What mods are currently still working for the game? I imagine a bunch have gotten dropped by the makers as months and updates passed.
I'm particularly interested in the increased FOV mod, the no-develop-time one, and the "you can deploy without any equipment" one.
Also, funnily enough Quiet is still in my game despite me having done her goodbye missions. I did include a mod for her to return, back in September, but I had to do a clean reinstall and she's still there somehow. I guess I must have edited something in an ini? I don't remember

I agree grabbing people would be more fun, but
there's two main problems with that.
Everyone on the enemy team can see their friend's status AND the victim can spam "HELP ME". Even if you wanted this to play out like you would expect in an MGS game, it doesn't. It's like getting insta-alarm in single player when you do the same thing. It's broken as fuck.
Not only that, but they can also spam button or cheese with scroll wheel to release themselves, so you can either interrogate them, choke them or cut their throats. Very rarely can you interrogate and then choke them after.
The only way you can ensure you can safely interrogate is if you have a friend ready to shoot them immediately after they get released.
There's no point in grabbing people other than to choke them if you don't have tranq gun or stab their throats in C&D when you want to eliminate them instantly and permanently.
Also, if I'm not allowed to use the only useful tool that sets infiltrator apart from the other two classes, then should enforcer not be allowed to use RPG/shield and should scout not be allowed to use snipers and e.locators?
Why don't we just fucking remove everything but standard assault rifles and make it a normal 3rd person shooter for that matter?

I think that in a small, custom lobby going full tryhard is a little silly unless that's the stated goal, yes.

According to TPP Mantis is attracted to strong feelings of Revenge. Volgin was pissed he lost to Big boss and wanted his head. Mantis felt this and they formed a parasitic relationship. In MGS1 Mantis was strong in psychokinesis and pyrokinesis

MGS4 yes. MGS4's mechanics were the absolute pinnacle of stealth/TPS control design in terms of precision, reliability, nuance, and manual control. The mechanics themselves were as close as anything has ever been to perfect, it just didn't give you much of an opportunity to use them.

Apparently he still had electric powers (even though we never really see it in the game). The "pyrokinetic" powers are explained as a benefit of Mantis' control (and maybe even a bit of the Russian experimentation that occurred when they recovered his comatose body.

MGSV explains that Volgin never actually died at the end of MGS3. Russian scientists recovered his body in a comatose state and experimented heavily on it. Volgin then awoke from his comatose state at the exact same time Venom did (game said he was fueled by hatred toward Naked Snake, his awakening triggered his own). He then met Mantis somehow. In MGSV, Mantis latches on to people's hatred and rage (think the game explains it as whoever carries the most hatred around Mantis, that is whom Mantis adheres and acts on). (See pic related for a cool visual easter egg on this, actually)

Essentially, yes, or moreso, assisting and enhancing him. Ocelot mentions during the hospital getaway, and even at the end of the game after picking up on information spoken by Skullface, that Volgin was "brought back from the dead" (never died actually), a demon, fueled by hatred and desire for revenge or something like that.

So here's my biggest problem with the game... all of that info I just typed out, most of it was obtained by reading the MG Wiki and watching detailed overview videos after completing the game. I believe all of this information was in-game... but most of it was buried under hours of tapes.
I hardly listened to any of the non-essential tapes.

Beyond even just the huge list of abilities you no longer have, all of the movement animations are less precise and the stick cover is much clunkier and more restrictive. Weapon switching takes more time and more button presses, while also taking your thumbs off movement/camera control. CQC is a quicktime prompt instead of a complex suite of manual functions and hijacks your camera for the duration of the animation instead of allowing you to look around and maintain situational awareness.
I could go on and on. It just ISN'T better. Not in any way.

I've been trying to S-Rank Hellbound all day and I cannot for the life of me figure out what keeps preventing me from doing it. Every time I finish it, I get the red text saying I'm illegible for S-Rank because of "Other Unit Support".
I even tried using no buddies and not using the cardboard box transfer station, and it still gives me that message.
I'm pretty pissed off, because I have an S-Rank in everything else.
I'm using the Snake Eater Sneaking Suit without the Online ugprade and using a Botanist with a balaclava.
I have no grenades or items besides empty magazines.
But if you use rank restricting gear, it says what it was. It's saying I'm using a unit function, even though I never touch my iDroid.
Only guns are a AP Wu pistol and a 70 GMP AR because the mission is piss easy.

It's pretty easy to counter-act wise guys, if their marker doesn't turn blue they will knife you and you have more than enough time to CQC or headshot them before it goes south. Alternately, you can open up the interrogation menu, if the left side is blank they are going to knife you.

In terms of design, sure I agree about MGS4 in that MGS V is flawed when it comes to design, making most of the world empty, instead of giving a good use to locations like previous games.
Of course the game is absurd, but there's good ways to do it, and bad way to do it.
And MGS V and MGS4 take the cake when it comes to fuck the way to tell a story.

Well, there's usuall a good reception when it comes to those three games in their times. Unlike with MGS4 and MGS V wasn't a big backlash, except in the case of MGS2, and it was for something like Raiden, and not the overall story, missing stuff, removal of previous things show in footage and more. Which I actually find like the same coin with different faces, one full of cutscenes, going all over just to close the series, and another empty trying to be gameplay, but taking the critics from MGS4 too seriously.

