Took the pistol because better crit damage with headshots compared to the rifle.

Plus this map has a lot of bullets but little energy clips lying around. So I guess I should stick with human weaponry for now.

Looks like the Sleepwalker bug hit New Mexico pretty hard too.

It's a simple, reliable handgun with decent stopping power that has stood the test of time since World War I. It's no longer standard issue for most standard military forces, but it's still the preferred side arm of special forces the world over. Even the Chinese use it, and they'd rather shoot themselves than use American hardware under normal circumstances.

Nico originally planned to assist in the assault by blowing the shit out of the ayys as a suicide bomber. Being the ME Paragon lover that I am, I convinced him to evac out of their and help find a cure as a test subject before succumbing to the Sleepwalker bug.

According to Nico, trying to resist the sleepwalker bug is like trying to resist sleep. Except he feels like he's been awake for an entire week.

Of course, that makes things harder for my team but seeing how fucking hardcore they are I think they can smoke the ayys.

>XCOM 2 will feature a self-learning AI-module. The game does feature self-adjusting difficulty, where player performances influences the Alien zeal to expand and infest. Sluggish XCOM responses, total failures, and a bad weekly rating slow the alien build-up of weapons and creatures (but not ships) on their home continent. This gives the player the chance to amend their failures and rethink their strategy. For example, a high rating in first five days can make the Aliens attack your HQ head-on with a large heavily armed mob often. Conversely, a low rating in the first five days can make the aliens only incur twice a week, with a very small force.

Also Engineers are fucking useless until they reach Rank 4 in this game. Shotguns and Scatter Lasers have shit range, but for some reason Engies seem to have a lot of trouble taking cover. >The XCom squad's stats, gear, skills, and composition; and
>The unique configuration of map environment and mission objective requirements.
>Enemy Intensity levels will dynamically change throughout a campaign based on various factors. The user selected 'Rookie' difficulty will experience Intensity levels 1-5 through their campaign; 'Legend' difficulty requires players to compete against Intensity levels that range from 3-7. (It's worth noting that the highest Intensity level I've seen on streams thus far was Intensity level 4.)

You activate it and drop it on the ground to breach doors and such from a safe distance, usually. If you knew the AI well you could presumably bait them into it somewhat, but bleh. There were a few mods that increased the destructibility of alien craft which would have been useful (but I never used it).

Guys, i need your help. For tens years I've known my friend, through thick and thin. He's had my back when i got bullied, i was there for him when his girlfriend broke up with him and needed a place to stay, we've laughed, cried, and mourned together. After the invasion came around, he and his immediate family got swept up in some odd circles. See we come from different backgrounds, he's from a rich family with lots of political ties, while my family is mostly middle class due to my dad working as an accountant and my mother being an archaeologist. How they met is another story, but i digress.
My friend is an ADVENT sympathizer, and I need to bring him over to our side. Not only would he be a valuable asset to the resistance, I can't stand him being used like this, it's shit. I'm pretty sure he's just being blackmailed or threatened, what the fuck do i do?

If you're heavily modifying soldiers: Rank the replacement up to a decent point, then mod them before you use them as the replacement of your main soldier.
Generally though in LW, it was better to only modify soldiers that needed second heart for will/life protection. The other mods were for building that second generation of super soldiers in the deep late game, cause you're balling in meld.

Motherfucking Titan.

You will take damage if it targets you. The only thing you can do is to not take a direct hit. It will melt the cover you're hiding behind and inflict burning damage afterwards.

The Titan is probably what's left of the generic monolith/blob enemies back when the Bureau was an investigative game.

Also Engineers can't target the damn thing because their weapons are too short-ranged.

Against unweakened singletargets, yes.
But with a stealth ranger it will be an absolute blast:

>Sniper on high ground, with scope and expanded magazine not to far away
>Ranger move in, found a pod with 3 aliens.
>Sniper use "Kill Zone" over them.
>Enemy turn starts, pod move.... and sniper shot with 3 shots at them.
>Aliens run toward the sniper, end their turn,
>Sniper activate "Serial" and finish them off.
>Reload after that, because of "Death from Above"
>Good times

It's now important to be not that far away anymore. Shooting over the whole map is bad now, but stay closer to the team make the sniper a very good class.

