NAND = operating system
sysNAND = OS running from internal 3DS storage
emuNAND = replica of sysNAND running off SD card

unlinking NANDs = formatting sysnand so its ID changes to something entirely different. your real ID stays on emunand, though.

when you format, your NAND changes IDs, meaning it will read from an entirely different folder within SD:/Nintendo 3DS/, which is where all your games/saves exist

anyway about FBI, make sure you're in a CFW on sysnand like pasta, or you will not be able to install .cias (FBI installs to SD, by the way)

when launching your sysnand CFW (like pasta), don't forget to hold your homemenuhax trigger button, or it will try to launch boot.3dsx instead of booting into sysnand cfw

My FBI is injected into H&S, I don't have HBL installed and I coldboot into the CTRBootManager when I turn my system on, then I just pick homebrew menu from there instead of booting into rxtools.

it's in a hidden partition of your SD card taking up 1GB of space (2GB if N3DS) so you can't see it without a proper tool like EmuNAND Tool.

if your card's name is "EMUNAND9SD" or "GATEWAYNAND" then you know emunand is on the card.

you can format it with EmuNAND9.3dsx.

You should hopefully know how to set up HBL if you've already downgraded, though. Homemenuhax will trigger SD:/boot.3dsx, which is HBL (assuming you got boot.3dsx from the starter.zip from smealum's website)

Some of the more popular EmuNAND CFWs include: ReiNAND, Cakes, RxTools

If you need one for SysNAND, RxTools and Pasta can do that. Just remember to hold your homemenuhax button to prevent triggering HBL again.

I can successfuly boot automatically into the homebrew thing just by turning on my ds 99% of the time

I was ORIGINALLY following a n3ds guide by mistake and at a certain fail point I quit that and started over by dragging a copy I had made onto my SD card (after deleting everything)

My NNID is unlinked
I have no idea if my NANDs are unlinked

FBI will not install tinywhatever from the tutorial in the link I linked.
It also asks me to go into minipasta, which seems to succeed but instead of taking me to a home menu as described, takes me to the HBL again (because of the auto launch settings?)

So Im working through the completely retarted guide and im looking at its instructions to fix the eshop problem. It says

For good measure, format sysnand with the SD card out. That will ensure your NANDs are unlinked.

Yes, you cannot install TinyFormat using FBI unless you are running a CFW, which requires Pasta/minipasta/RxTools SysNAND)

When you boot into a CFW on sysnand, it will definitely trigger homemenuhax, which you might not want. However, in this case, you really do want to go back to HBL so you can use FBI.3dsx to install FBI.cia.

Do this: Power on, HBL, Pasta, HBL again, FBI.3dsx, press L to ensure "Destination: SD", then install FBI.cia to SD.

Power on again, run pasta, hold your homemenuhax button so you don't trigger boot.3dsx, and see if FBI is on your home menu.

Let me know if anything goes wrong.

Anyone here that's played or is playing Super Metroid on blargSNES 1.3b? The game was running flawlessly up until a room in Maridia that consistently makes the game glitch out and be unplayable. The emulator doesn't crash or anything, though. I'm on an O3DSXL if it matters.

I downgraded my n3ds about a week ago, while it still wasn't possible to update your emunand to 10.3 and it was solely limited to 9.5
Now it seems to be possible, but all the guides assume that you install CakesFW from scratch instead of trying to update the thing.

Could someone tell me how to or where to lurk in order to update my emunand from 9.5 to 10.3 with old cakesFW. I'd be glad if I don't lose anything seeing I already have about 50 gb of games on it.

For now, we want to get FBI on your sysnand (so you can mess with that later if you want to) and get a CFW booting you into emunand.

After we get the CFW booting into EmuNAND, we'll restore all 4 of those NAND.bins you have into emunand and see which one reads from your Nintendo 3DS folder (I'm willing to bet it's the oldest NAND.bin you have)

I recommend making a NAND.txt file in the /Nintendo 3DS/ folder so you remember which one that is. You should also log that the largest folder you have is your EmuNAND folder. Then you can delete the other two (back them up on your computer until we're absolutely sure everything works, I guess)

Yes, it is your original sysnand. You're using emunand to read it from now on so you can update while in CFW/play around with your original SysNAND without worrying about bricking.

Using menuhax typ2 booting mode and starting your 3ds while holding L boots you to sysnand.

I'm trying to make a theme but when I install it on my 3ds the music only plays up to like 2:15 loops the last couple of seconds for like 45 seconds then starts over. The song is 3 minutes long and works fine in YATA.

First question because I'm stupid, how am I copying the data thats already on my 3DS to the new SD card or does that even matter? I don't really care about my saved progress on any of the games atm.

No. Sysnand backup means that you make a backup of the NAND parition. Use gateway's launcher to make a backup of nand.bin.

rename SD:/boot.3dsx to "boot_hb.3dsx" and then copy the contents of the O3DS folder to your SD root. If you did it properly, you should now have SD:/rxtools/sys/code.bin (and everything else that was included)

If you have an rxtools folder already, delete that and replace it with this one.

Power on and see if it boots into a purple menu and then eventually emunand. If it crashes, try again until you see a home menu. Hopefully, all your apps will already be there. If they are, change the menu theme to whatever you want, so you know this is your emunand. Report back if your apps/games/saves aren't in there, or if rxtools doesn't boot for you.

Okay so I've started the menuhax launcher loader AGAIN with internet on and no button pressed and it goes right up until "Jumpng into payload..." then it crashes 3 seconds later.
It recognizes that I've already downloaded it though.

Should I maybe manually delete that "payload" from my SD and let it download it again?

I updated my Cakes installation and went from 9.5 to 10.3 without any issue.
Simply delete following:

/sdcard/3ds/Cakes
/sdcard/cakes
/sdcard/Cakes.dat

Download the 108 release and copy everything over again.
Place slot0x11key96.bin in /sdcard/ and the correct firmware.bin and cetk to /sdcard/cakes.
I also copied the old firmkey.bin and slot0x25KeyX.bin to their usual places again (but I think you don't need them).

Afterward it will initialize everything like the first time again, meaning: don't forget to set the patches before you launch it.
Then I went to settings and started the update.
The first time after the update I had a black screen, but after the second try everything worked flawlessly.

Reinstalled NTR, and it works as well.

Only the 3D is still fucked and needs closing/opening. No clue if this will ever be fixable.
