget
>be Vanar, go first
>drop some 2 drop with 3 health
>enemy drops sword of mechazor
>drop another 2 2-drops with 3 health, line them up perfectly
>enemy does questionmark emote
>you don't get the punish you deserve
Probably going to switch the Deers out, or at least reduce to 2, but I don't know anything else that would fit. Any ideas? Twilight sorcerer comes to mind but I don't know, it's not really a threat
I see tempest in S-rank. Hell, I see fucking Breath of the Unborn in S-rank.
No what's stupid is how a fucking 2-drop /requires/ tempest just to not instantly lose any chance at board control.
Greetings from Hearthstone.
I lurked this thread a bit about a month ago, and you guys said that Duelyst may not even survive through open beta, let alone ever have a competitive scene.
Since then almost (if not) every big hearthstone streamer plays and enjoys this game. I'm talking all the streamers who get 20,000+ viewers consistently, some lesser known great players and even Brian Kibbler who holds a lot of influence in card game communities.
So just wanted to ask, has your opinions on the life expectancy of this game changed at all?
Ah, my bad.
In that case it's fair that tempest kills him. Franky if they're going to keep nerfing board clears and keep global buffs like Razorback around they need to do something about Jax anyways. He had insane synergy with Third Wish back when it was a combo card and I think everyone dreaded the situation where he hits the board and you don't have a way to deal with the inevitable assrape burst you were about to receive.
This was with Tempest and Plasma Storm fucking /everywhere/
Now he still has the insane combo burst with Razorback but there's much fewer direct counters to him out on ladder. Of course the cards that dealt with him still deal with him in the same way, they're just much rarer. Vet's don't run Star's Fury all too often for the partial board clear. Magmar's both much rarer and running less Plasma Storm. Lyonar's much rarer and running less tempest. I guess I've seen more Breath of the Unborns but I'd hardly say that makes up for it. The only real saving grace is that Vanar seem to find it too slow or maybe they just haven't looked to run it yet because I see him very rarely.
I'm just worried about the future I guess as far as Jax is concerned. Vanar are already a menace on ladder. If they catch on that they can get even more potential damage out from a Razorback as Vets did with the old TW then we're all in for trouble.
I still worry about it sometimes since it doesn't cater to the casual crowd with the lack of a casual mode for questing and getting into the game. The devs placed a nice AI mode for newer players but coming from HS, I didn't see too much of a need for it.
I've tried to get some friends to play but very few of the actually stuck to it. Mainly the novelty of the board system wears off after a week or two and then they either only get on to do their daily quest or leave completely.
HS streamers are the reason why this game wont die within half a year. And HS only has 1 relevant aggro deck right now, and it's inconsistent and not even the best deck. Hunter is dead on ladder.
Once it was true. To be competitive in vetruvia, you needed mad skill, or 3x Aymara, 3x Third wish, 3x Star Fury, 3x Portal Guardian, and 3x Rasha's Curse. Now? Now you can get away with a single Rasha's curse, a triple Third Wish, and maaaybe, but just maaaaybe, a single Aymara.
Why aggro shitters wont simply go back to playing plebstone?
>you would be dead if this happened
>you would be dead if you didn't win
Man what a faggot
They went overboard with the health nerf. The best thing about portal guardian was the fact that it didn't die to 2 2drops and the general of you play it at 3 mana. Now it's a dead card.
I think just 0/7 would be fine. Still needs protecting while it can spiral out of control. Maybe it's asking for too much. I think most everyone's exaggerating how hard it was hit, though. Still playable. Just kinda too slow to make the cut.
Plus no Jax in Vet anymore for the free +5.
>Plus no Jax in Vet anymore for the free +5.
The main reason for which you played jax in vet was third wish, not portal guardian. This said, now that third wish in his old form is dead, jax got played less... which made portal guardian weaker.. which, added to the portal guardian nerf, killed him.
Well... Magmar is dead. Songhai is strong, Vanar is stronger than ever and is cheesy as fuck, thank to the new chromatic cold (which is mana burn with a new face) and the interaction between fenrir warmaster and keeper of the value (4/5 cc 5 opening gambit: summon one of your random non-token dead creature). Vetruvia is weaker than before but still strong, except now you don't make conga lines for the love of god. Lyonar is still strong, even though it was nerfed, because keeper of the value interact positively with incredibly strong, non-opening gambit minions, and holy immolation wasn't nerfed.
Abyssian still dead.
