I used to hate DDS for its dungeons and the high encounter rate. But damn, the endgame is pretty good, and learning the last few mantras to build my ultimate party is pretty fun.
So, /smtg/, you happy that I am doing this? I would rather myself and others play DDS2 instead of the embedded snes version in KMT.
In P1/2s since you can't fuse Personae, just get rid of them for an item.
That being said, in P2, don't get rid of any character specific ones. I don't think P1 has the same mechanic for ultimate's, but I don't fully remember.
Yeah, sorry PAL. Starting with Famicom first since it's easier. Just ROOT for me as I update in this thread, and with my enhanced experience I might do it. I have had
Persona Revelations PSXon my mind, or SMT9. I do also want to do square no tom sawyer on famicom since my waifu Amy is in it.
Meanwhile, posting progress.
>tfw barely any bites to work with sometimes
I find myself condensing the fuck out of sentences just to fit the damn thing in, but so far it hasn't caused a major issue.
kek. I meant bytes. I have been up for too long evidently.
The positive reactions so far are what keep me going, anon. Thanks. Also, this track is pretty great.
I used to refresh agtp's site everyday, long ago to see if it would go above 80% and I checked just now and it's still 80%. I wonder what's going on, that's a shame. Seeing as how they're at 80% though I don't know if it's worth attempting, but I would like to try my hand at SNES as well after getting gud at famicom.
I want 500,000 magnetite now actually or else I'll stop the translation.
I don't really know man. Learn hex editing, and the vast array of debug tools that FCEUX offers will make the process easier. Prior to that I did only just a bit of text hacking in OOT and CT but this is my first translation. There's this really good tool called tile layer pro I think that let's you modify PPUs for nes, snes, etc. You could insert the english alphabet into the ppu and start throwing in english letters into a japanese game by hex editing. Programming tools for yourself makes it easier too. I wish Snes9x had debug tools like fceux too.
They're all pretty solid; just pick one you like the look/aesthetic/gameplay of. If there's one thing I enjoy about SMT games, it's that they're generally very consistent in terms of grappling with similar themes and big ideas about mythological apocalypses, the nature of man, and the struggle between Law and Chaos.
I was really pleasantly surprised for example at the depth of the story and themes in Devil Survivor despite the cutesy Yasuda skin; it's a true SMT entry despite sharing a similar modern anime aesthetic to Persona (which is more about typical character themes of self-discovery and self-actualization). I think the 2nd DeSu game goes in a wrong direction but I haven't played it extensively.
One key thing you may want to consider is length/difficulty, though - in which case I believe IV is considered one of the easier ones, but I'm not really sure how to rank Devil Survivor, Strange Journey, and Soul Hackers after that.
Alright then, I'll try IV. Thanks.
I was thinking of trying Soul Hackers but I don't really have any idea what to expect in terms of anything when it comes to SMT. I'll do IV first and see what happens. Difficulty isn't something I'm too deeply concerned about either way.
Pretty new to SMT. I just finished Nocturne and I've started playing Digital Devil Saga. I played a melee build in Nocturne and I heard from a lot of people that magic wasn't as viable. Does this hold true for DDS as well? I've only leveled up a few times so far adj I pumped all acquired stat points into strength.
Go nuts in DDS. Any build is viable. You can even go hybrid or something.
>magic build in Nocturne
Maybe I should try one with Magma Axis and Fire Boost.
How do you shift alignments in smt 1
Hoy, dont die on me
Man I loved using Huoniao in IV. Their design made me take them to level 80, and use against Lucy. Dealing 4 digit damage with one double boosted Concentrated Trisagion is fun.
Also, nice comfy image.
early morning where I am, people will show up in an hour or two.
Godspeed senpai-sama. It isn't possible to expand the ROM or anything like that to get some more data to work with? That's probably a bit higher-level though.
God luck and hopefully we see some MJT or some DS1 translated.
Yes, healing at the Messia will raise your alignment towards them, likewise for Gaia.
>Can I still access army base once I kill Thor and return post nuke
No, the JSDF base is blown out.
Going to play Digital Devil Saga for the first time today after work, what are some things I should know before starting?
tfw you'll never have a qt debisama to challenge in Last Bible or trade with in Devil Children
Well fuck me, guess I should have checked that first. Thanks.
Well, I probably should have tested this before I got everyone's hopes up, but I'm an impulsive idiot.
The fatal issue for the Strange Journey WAD is that Kaneko draws people, whereas ID draws densely packed, vaguely human shaped beef. It doesn't help that even the DS's miserable resolution puts Doom to shame, so you get heavily compressed artwork with a fucked up aspect raidou.
It would be possible to make a Strange Journey WAD, however it would require 100% original spritework to match the style and technical constraints of Doom. Unfortunately, I'm shit with pixel art so I won't be doing this. Sorry guys.
i just beat SMT4 for the first time, i thought i was going a Neutral route, but i just went nihilistic, i didn't even know this was an ending. what the hell happen, where did i go wrong
You made the right choice to destroy everything.
You saved everyone from endless suffering. Well done, Messiah
>Going with the White doesn't delete your save data.
I gave a shot at translating Megaten2 few months ago myself - made a font and tables, translated Pixie and then kinda forgot about it. It looks like you have made much more progress, and you have better tools anyway, so good luck, anon!
