The uni I learned at handed out hiragana and katakana sheets, spent about a day or two on each demonstrating how to write them and going over them, and gave homework of memorizing them followed by a simple test. The people I've spoken to all had a similar experience.

I don't consider formalcraft being even good on him, just decent. You will find that having 70%-90% to crit with any card will deal way more damage than the 25% increase damage on art cards.
His NP is just not that good. Unless you are going against 3 sabers the damage will be very mediocre even with full buffs.