Anyway, I thought about some skills for a future LW gunslinger class. I assume that they will make pistol ammo limited and make them low damage (3/4 damage of rifle), High crit chance weapons and the Class itself highly mobile. 6 shot mags but doesn't benefit from ammo mods
so carrying multiple pistols is recommended

Colonel
>Max Pain
>Dashing into cover automatically fires a free shot at every flank target. 3 Turn Cooldown
>Animation is the classic slowmo dive while firing

Major
>Showdown
>Fires a shot that ignores cover and guarantees a crit with extra damage. Remove user cover bonus as well for that turn so use it as a finisher. 3 Turn Cooldown
>Animation is a western duel, soldier stares at the target with a western sound cue then firing

Captain
>Speedloaders
>Grant a free reload to pistols and autoloaders from weapon mods will affect pistols. Passive

Lieutenant
>Unerring Vigilance
>An enhanced overwatch that guarantees ONE shot against any target that moves. Basically a 360 version of Killzone but you can only shoot everything once and only when they move. Best used on pod discovery. 3 Turn cooldown
>Animation has the soldier lowering his hat like a cowboy

Sergeant
>Pistollier
>Reduce encumbrance from carrying multiple pistols. Remember since ammo is limited, a gunslinger would like to carry multiple pistols, removing their weight turns them into saniacs with a shit ton of pistols at the cost of some grenades etc.

Corporal
>Flank specialist
>Doubles the crit bonus from Flanking and Exposed aliens

Shit, I just realized I need an ACW perk for Opportunist to crit on Overwatch. Or is that too overpowered?

So far, so good. The key to getting an early advantage certainly seems to be to use sniper MECs. I'm popping thin men, floaters, and sectoids in a single shot even when they're in light cover with hit chances hovering around 90%. Rest of my guys aren't getting much experience though, and wind up being relegated to grenading cover so the MECs can have their 100% hit chances. Also, that Kinetic Strike Module is hilarious against Chrysilids, one hit instant kill against them or zombies and my MECs usually have the movement range to hit them first, or at least pull far enough back that they can't reach me in one turn.

Geoscape has been good to me this game as well. I had Japan, Australia, and India in full panic, then got my first terror mission in Sydney, which dropped two points of terror all across Asia. I've got three more satellites ready this month, so hopefully there's no major issues between now and month four so I can lock down 3 of 5 of the continents.

I think assassination just covers the Dark VIP missions, where you can either kill them or extract them for a small bonus.

Don't see why you'd ever not kill them, maybe if they moved, yeah, you could have a situation where they could escape and you'd have to take a shot. Might be a neat challenge to try and hold concealment as long as possible, even though it would mean boxing you in some place.

You're shit literally boils down to what you define as an exploit, an oversight, and a tactic.

Personally I think it's fine, it's not even an oversight since the game tells you enemies will be predictable,
I mean I get the argument that you display a lack of skill by defeating enemies not by learning threat assessment and appropriate tactics, but instead by metagame info, like map layout and pod placement,
but it really doesn't apply here since, as we said this kinda shit was explicitly stated.

I only blew up the front one, my heavy was the only one with opportunist so I wasn't risking it.
Grenade got the closer one and I'm not sure it did anything. It's weird you can blow them up since they aren't even usable cover.

"Fusion" is an ultimate technique in many fictional universes, which combines the attributes of great warriors to produce a power vastly superior to their base forms. Notable examples include the fusion of the saiyans Goku and Vegeta which they used to toss the nuggets of Buu, or the fusion of the two kryptonians, Superman and Doomsday, with the power of the coluan Brainiac, which gave them the power to heal the wounds in the fabric of reality with only their combined mind-power

The POV on those flashbacks are also impossible for a human. One of them is the Temple Ship while it is in space headed for Earth and you are behind it looking at both the Earth and the Ship. There is also one where he is floating above the Hologlobe. How would the commander be able to remember the Temple Ship in a timeline where they never even reached lasers and before the ship even entered the atmosphere.

It's possible those are the ethereal's memories which is why the POV is so strange. I would shit a brick if they actually made Bureau hard canon and the basis for XCOM2s story.

Sup guys, /aceg/ here.
This game caught my interest (mostly due to a certain Xenonauts streaming(, and I've found the PS3 version for a incredibly cheap price, but I'd like to ask a few things before anything.

So, how much depth is there to the interception/air combat thing? Can you develop planes?

How frustrating is it? Not like missing 65% chance shots (I'm used to oldschool SRW bullshit), but how easily can you ruin a campaign by doing wrong choices.

