i run CE happily today on win7 on my parallels virtual machine, had to switch once OSX made the change off power-pc functionality, lost my ability to play halo, ut2004, empire at war, lord of the rings, and so on with my mac

anything extra you might need is included with the game because thats how things used to be, but I wouldn't count on needing an update since it's from 2001. runs beautifully even on a potato setup

Halo Custom Edition (abbreviated Halo CE) is a secondary release by Gearbox, its essentially a version of combat evolved that allows user created content, you can download the newest versions for free off halomaps.org but it requires a valid cd key to play, so no surprises there. its servers and community are still active. Tons of mapmaking tools, custom weapons, bipeds, even scripted missions with cutscenes. Firefight, AI battles, etc. The massive maps that let you fly longswords and pelicans around are my personal favorites. Most notable in custom edition is CMT doing a remake of the campaign, which they've been working on in versions since before CE:A was ever a thing. they're currently on SPV3 and it is hotly anticipated.

Even if it's been here since halo 3 it's much more annoying now with addition of boost and spartan charge.

If someone is sprinting at me telegraphing the charge I should be able to sidestep or boost sidestep. Same with doing a melee trade then side boosting to avoid the next melee.

Leave the sword with homing but normal melees need to not home or home a lot less. It's hilariously easy to hit people with charge as it currently is.

you can avoid a spartan charge if you jump and thrust backwards away from it. trying to avoid on the ground wont work since the distance evaded sliding along the ground is a lot shorter than the distance the thrusters fling you when in midair

Without the homing effect I'm pretty sure a sideways boost would move you out of the path.
I've done it before and had the charger turn at like 45 degree angle to hit me, it's annoying and would allow for nice counterplay if you could sidestep with boost.

I'm guessing melee/charge on allies doesn't home so a good comparison would be to do a custom and try sidestepping/boost dodging charges from a teammate then try it with him as an enemy and see.