Abyssian is fine. Their aggro is very strong. The problem is, once again, that that's all they're good at.
People who like abyssian don't like them because of Nightsorrow Assassin smacking face. They want weenies and black control.
I just downloaded this today and I've played through all the tutorial missions so far pretty smoothly, and now I tried to make my own deck and test it out against the AI, but the game has been lagging extremely and skipping my turns and it just completely froze and d/c'd. What the fuck? Why the hell would it lag against the AI? Why is there even a turn time limit in practice mode?
>I started out playing Magmar
>trying to build a good deck as a beginner
because there was a time Magmar is Top Tier 1, strongest Meta. Now it's not, which is stupid, just like with Vetruvian (The most expensive one). And they still don't change the cost.
Deck strength shouldn't be tied to cost to make, same as card strength shouldn't be tied to rarity. The only thing rarity should be balanced around is gauntlet.
Unfortunately I don't think the devs seem to realize this. Unless Sarlac is THE GOD of gauntlet and I didn't know it.
>playing creep abyss
>have mini-jax and Juggernaut in play
>vet uses his turn to kill juggernaut instead of mini-j with his dervish. Summons E. Rejuv
>I Keeper of the Meme that Juggernaut and box the general in
>he kills KotV with a buff Rejuv
>Kill rejuv with juggernaut
>summon another Juggernaut and crawler
too bad that'll never happen again.
I can't compete on ladder anymore without Keepers. Every deck I face plays at least two and I just get out valued.
I'm just gonna do dailies until next season, when hopefully it will be balanced. ie. Removed.
>Chaos Elemental the only thing that has died the whole game
>Keeper of the Value into it 3 times
Does Abyssian have any key weakpoints? Keep getting rekt by the mass numbers of creeps as Vetruvian.
>"hey sorry to bother you but I'm 2-3 wins away from s rank can you concede"
Unless you can combo it with TW it doesn't give you any additional board presence since it'll just end up dying the turn you play it anyways
unless it's just to deal with a mini-jax I guess. Not to say it's bad it just didn't make the cut. A 6-mana 2-card combo is inconsistent to rely on, if only mildly so.
I actually just took out my Sarlacs and was considering adding them back in but I just bumped Chaos Ele back up to 3 and added in a Lightbender for all the Vet mirrors I've been getting. I might end up adding Tiger in again later.
I told him to earn it and he suicided into me
He's S-rank now though. I wonder if he earned it or not.
tfw double Maelstrom lethals
What's the point of a rank if you didn't earn it?
If he made it to rank 1 he can make it to 0. No charity events.
Those got nerfed but Vet's changed a lot either way. You need consistently sticky bodies to smack TW on. You won't really have the board presence to get good use of Wind Runner. Delayed +1/+1 on one or two creatures isn't going to cut it. Especially not when there's so much competition for the 3-slot now.
Chaos Elemental has raw stats and an effect that makes him obnoxious to take out. Saberspine has rush for emergency clears. Sand Howler has protection from Martyrdom and Hailstone as well as providing great protection against Songhai with a Cosmic Flesh slapped on. Sarlac is as sticky as you can get. Alcuin lets you recycle your spells. Even PG probably still has more use than Wind Runner right now.
If you want to consider 4-drops too as an all-encompasing "midgame" slot then outside of the obvious Rejuvinator, Twilight Sorc has a great body and a damn useful effect.
Too many things take priority over a 3/3 with a frankly mediocre effect.
Wind Runner was good because he re-activated PG which no one runs anymore and because he could push things out of Tempest/Plasma Storm range which aren't as threatening anymore. Against Vanar, Lyonar, Songhai, Abyssian, and Vet he doesn't do enough. Against Magmar Plasma Storm still blows him out.
So when are they going to add some black cards? You know, the power at a great risk type where you can basically lose yourself the game by playing it poorly.
More than community, I want to nurture people into getting gud. Why else would I text dump card analysis all the time?
If they can't get to S-rank on their own merits then they didn't deserve to get into S-rank.
Yeah he did. I told him to earn it at the very start too.
We used to hit bump limit all the time. After this patch it just all stopped completely.
I think we lost the goldie avatarfag at the same time too so he was probably half the posts or something.
It's something I guess. Defender doesn't look that good tbqh, lyonnar has superior ironcliffe. Perhaps vet with cosmic, he looks sticky at least.