Also, is there much difference from each platform version of the game? Is the PS3 one alright?

Shallow, complete RNG, you can develop weapons and build alien inspired aircraft but that's about it. I'm talking about vanilla of course because the console versions are garb and can't be modded.
>>
>>128982893
The meat of the game is in the tactical layer commanding your soldiers on the ground.

Air combat is fairly basic.
Percentages are real. If you take a 95% shot, there is a 5% chance it'll miss.
There isn't a difference between the platforms, but PC has seen a resurgence due to the Long War mod.

Fair warning, there's XCOM2 right around the corner which has dramatic improvements to both the tactical layer and strategic layer. It looks like it'll iterate forward everything. But it's also PC only.
>>
>>128982893
The airgame is a minigame at best.
In the base game there is one(1) upgrade you get for a second plane type.
The only depth is your and the ufo taking percentage shots at each other until time runs out.
You can develop consumable boost items which can be used to make your next two shots hit, make the next two enemy shots miss, or extend the timer by a few seconds.
When your interceptor goes down you have to buy a new one to replace it, you can have up to 6 on each continent.
That is literally all there is to it.

>>128990531

There's a consensus that the first research should always be xenobiology. You get extra scientists from the tech because of requests for sectoid corpses it unlocks, and early on scientists scale your research time extremely well. Nine times out of ten you get to lasers quicker taking that first than you do just beelining for it through alien weaponry. The reason you generally want lasers asap isn't the weapons in the tactical laye, though they're a nice bonus - it's the lasercannon for the airgame. You want to get ahead in the air as fast as you can.

A lot of people do gaussrushes instead though. I feel this is a strategy that is hard to pull off, and largely unnecessary; you don't really need gauss if you're not taking losses in the tactical layer, so if you feel it's not going well just go for layer.

Playing through I/I for the second time now, so I think I can speak with some legitimacy, and I think you've really got to throw a lot of vanilla convention out the window. Satrushing is not a viable strategy and interceptors are expensive as shit, meaning you start small on the strategic layer. Focus on your starting continent and branch out only when you feel in control. You may lose a country or two, but that's okay. More base assaults and aliens tech up faster, but if you manage to pull them off you're in a better place than you were to begin with on the scale of things.

I generally go for laboratories fairly early to get an edge in the midgame, where they shine by giving you shit a bit earlier than the aliens get them, but that leaves me starved for material sometimes. You decide whether it's better to put up a workshop instead, a lot of the time that's the better option.

Oh, and France's Quai D'Orsay is the strongest starting bonus by far imo, rivalled only by the +1 mobility IF you're doing poorly on the tactical layer.
>>
>>128991417
Like the other anon said, its personal preference. Generally people go for something that helps shore up their own personal weakness in either the tactical or strategic game.

That said, Fracne Quai D' Orsay is the overall strongest bonus. Canada's cadre is very good for a strong early game start that can snowball to better things. Nigeria's +1 mobility is my personnel favorite, and arguably strong for the tactical game.

>>128991607
Also what I really feel has helped me recently is always expanding to the continent the aliens seem to be focusing on after my starting one. Contesting - or maybe denying - them a base really slows down their research time tangibly, and I can't overstate the value of that.

In the tac-layer, there are a lot more pods than you're used to in vanilla. This means aggressive flanking as a standard tactic is only okay if you've had a concealment scout/battlescanner/motion tracker check where you're advancing to for pods first, or you're in for a world of hurt when five elite muton pods activate at once.

This is by far the best tip anyone can give you though; get yourself some MSGT archers. They're unstoppable.
>>
>>128989485
They didn't land on "Plymouth Rock/ Plymouth Rock Landed on them"
>>
>>128990531
Lasers are also a great idea because they also provide a bonus for aim which helps a lot in the early tactical game.

Be choosy about engagements by knowing where you can have most of your guys in full cover or able to escape out of sight. This may sometimes mean retreating backwards. Trying to get those delicious flanks can often mean crossing your forward firing/sight line and drawing in another pod.
>>
So I started a new long war campaign and the second mission in im squad wiped to 3 pods of chrysilids and 3 other pods of mixed ayys. should I just restart?

I don't like windows, never said I did, it's just it's fucked you might as well just pirate it if you don't want to support them. It's the same with 21:9 or 16:10 aspect rations, both are better but the support is lacking.

