So besides the Snezka losing its optics for price reduction, and the Gornos losing the BTRs, was anything else in that patch shit?
I mean there was a bunch of small positive changes like T-62s getting 5% more accuracy, or the T-72s dropping 5 points, which are kinda meaningless but still positive changes. But was anything else truly a shit change? Enlighten me if I'm wrong please.
Because the best two air forces rightfully belong to Uncle Sam.
I have trouble with it too. I usually give up and have to turn on labels because I'm a shitter, I rationalize it because I normally play pretty zoomed out since I don't have either a headtracker or a third hand to mouse the camera around while I'm flying.
It also pisses me off that when airplanes are leaving behind chemtrails the render distance is too short and if they're far enough away they only render if you look at them from a specific angle, and this is with all the graphics settings maxed out including draw distance.
How does a thread for so many different games die so often/go so slow???
4chan has a fuck load of people that are super into military shit. I don't get how these games aren't more popular.
2 Yak-141s at trained or 1 at elite.
2 Su-27PU at elite (2 cards of 1).
1 Su-27M at veteran.
2 Mig-29Ms at rookie or 1 at veteran.
(1 Mig-31M at hardened.)
2 F-15Cs at elite (2 cards of 1).
2 F-16C Block 52s at trained or 1 at elite.
(2 F-14s at trained or 1 at elite in LOL THE NAVAL TAB).
Yeah I guess the Soviets do have an advantage in F&F radar guided missiles, but instead of stripping them of the R-77s, maybe give more AMRAAMs to the US?
Because those people into military shit like to just obsess over the aesthetics of inanimate objects, don't have the aptitude or willpower to put in the time to learn a slightly complex video game, and are too autistic to deal with slight "inaccuracies"
(see: slavaboo, hatobaby, etc)for their favorite weapon/vehicle/military unit. I'm surprised they're even able to get to /k/ on their own
Actually, this raises another question from me.
How many of these fighters are the Soviet players actually taking? Because that's 5 cards (6 with the Mig-31M) right there, which doesn't leave them room for SEAD or bombers and whatnot. Meanwhile the US only uses up 3 cards to bring all 4 of it's fighters.
And let's not forget how a lot of Soviets use the Mig-25 for their fighter.
But even for the US F&F missiles shouldn't be on fucking everything. It makes more sense to just take them away from shit that shouldn't have them(this includes AMRAAMs from other blufor nations and the fucking Rafale).
>every single US plane has empty pylons(blatantly obvious on the A-10, where only 2 pylons are used)
>US planes have artificially increased fuel capacities with no time on target increase to compensate, resulting in longer reload periods
>none of the multiroles carry amraams or even sparrows
This is entirely Eugen's fault.
Does anyone else have problems with Red Dragon stopping and starting during a multiplayer match?
Just random ass freezing like your connection is timing out then just unfucks itself?
stupid ass videogames
Nice, that was very interesting. I'm glad he seems willing to answer more questions later.
A friend of mine just gifted me MOWAS2. I can't believe it's literally a rehash the first.
Is the base game worth playing at all or should I just play Rising Reds?
Komandozi get 17 ap (1 hit av3)
SPG's (10 second artillery) is going to be allowed in Armored decks
t-72a/t72m for motorized
Massive akula vickers acc buff
possible RD air tab buffs
>mfw all these improves anti-material rifles in syria
>"you see Achmed it's only loud on the first shot"
The OT-65A Vydra buff seems a bit overboard, with the new stats thats a huge amount of HE it's going to be spitting for the price. However I never see the unit in the first place so I don't know how it will end up playing out, The Dyna definitely doesn't need a price nerf if it gets 2275m range, and the buff for the Feibao was too small to accomplish anything and the buff for the other 4 missile top end sead was nonexistent.
Also the snezka change would be great, NSWP is dying to get a good combat recon. They already have another exceptional optics ground platform so not much is being lost.
>Mfw Boshongsu STILL won't get a 5 pt transport.
It's bizarre how, despite the planefags being the biggest shitposters, can't fly to save their lives and sound like literal children, actually have the money to afford their considerably expensive hobby while the purist 'wargamers' are constantly begging for cracks. You would think the purists have an older, working audience. I'm not judging, just making an observation.
Only if you're looking for something different. They're pretty ass in multiplayer unless you're against idiots.