While this is true, it's still fairly easy to get bounties as enforcers or scouts. As long as you're good at utilizing CQC, your cardboard box and your tranq pistol you can pull off some real shit. The more fragile fulton balloons suck, but you can still do alright most of the time.
The matches are fun. I prefer 8v8 matches with 99 tickets and 15-30 minute time limits. I prefer that to shorter matches most of the time. It's not designed to get XP, it's just one way that you can do it that is legitimate, and not completely retarded (like boosting)

Here's a great technique that I learned recently. Box slide at someone, then right before you hit them press R2 and you will immediately cancel the slide and go into a CQC attack. It's really useful for when you need to get close to someone really fast.

well sir, you're looking at a video game that cost 80 million dollars to make and who's sole purpose in the over-arching canon was to explain a minor plothole/retcon in a 20 year old game on a dead system.
so I suppose you could say we took it poorly.
The first "ending": Kojima's plan was to give you your own phantom pain and your own "cycle of revenge". He wanted you to have a burning desire for revenge against skull face, and then he wanted to anti-climactically take it away from you; leaving you with a sense of something being unfinished even though he's dead. While I think this idea was extremely clever and subverts gaming expectations in the usual Kojima fashion, the major flaw was that nobody really gave a fuck about skullface. Or maybe it was just me.
The second "true ending" and the second chapter in general was a mess because of lack of funds and rushing to get it finished. Too much cut content. Also I appreciate Kojima telling me that I'm big boss, but I'm not. I'd rather watch big boss be big boss.

That cut episode was not the final mission. I think people forget "Episode 51" is a made up fan name.
That episode would have taken place after Shining Lights, and before Quiet Exit and The Truth.
It's not the ending of the game, it's just the ending of the Sahelanthropus and Eli sub-plots.
I'd like to add that in MGS1 it's stated that Mantis "accidentally" burned down his whole village in some kind of psychic explosion. He tried reading his father's mind, and there Mantis saw that he was absolutely loathed for killing his mother in childbirth.
It doesn't help with the science, but the abundance of flames etc. could be because flames are all young Mantis really knows about death and revenge, a very formative incident in his young life and the reason he was kept in captivity by the Russians in the first place.
If we only have the TPP tapes to go on, the reason for his extreme power at this point in his life is because his brain's synapses aren't fully shielded yet, so his psychokinetic/telepathic abilities are at their most powerful.

Powers involving the brain getting less potent with advanced age and also lots of invasive surgery and general living like shit makes more sense than most stuff in this series
A few things that will help fix MGO:
>Separate loadouts for CnD
>Connection test for hosts, choose the best host in a given game, plus latency display (we know dedicated servers is asking for the impossible)
>Less nonsensical spawns
>HQ spawns better defended, enemies are auto-marked if you go inside the enemy base camp (the tent icon)
>Custom games give more GP
>Loadout changes during intermission
>Class changes mid-match
>Reposition/add cover to certain Comm capture points, many are horribly located
I tried to keep these reasonably low effort, unfortunately I think even this is too much to ask of Konami.

Also the special gas mask he wears in MGS1 that lets him regulate incoming lusts for revenge, that thing's probably not very good to have in a fight.
Motion Comic MGS1 Mantis is probably the closest to Kid Mantis in terms of power. Like not raw power, but he uses it more effectively, trapping Snake in a perfect illusion. MGS1's Mantis's ability to control people instead of the other way around is also pretty good.

We know that The End was also involved with parasites, and maybe some others of the Cobra Unit. But I keep hearing about a 'fire spirit' of some sort that possessed The Fury and subsequently Volgin as the Man on Fire. Is there any canonical mention or explanation of that fire spirit? I mean I thought it was a little interesting, being one of the few truly supernatural things in MG, but I can't find anything solid on it, aside from whatever that was that flew around the stage after beating The Fury.

Bounty Hunter they have the best fultoning abilities, making them the best at turning games around, and in C&D they have top tier movement speed and CQC.

MGS1 had such great boss characters. Figures the only one to survive would end up as the hero of the series.
For real though, I would play a spin-off game based off of literally any of the Shadow Moses crew, though I bet Liquid was pretty fucking obnoxious in his late teens and 20s.
Cobra Unit are cool and all, but most of them are distinctly lacking in personality. They mostly seem to make a bunch of allusions to whatever their name is, and excluding Sorrow and Joy they had no backstory other than "They fought in the war. They were really good."
Cobra Unit's also old as fuck and probably tired of all that shit, even The Joy didn't seem that into it anymore.
Cobra Unit in their prime when they were saving the world and had their power couple intact would probably be pretty entertaining.
They have the lowest health and the lowest offensive capability.
All of their tricks require them to get close to you and in a game that isn't a chaotic shitfest, that's just never going to happen.
Yeah the boss fights are the weakest parts of MGS3 in terms of the story. It was very "this is a video game so we need boss fights. The other games had weird people with weird powers so this game shall have the same"

The "weird guys weird powers" thing has been around since MG1 and seemed like one of the primary themes of MG2, but yeah, it was kind of a regression from what they managed to do with the bosses' personalities in 1 and 2. I guess it was supposed to be a simpler time.