Just started playing hi
Should I save up my Spirit for Lantern memes or should I make a cheaper deck? Already have Abyssian Burn deck and Im just looking for variety
Also is Red Synja worth keeping? Got two of them in a row
Very new player here. How long will the basic decks be suitable for climbing? I'm focusing on getting them all to 11 right now and the frog dude seems solid at bronze.
Also how many quests can you hold at once?
Cool thanks guys. Seems like if I'm ever going to play this game now's a good time to get on board to start amassing a collectiom before several expansions and whatnot
buy packs ( with daily gold)).
currently you make 100 gold/day by just doing quests and the draft mode is open only 2 days/week. it costs 150 and it also give gold. therefore you don't need to save up gold. buy packs, modify decks as you feel like it while bringing every faction to 11.
some starter decks are really shit if you don't change some cards
- vanar and lyonar are pretty easy to build and play at first without many rare cards; google for golem budget decks or abyssian rush decks if you want.
-unlike other card games here you draw 2.5 cards/turn: you can keep the average card costlow. fill the deck with 2-3-4 cost cards.
-silence is a really good ability. you will need to put 3x the 2/2 that silence on opening gambit in almost all decks until you have better cards.
-in high ranked matchmaking creatures with strong abilities overtime( example: "ranged" or "grow 4") get istantly removed with spells or countered by silence, so players prefer to have their big creature's special abilities to be an " opening gambit" one or to have strong stats so that they will be still useful when silenced.
in low ranked matchmaking removals are lacking(because players might still have to unlock them or they are rare/legendaries cards) therefore those cheesy big legendaries are more viable but you have to think about the 2/2 that silence. around rank 10 you'll start seeing a good amount of removals and you'll have to change playstyle.
-a typical good small creature has decent stats ( possibly more than 2 hp) and one effect that will be useful/guaranteed 80% of the times.
-some faction have comboes in them ( abyssian has deathwatch comboes, songhay sick istant backstab ones). it's costy to build a good deck around them and they mostly suck.don't waste your spirits in trying to make the a deathwatch combo deck
-if you don't use recycle 90% of the turns as the first action in your turn then it means you are playing the game wrong.
Awesome thanks for the advice mate.
I'm used to tapping first, drawing, etc in Hearthstone so the recycle thing is second nature. I haven't even started to opening all that many packs either. Maybe 4? Gonna spend the night grinding out heroes and completing challenges/quests.
Abyssian too. You have almost no hope against burn without 3 Rejuvs.
Hell, really any deck running 3 Rejuvs as well. You can't keep up with a control deck if they're packing 12 more HP than you are. Rejuvinator is a good body on top of its effect so there's not even a real downside to playing it. It's often the best tempo play to make, actually.
I understand its need against aggro (would 100% take over ladder without it around) but it's still a good creature in a vacuum
On the topic of flying creatures.
There was a card/board game called Scrolls that had flying creatures.
To make them worth it they were often statted as creatures of their normal cost, or slightly worse, but not hugely so.
Their downside to make Flying not OP as shit though, was that any turn in which they moved beyond their normal move distance (and as such flew) they gained an additional 1 on their count down.
In this game, it would be "When the creature flies it cannot attack." or something.
Would this make flying cards worth it for non-songhai decks?
Admittedly even in Scrolls no one bothered with flying creatures except for some gimmicky Growth decks that ran "Sister of the Owl."
Her text gave her an attack boost every time an owl (friendly or otherwise) attacked.
Owl being a 2 Resources 1/1 who attacked every turn (rare in Scrolls), and had Flying.
Does anyone know if it's worth it climbing the ladder for rewards or conceding after every win and farming "Shieldbearers" like in Hearthstone, if you only plan to do the dailies for a while?
Silver gets you the new monthly common and epic
Gold gets you silver + legend
Platinum gets you gold + rare
S-rank gets you plat + random legendary
All get gold/spirit though I couldn't tell you the amount.
I might be wrong about what silver/platinum get you and maybe silver gets you rare/epic and plat only nets you a common. I don't recall.
Decide for yourself what's worth it.
To gold is easy to get free monthly legendary.
However, Diamond to S is seriously try hard, without space to do daily quest. Some people don't care about the rank just the card. And they are gonna have a hard time with people like Droopy.
Silver is just the epic, can confirm since I started at the end of last month.
What the fuck, I can run it on browser but not through the launcher.
The season rewards looked so bright back then.
Then the next month was pure RNG cards. One of them was Jaxi.