They were a little op when they came out and got nerfed into submission. Oberkommando are kinda op atm. Still fun to play, pretty good game right now. Biggest bullshit is commander microtransaction fuckery
It's because there are 4 factions, not two. Win rates are disseminated across different matchings, and the two alliances have an uneven number of factions between each other.
You don't wanna see how poorly UKF does in team games.
nigga what? he is just pointing out problems, not justifying anything
Holy fuck, MiG-21 is actually super comfy to fly! Thanks /wgg/, now I know I haven't wasted that money on boring stuff.
I'm getting a weird satisfaction every time I click all those tumblers, set up the radio and take of properly.
The hatobabbi that complained on it surely doesn't understand comfyness.
I like it a lot too anon, it's probably my favorite module. I think Leatherneck is doing a good job, I'm looking forward to seeing their F-14 and Viggen hopefully this decade.
But I already have it for a couple of weeks, trying to fly it without reading the manual first until today
Not until I'll figure it out how to use radar and weapons, I want to try out those nuclear meow bombs. And even then I'll use the hell out of it, I like the details.
I am okay about reading them since I started flying
a Tecnam P2002 IRL
The nuclear bombs are shit unfortunately. Apparently the developers said that they are opposed to nuclear weapons so the "nuclear bomb" for the MiG-21 is just a conventional bomb with a really big explosion. Conveniently that excuse also allows them to not have to make all the lighting effects and mushroom cloud and shockwave and stuff for a proper nuclear explosion. Also makes it a damn shame that the F-86 module has a fully developed LABS bombing system but no nukes that would actually require using over the shoulder bombing to avoid blowing yourself up.
>Apparently the developers said that they are opposed to nuclear weapons
That's not really the reason for the undermodeling of the nuke, it's just a fun gimmick that's not worth wasting dev time on. like Naval in RD
You have to admit that's a flawless cop-out excuse, though.
What is the point of LABS, then? Or even what is it exactly and how is it different from toss/shoulder bombing. I'm curious, there doesn't seem to be a whole lot about it online.
>You have to admit that's a flawless cop-out excuse, though.
Oh yeah sure, but there's tonnes of stuff I care about more on the MiG that I'd like to see fixed before nukes were looked at.
>Fucking faggot ass developers won't even make a fake nuke because "muh morals"
The thing that makes me really angry is the cockpit lights being disabled, how the fuck are you supposed to fly at night? Even real-life slavshitters didn't have to fly their plane by the light of a flashlight. How long could that possible take to fix? What else is really missing though, all I've noticed are a couple of minor bugs sometimes and the cockpit icing and pitot tube icing still need to be implemented but I guess those are pretty minor things.
LABS was meant for accurate toss/shoulder bombing, I have still yet to see its accuracy though and can achieve similar results just winging it and you don't need super accuracy with a nuke, toss bombing became far more accurate with modern CCRP systems and guided munitions.
Is anyone else excited for Graviteam Tactics: Mius Front? I'm looking foward to Panthers.
Or is it just me?
>Carpet bombing villages, massacring civilians in order to get at enemy targets is okay
>Burning troops alive is okay
>Mutilating troops is okay.
>General mayhem and war is okay
>Incendiary weapons and Nukes cross the line, though.
Gotta love ED and Bohemia's logic.
>Incendiary weapons and Nukes cross the line, though.
idk about Bohemia but for ED & LN morals are explicitly not the reason these things are not included, afaik BST are actually waiting for ED to get on and redo the explosion fx so they can see if they can make napalm happen. As for LN and the nuke the line in the manual is a throwaway 'joke', if they were against nukes it wouldn't be included at all. It's basic implementation is as far as I know like many things in the MiG, not 100% final. They may be still waiting for ED to redo explosion fx or they could have just moved on to more important things like their 3+ aircraft in production.
>huh I wonder why my units going mid keep exploding
and then the rest of the game for 20 minutes became "LET'S KILL THE BR-4s FROM EVERY SIDE AT ONCE:
Fun fact: you can decrew them with molotovs and recrew them later to manipulate population caps!
>spend years trying to get one plane done
>still isn't fully finished
>oh by the way we're also making an F-14 and a Viggen
>oh and an F-4U
>also multiple new maps for all of these planes to fly in
I'm glad there's lots of stuff in development for DCS but its seems like ED and all the third parties are biting off a whole lot at once especially considering how goddamn slowly they all work.
Try reading the DCS patch notes. After that try to come up with a convincing reason for why shit like automatic vehicle AI pathing shouldn't have become a thing in one of LOMAC's updates instead of fucking 2015.