I tried linux for a while to see if I could swap over but damn a commonly supported OS has so much more power it's nuts. It's the whole Beta Max thing.

On a sidenote though win7 64bit is probably the best bet and there's plenty of torrents.

That was my point, Windows is pure trash but it doesn't matter
It's all about support, and it's a miracle if anything but Windows gets supported

That's the worst thing, when there is no competition
Windows has none
Linux, SteamOS, all of that is literally nothing compared to it

If they had at least one decent system that's supported along side with it, then you'd see some actual efforts to improve things

Any advice for base building and satellite/research priority? I just failed an Enemy Unknown vanilla playthrough because I couldn't handle the panic and too many people left the Xcom project.

My problem wasn't winning battles, because I didn't fail a single one. I think I must have messed up my priorities and I don't think I got enough satellites up. I had 5 up when I lost. A couple got shot down because I didn't have the money for decent intereceptors. It sucks, because I won all the missions but couldn't deal with the base building aspect. Any tips?

For research rush lasers. You dont need armor if they cant shoot at you.
For base, rush sats.
Try to cover whole continents because once one is completely covered, it wont have abductions, hence no panic increse (leave a countinent/country uncovered to be able to farm abductions if only 1 pops up, no panic will increase).
Get the asia starting bonus not just because its the best, but you can sacrafice 3 countries wihtout losing any continent bonuses.
Launch sats at the end of the month, so you wont have the panic reduction wasted if an abduction shows up before the report.
Ayy base assault gives a global panic reduction so its worthwile to set it up, but hold it off for when multiple countries are threatening to leave.
>>
>>128997010
Fuck I'm stupid, I never knew about that abductions would stop if I had satellites up. I even had 3/4 covered in Europe.

What do you recommend for the air side of things? Rush phoenix cannons? On the battle side of things I think I'm completely fine because I didn't lose once and I only lost 2 guys in all the missions I did. Thanks for the advice.

There's also the rapidly-increasing probability that exos will be a frequently-issued item in real battlefields since Lockheed Martin is shoveling government money at the HULC project.

Burn everything. Nuke went off? Say it was an accident.

Dams have been destroyed to flood entire towns. XCOM has its ways. The ending explains things but I don't want to say anything since Bureauanon is only halfway through.

Exo-suits are held back purely by garbage portable energy resources. All modern prototypes are perpetually hooked up to a diesel generator since not even a car battery can provide sufficient enough power.

Those exo's should be covered in armor. You loose nothing of the mobility but gain a lot in operator survivability.

Hence why we see them in future settings so much now. There's always some kind of handwaveium available to power the suits there - in XCOM's case, Elerium.

This anon pretty has pretty much hit EXALT on the head - EXALT is basically the Brotherhood of Nod in the Xcom universe, just replace Tiberium with MELD.

Seriously, considering how little we know about EXALT beyond what the game implies and what the fanfiction community has written around it, I could see Kane being the leader of EXALT - both are illuminati style organisations, both want power linked through by extraterrestrial technology and resources and both (if you ignore the utter shite of C&C 4) want to achieve power and advancement of the human form via Meld/Tiberium/Insert Plot Token Here.

Damnit, now I have an Xcom/TIberian Sun crossover forming in my head.

I need to have a less active imagination.

I would figure Exos are MECs lightened (no gatling guns/massive pulse lasers), and Neo-MECs could be MECs enhanced and up-armored. Using a crass 40k metaphor while MECs were basically space marines in XcomEW, in Xcom2 MECs could become Dreadnought or something in betwen a dreadnought and a terminator. Or simply put like the big guy 4 u here >>129009236

However the fact that we are the downtrodden rebels makes me doubt we'll get something that would be so close to a rebel version of the sectopod. Adam Jensens feel a bit more likely but then again wouldn't a lot of what they offer already be covered by exo-suit?

Not at the level needed. The energy density and weight demands are, to put it mildly, considerable. Which is a damn shame. The other promising approach are electrically driven artificial muscle fibers, with lower energy consumption.

You have to remember that in EOT that humans are fighting a primarily melee based alien force that can shred through the suits regardless.

Also humanity got a horribly skewed impression of the Jacket's actual performance because of Rita's constant death looping. So the military believes she killed hundreds of aliens in a single "day" because the suit was that good and not because she spent over a year in her time dying and repeating the same day.