This month is underwhelming as fuck save for Keeper breaking the fucking game. Epic is decent in aggro and mech decks too but that doesn't make up for Keeper.
of course he is. He's played more than you and me combined and he has fresh eyes to the game so he knows strats only a newbie can know that veterans gloss over. You wanna keep talking smack, little bitch?
God damn, I can't believe that shit. And I'm guessing he's like a popular twitcher and he'll spread his shitty ideas to other people and then make more shitters.
Wow, you guys weren't kidding, there isn't a female in the official art without greatly oversized lips.
Not that that's always bad, there are some french artists that make that shit work stupidly well, but this guy, not so much. Which is a shame, as his stuff is pretty nice, lips aside.
Eh he takes it too far IMO. This is the kind of thing I was talking about as "working", the artist is Bengal.
I just looked it up on the Forums.
Lips are best.
I just reached diamond after around 100 ranked wins including leveling up every class to 11 and daily quests, started playing a few days ago to escape HS. How hard is it to get the legend rank in this game? Can I get it with my now 5 epics or will I have to wait until I get a much more expensive deck to even compete like in RNGstone?
Playing Abyssian btw
>filled with face abyssians and face songhais
Well I sure hope so, they're an easy match-up for me (except when songhais draw perfectly). All I see is Lyonars right now and the game takes forever until they get to use Divine Bond or I can damage their face for a silly amount 3 turns in a row.
Dumber than rocks guy that probably stole his deck from the net with one change like usual. I don't get the respect that magic gets, it has a lot of strategies because it has been running for twenty years, nothing more.
I'm not saying he's a better player simply for having played Magic. I'm saying he should know from experience that Martyrdom is a powerful card when it's one of the most infamous removal spells in Magic.
>make a badly written rant yesterday at 1 AM complaining about new vetruvian
>there's two new threads saying the same thing, but with better explanations and less drunk login
You fuckers made it on purpose.
1st month >rank 10
2nd month >rank 3
3d month >rank 0
and now >I'm doing it again
Just like in HS, get your freebie stuff for doing trivial things.
Then try to make a budget songhai deck by browsing the forums. A legend rank songhai deck is somewhat expensive with legendarys and a lot of epics.
Do the challenges for gold
Get all factions to 11 for a free pack and likely quite a few hidden quests done
You're probably not knowledgeable enough to perform adequately in gauntlet (arena) just yet
Make Lantern Fox OTK and get S-rank in a day
Good, cheap cards to craft include Jaxi, Primus Fist, Emerald Rejuvinator, and Dancing Blades. Good basics include Healing Mystic, Saberspine Tiger, and Ephemeral Shroud
Decent tech cards include Crossbones and Lightbender
Started playing yesterday. I was the guy that got twin fang and paddo. Opened up another orb and this is what i got. Are the rates supposed to be like this or am i just lucky? Also, what are the core legendaries at the moment?
Your first 40 packs have a much higher legendary/epic rate than the rest of the game.
Later you get on average 1 good pack every four or five.
Anyway, Arclyte Regalia is considered 100% necessary for any competitive Lyonar deck.
Dark Nemesis is a fun legendary, but gets instantly removed/dispelled as soon as you get to the higher ranks. Until then it's an instant win condition as soon as it survives a turn.
Depends on what faction you're playing.
Vet wants Third Wish and Aymara. Time Maelstrom is a good optional card too.
Abyssian can get good use out of Revanent and Soul Grimwar
Magmar's Metamorph is extremely powerful and any big legend works well though the main choices are often Silithar Elder or Khymera. Twin Fang is also strong though more situational. I see people still run Vindicator though I never found him very threatening.
Songhai loves Boar and Mask of Shadows
Lyonar can tech any of their faction legends (outside of aegis barrier which sucks) but you'll most commonly see Arclyte.
Vanar's faction legends are all sorta optional depending on how you're building. Coldbiter would probably be the one you'll see the least. They can also get good use out of Lady Locke. Abyssian can too but burn is the only way anyone plays Abyssian and she doesn't fit into that play style.
Everyone outside of Songhai and Abyssian want Keeper of the Vale too. Archon Spellbinder can be a suitable replacement as well.
Really most any of the neutral legends can work some sort of niche in a deck. Too many people are terrified of experimenting with them and just stick with what they know. Dark Nemesis is among them. Fine. Kinda slow. Can work well.
Not necessary at all. Strong, sure. But you can get by without them, even in high ranks.
No you people just don't know what the fuck confirmation bias is.