Well desu that's all LN, you have to remember there are a lot of dev teams and some of them like ED quite large.
If anything ED are one of the more conservative devs, working on their slow burning projects for years and not giving release dates.
Save for the EDGE fiasco, but we don't talk about that.
>reading the patch notes
The patch notes are often so far from the truth I swear they're written by a guy who lives over the road from ED's office, trying to glean as much as he can with only a pair of binoculars.
> I swear they're written by a guy who lives over the road from ED's office, trying to glean as much as he can with only a pair of binoculars.
I'll second this, DCS patch notes are shit. They forgets things and the format is different every time.
They've steadily been getting worse and are at the point where patch notes seem to cover maybe 5% at most of what was changed. Can't blame them too much I guess though since the lists would be pretty long. BMS 4.33 didn't have any patch notes because it would've been too much of a chore. There's also the issue of translating shit to English since many of the devs are slavs.
I wish they would at least mention generally what was changed if they won't do specifics though.
>playing NK against a Eurocore and US player

>Every missile I fire at him misses

Does anyone have a torrent or download link for combat mission battle for normandy v 3.0 ?
I really want to try out that game but the pricing is way too much.
Planefags in the thread
Is there anything you'd suggest to be added to the pastebin?
>air weapons range objects
>Range mission template
Only for true autists
Krause's tutorials are already mentioned on the BMS section. Added that video in the beginning of the paste.
You'll need to be more specific than that. I do not know anything good about that to put there.
>already mentioned on the BMS section
Yeah I know, I just think that one in particular is one of the most important since a vast majority of people in DCS MP have no fucking idea what to do when a missile starts tracking them.
>isn't more unbalanced in his favour
>unbalanced in his favour
yeah those Aussie leopards are so OP right?
Give me one anzac unit that actually gives anzacs an advantage.
Don't you dare say F111C because that thing dies literally every time
>You'll need to be more specific than that
It's been years since I learned how to fly in IL-2 and I don't feel like going all over the place looking for training material, again.
literally its only good point is its speed and bomb load
Shityt 10% ECM
And what do anzacs have to deal with AA?
They have no sead and no artillery.
Hornets are better because they actually have a chance of surviving. If ANZACs could get two it'd be another story but at this point I barely even bother using it.
It's the same case as NK, factions shit on because they are part of a coalition so buffing it would make the coalition OP, even though commonwealth is one of the weakest coalitions anyway.
whats your point?
It's expensive, has ultra low survivability dude to it's lack of ECM.
Compare it to the deagle, which still has an incredible bomb load and high speed, and has a great ECM of 40%.
F35 Draken Wons, also good bomb load, not as big as F-111C but still fast, ECM 30%
It's not the worst bomber in the game but it isn't OP if you can call it once, have it kill a few units and have it shot down. If it were to have higher ECM I would completely agree with you that it's OP but at the moment its just a one hit wonder
Decent accuracy atgms
Cheap as shit
8 hp heli platform
Basically, run in groups of 2-3 and use them in flank attacks. You can bleed peoples adn dry with these and use them to spot for mortar strikes on AA relatively cheaply. Always seems to pay off.
It's fun but its literally a meme faction, only a handful of good units (T-90S, Yuckjeondae, B-5, Type 63), which I guess is still stronger than ANZACs lmao
Best faction to spam 40 pt 7700 range mortars due to availability
You haven't lived until you send 6 55 pt migs to intercept a Rafale
Boshongsu in korshuns make decent open field support and meat shielding for your T-90 advance
Elite brt-80a wrek
Huge IGLA availability in nice transports
flame tanks are boss
I wish quantity over quality was a legitimate option for the air. As it is, even with superior micro, your 6 migs will often not get their target and half will likely not return.
I will trade 3 55 pt migs for a 180 pt super asf all day long. Before that ever happens you best believe I'm going to sweep over you heli opener and collect 200 pts in huey transports too.
>WP and NK having their AA made of plentiful Soviet systems or clones of that they had access to for decades
>Honcrops, Scandi, and bongwealth get by protoype special snowflake AA peices or shit from the fucking 90s
IR missiles only. Theoretically you could use it with ARH missiles if you're within the range that the seeker can acquire a lock by itself I guess, don't think it works in DCS though. Does the R-77 even have a bore sight fire mode like the AIM-120?
So the R27ET right? and locking and shooting those with the IRST doesn't give any warnings right?
Anyway to check if the target is a friendly using IRST, or do i have to flip on radar real quick.
Correct, no warning.
Yes, you have to either blip your radar quick or be able to ID the target in some other way such as knowing where all of your friendlies are, having a wing man/AWACS ID the target for you, or visual ID.
>Watching AS2G 2v2 tournament on twitch
>Russian team gets caught stream sniping
>Because one of the two is too retarded to not sign onto twitch on a different account and ends up showing up on the viewer list.
Just a coincidence, goyim.
On the topic of flight simulation:
How many years until we get an F-35 simulator? 15+?
The 91.9km slant range thermal camera alone would be insanely hard to handle.
It's funny because one of the slavboos(with 'comrade' in their name, no less) in chat tried to defend them the whole time afterwards with bullshit like 'they were probably just in for the chat!'
Because that's totally normal for competitors in a tournament.
Just finished the 1st mission of the new F15 red flag campaign.
Its ok but seems to be lacking, I was hoping for alot of radio chatter for immersion but its just Wags and ATC you ever hear.
The entire range has been split in two with a Russian invasion of Ukraine scenario (red occupy west and blue east) with strict airspace and ROE restrictions, there is also quite a bit of "fluff" to go along with the missions in the pdf variety which somewhat helps the immersion.
>mfw Slavboos don't realize just how fucking stupid actual Russians are.
The iciing on the cake is that they actually went to defend themselves by claiming they weren't stream sniping
....In Assault Squad's lobby chat before anyone actually brought it up in-game.
This one looks like it will be very straightforward.
I refuse to believe everyone pays up to the happy merchant that refuses to sell his game on steam just out of stubbornness.
The amount commercial shipping out here (at 2100?!) is making this difficult.
HMS Revenge had a sonar contact but now no one can find the damn thing.
I have Sea Kings in the area using dipping sonar and Nimrods dropping sonobuoys everywhere. I briefly had contact again, for about 3 minutes, and then it's gone again. I don't know enough about submarine behavior to figure out what he's doing down there. What would a Soviet nuclear sub be doing a low depth, only showing up on sonar for a few minutes every 15 minutes?
It would seriously hamper the way the scenario is scored.
The answer is, he was distracting 90% of my ASW assets while a fucking sub-hunter was trawling up behind. HOW DID NONE OF THE AIRCRAFT IN THE AREA SPOT THIS FUCKER?
Sub-hunter did serious damage to the HMS Revenge, but at this point I just have to get out of the area. I can't re-task everything because there are definitely other subs out there. What a clusterfuck. HMS Plymouth is engaging and likely to sink it.
It is Command: Modern Air/Naval Operations (CMANO).
Also I'm using the editor to set up an ASW mission to automate this shit.
I have no idea what the 1/3 rule is, though.
Upside Nimrods just bagged a Russkie sub.
It means that you aren't sending up all your aircraft at once (with the 1/3rd rule on) only a third go out at a time so you have a continuous strike happening, rather than all at once.
The 1/3 rule makes sure only 1/3 of the aircraft assigned to a mission are airborne at once. It's useful for long-term missions like AWACS or Tanker patrols. The rule basically automates rotating aircraft through to make sure something is airborne and operating at all times so you don't have gaps in your coverage.
According to the devs,
"If a tanker is airborne, aircraft that can refuel from it (and have their doctrine option "use refuel" set to YES) will base their bingo calculations on it and not their home base."
Well not much to report over the past bit. Just slowly escorting Revenge to the patrol area. We've dropped enough sonobuoys out here you could walk back to Scotland.
And that's a wrap. Revenge safely on station. Quick preview of next mission. Will continue posting my progress through the campaign if people are into it.
Stop lying. Of course getting them patched to the latest version is a different matter.
Well it's more of a case I learn these types of wargames by seeing step by step tutorials for missions then playing them myself. Maybe just get super detailed with the screen shots?
Fingers crossed kameraden.
Next time I play a scenario I'll try to be thorough. In the meantime, Baloogan is a good choice for education.
Yeah, I've watched these. It becomes more of a case of the finer elements of the game, though.
Also, is there anything to not make the map look like shit? What are some essential mods beyond the scenarios, data, and picture mods?
That's all I play with. The game is never going to look good.
Sorry guys, I'm just the guy from a few threads back who got fed up with people claiming there are no CM torrents. I downloaded them but I'm not too interested in CM games
as of now. Too busy tanking and flying.
Afghanistan and Normandy do seem to work though, at least getting into the first mission was without any problems. But that's where I stopped.
>Anything that you would not consider “normal“.
Well, alright then.
I love em. I'd take em in DCS over some of the more boring choices
>Is ralfi your youtube hero?
This is a joke right?
>When was he NOT a turboshill?
Dunno, I don't remember his old shit being this obviously full shill. Then again, it's been a while since I've watched any of his stuff.
>Where to put ralfidude?
I find his stuff entertaining. One day I'll shoot him down.
>tfw no Crimson Skies wargame

Command: Modern Air/Naval Operations (CMANO). Specifically the Northern Inferno expansion.
DCS should be played alone by yourself in singleplayer while sitting in the /wgg/ teamspeak muted. Air quake is for 104th shitters. SU-27 is god's plane.
>SU-27 fly's worse than the mig 21
This plane handles like dogshit, the missiles are dogshit, and the autopilot is dogshit. Why the fuck would you guys shill this plane. No Wonder people like the f-15.
Hope you like Panzer Korps
Asshole from /k/ trying to get into Red Dragon here.
Is the Sheridan and Swedish StuG worth the activation points?
>Fire support only, otherwise no.
The Sheridan ACAV is also pretty decent for a combat recon
The 103C will also wipe the floor with T-72B1s, but it's only worth it when using a mixed deck since the 103D is so much better.
>more shit although of questionable quality on other sites than “sas“
I dont know senpai... yes, most stuff is more or less real but some again isnt. There even is a jumo222 powered ta 152 somewhere for the very sanic among us
>he missiles are dogshit, and the autopilot is dogshit.
Bugged and glitched shit that ED's never going to fix.
Actually the autopilot (apart from heading hold) is fucked on every plane that has it.
>most stuff is more or less real but some again isnt
My point was that most of the shit you get in IL-2 and mods is nowhere as crazy as the Triebflugel, the Salamander version of the Mistel, or even shit from the emergency fighter program like the Pe.1078 or the parasite fighters that were meant to be dropped by an Arado Blitz, or that rocket launched point defense interceptor that killed its test pilot and never flew ever again.
>more shit although of questionable quality on other sites than “sas“
Where, and what kind of shit are we talking about?
>tfw dont have my computer right now with my tons of 40k stuff
>and what kind of shit are we talking about?
You still haven't answered that. A list of planes would be nice.
I like how AllAircraftArcade was basically the "modding mafia" - as in, modding tools weren't available to the public and even if you did manage to get them by sucking the mods' dick your shit was still subject to scrutiny before it would get added to the game.
>tovaridj am the idea
>what is ivan

Dont mistake AAA with AAS.
And go ahead and check german and japanese single engine aircraft.
Just on the first german page i can see:
>bf209II (the one that wasnt built)
While not as. Fancy as some napkinwaffe jets, many didnt exist irl. But i should also say that i enjoy some “what if“ if it makes sense. This stuff so far is ok.
Interestingly enough that Q&A with a retired A10 pilot from a couple threads ago was asked about the future of CAS aircraft and he believed that there is need for a dedicated CAS plane, something the F35 couldn't do, he even mentioned maybe a prop plane something like the super tucano.
In my dreams or when they release mod support for Red Dragon.
So in my dreams
You could've said that "german and japanese single engine aircraft" is in SAS, not on AAS. As I already said I didn't find jackshit on AAS. The stuff I found on SAS seems to be already included in the megapacks, for the most part anyway.
>tfw you need those last few deployment points
Played the Border Patrol mission in Steel Beasts today. After a short skirmish I won handily, the fighting got brutal. My Marders, Piranhas, and their dismount teams tried, but they just couldn't hold up to the oncoming tide of enemy armor. They knocked out a couple of platoons of BMPs before they went down at least.
We're being raided and the janitors are doing absolutely fuckall about it, how nice. Might as well call in the rest of the cancer brigade while you're at it, like /wotg/, /wowsg/, /wtg/ and /aceg/
My Leopard 2s were worth more than their weight in gold, however. We smashed at least a company and a half of T-72s and T-80Us before being overwhelmed. My vehicle took at least six sabots and a couple of ATGMs to finally kill, and they nailed the XO's tank when he had to reload. At the time of my death I had two sabots left, and no HEAT.
whats the max ammo capacity for reference
A raid you say. By whom?
After my initial team died, I gained control of a company minus of Leopard 2A4s and some recon tracks, and we turned the enemy breakthrough into a killing field.
I started the mission with 31 Sabot and 11 HEAT, with 1 Sabot in the gun, 11 Sabot and 3 HEAT in the ready magazine. Everything else was in the deep magazine, which requires you to turn you turret to the rear (like 7 o'clock) to access it.
After killing the rest of the enemy assault force, I took my company along the enemy path of attack to mop up any stragglers and to link up with a distant border post to make sure nothing was sneaking up on them. There's a platoon of Leopard 2A4s on my left, another on my right, and a platoon of recon tracks a few hundred meters ahead, hidden by the fog.
At the end of the mission I'd lost 8 units and destroyed 65, stopping the enemy cold after they destroyed my first responders. The mission lasted 65 minutes, but the most intense fighting was in the first few minutes of the enemy attack.
This terrain was pretty open, unfortunately. I started the fight near the wrecks of a friendly patrol we'd been sent to find, which was in pretty open ground. There were a few low hills the enemy could use to mask the initial part of their approach, and I had a lot of open ground to retreat through with the initial team I commanded. My infantry transports died pretty fast, and the Leopards didn't last too much longer after running out of ammo. I should have pulled out way sooner, but I misjudged it and got whacked. The fog was actually a big advantage for me, as it reduced visibility to 500 meters. Since my thermals could see right through it, I had a huge advantage over the initial waves of T-72M1s they sent in. Once the T-80s started coming at us it was a more even fight, and then the numbers started to tell.
With the Leopard 2A4 company, I just advanced and killed everything as soon as I could see it and get a gun on target.
Nope, I just had a huge advantage in the initial part of the engagement because the first few platoons of tanks were an older model of T-72 and I could shoot them before they saw me in the fog. Once they got fixed in place and started going for battle positions to fight me, I called in a bunch of ICM artillery fire missions on them.
What's the point? It'd be a boring reskin. No melee, no RPG elements(Does the engine even SUPPORT shit like actives?), no buffs like auras or wargear, no nothing that makes warhammer warhammer.
Yeah, I'm completely shit at Wargame, though I love the idea of it. I'd like some objective-based player vs CPU skirmishes though, like comp-stomp versions of European Escalation's campaign missions or something.
How about you guys make a guide for wannabe wargamers, since we already have a guide for Eugene babbies and a pastebin for planefags (to which I contributed to some extent)? I'd be interested with getting in the genre but I have no idea where to start from (and the games I want to give a try to can't be pirated anyways).
So has anybody bought le baguettejet yet? I like interceptors and it would be nice to fly something besides the MiG-21 when I'm not in the mood for a vodka-cooled slavshit Lada with wings, but I assume that getting it now in really early beta is not worth it at all.
>Armored Warfare lets you get away with this stuff scot free
Rate my deck WGG
It's lacking in support that will stun large amounts of enemy forces. Aside from that, what do you think about it?
flags look weird / 10
In an earlier thread, people had laughed at my use of FaceTrack with PointTracker 1.0 API. Was there a reason this was a point of derision? I have FreeTrack as well, but it crashes as soon as I try to use my camera.
Probably because you were having issues and then when you mentioned what you were using... well you get it.
But if its working fine then great.
The T-72M1 is in and fully modeled, complete with IR night sight and everything labeled in cyrillic There's a bunch of other european vehicles as well, along with the M1A2(SEPV2)
You don't actually have to spend $100 on it. That's the own it forever, get a USB license dongle version. Paid content patches usually come out every 1.5 to 2 years, and they cost somewhere along the lines of $25 to $40. When you buy the $100 license, you get everything that's been released to that point. Hardware changes won't mess up your license.
If you don't want to spend that much money, you can get a time limited license at one of three price points:
~$10 for one month
~$25 for four months
~$40 for one year
They include any paid updates that come out during that term, but are bound to only the first computer they're installed on. If you have a hardware change or need to reformat, try contacting customer service. Unless you see yourself playing the game three years down the line, a time limited license may be the best way to check it out. The hard thing there is that many games, while being wargames, are very different. Combat Mission and Close Combat are very different from hex games. You could list the titles that are easier to get into as an introduction to the genre, but then you'd basically have to write a guide for every game.

Yeah, a lot of folks just use keyboard and mouse. Mouse is actually superior for aiming as it acts like a virtual joystick and reads finer adjustments than a joystick does.