Also, MT2 music -> KMT music.
Have you seen what has been done to /smtg/'s theme song yet, anon?
so pretty much every game on Nintendo's handhelds
You missed out on a bunch of content and from being able to fuse god-tier endgame demons, well done.
I'm glad I don't live in your game's universe.
Hm? You're not referring to Devil Story 1 on Famicom, right? There's already a great translation for that, and I can confirm myself that it works on hardware using ED.
>expanding the ROM
This is definitely possible, but out of the scope of my knowledge. My assembly is shit, but I'm bucking up on that shit.
Also, text compression is going be scary.
I think I've been playing too many SMT games at once these days. I don't know if I should finish DDS1 (I just beat Jinana, I think I must return to the Maribel's base and Gale just joined my party) or DeSu Overclocked first (I'm in the 1st day), and I'm tempted to start Persona PSP. I'm more interested in DDS1 at the moment and I'm pretty sure I've progressed more in this game than in DeSu Overclocked so I'll try to finish this one first. Doesn't help that I also have a copy of Nocturne and that I'm going to buy Raidou 1 soon, and maybe try to get P2 Eternal Punishment once I manage to get an American PSN card and create a new account.
I wish I discovered these games earlier, when I had enough time to play them one by one.
I'm sorry if I'm not being coherent right now but I'm very tired
Here's my WIP DDS2 table for Gold Finger:
Also, the lowercase font I made is based on an old screenshot from romhacking.net of a patch that never was finished.
Yeah, but the issue is that they modernised the OST which kinda ruins the mood
Compared to Nocturne Phys on DDS was nerfed on the second game it is almost useless because Magic will almost always deal more damage and the Magic Mantras will unlock the best passive and combo skills.
Looks good dude. Better than the shit I dragged and dropped lel, and I also don't support case-sensitivety. Would you want me to use it on my project? I think it looks nice. I would definitely have to change my java program and edit all the translations I made but I don't think that will be too bad.
Goddamnit man of course you were talking about Devil summoner 1. I have always wanted that one to be translated but it seems like its being left in the dust sadly. Wouldn't care if it was psp or saturn, any would be fine.
Sure, go ahead.
Btw, EsperKnight and Debisama translator are working on the translation patch for the PSP version of Devil Summoner:
The SS version is like a hard mode by default, negotiation and enemies are stronger, and equipment is slightly weaker. Plus there's no compendium.
PSP version is like the "normal" version and also runs much faster.
what level should i be for matador, and other than nozuchi and using the Hifumi matagama, what other prep should i use? i heard fog breath is good but matador's agility cant go down according to the wiki.
>Hahaha...! You have already bested Tenkai. I have no desire to be struck down.
So wait, is this guy implying two things here?
1) Tenkai is stronger than him, since he's afraid you just because you beat him.
2) You're stronger then Strange Journey's protagonist, since he had no problem fighting him.
Also why is he so chill when you side with the demons in this game when he lost it in Strange Journey? Is it that he thinks he has some grand scheme in this game too, then it never comes to be because his chance never comes and he just fades into the background?
The thing is, in SJ when the expanse opened and he was sent by God, he thought that was THE chance to revive Him. That's why he goes batshit at the end and attacks you. By the time SMT4 comes around he understands that as long as he stays alive he'll keep getting chances, so he avoids confrontation with you and even if you come back later on the chaos route he just laughs at it and says whatever.
Now that YHVH is pretty much confirmed to appear in SMT4: Final, we shouldn't be surprised if Mastema gets a major role again since he'll no doubt want to capitalize on this opportunity of YHVH's revival.
Been on a recent binge for SMT shit in general these past few days, and I'm going on to play Strange Journey after having done a Low Level Hard Mode Run of Nocturne.
Is there anything I should expect or be wary of before jumping right on in?
I just want to be sure you're aware- every enemy has about 50-60 unique frames to cover standing, walking, attacking, and dying from 5 different angles (sometimes all 8 if they're asymmetrical). With 18+ demons (not including weapons, props, and scenery) you're looking at over 900 sprites.
Making a WAD is over 99% spritework and less than 1% implementation. I know nothing about coding and I still got a program up and running within 5 minutes that lets you freely insert any artwork you want (Slade).
If you honestly have the skill and patience for assets on that scale, inserting them into a WAD is virtually no work at all.
The boss in the food sector is AN ANNOYING PIECE OF SHIT. He fucking runs after every hit across the map and you have to find invisible paths and shit to find him again and again. Stick through that part and the rest is ok.
Fucking Tyrant Horkus.
I'm not him, and I don't mean to understate the work required, but it might be easier to photoshop existing sprites to look like SMT sprites rather than completely redoing them from the ground up. That would probably cut a lot of time for each sprite, but 900 or so is still a butt ton.
>but it might be easier to photoshop existing sprites to look like SMT sprites rather than completely redoing them from the ground up
The problem there is that there are very few sprites to work with. The only sprites to use would be the ones that have been in use since Devil Summoner, and those are usually static poses with little movement. And you'd still have to design movement, attacking, and dying sprites for all the other directions that the existing sprite doesn't cover.
I mean change the existing doom sprite to look more like the SMT sprite. That way you wouldn't have to figure out new movements, just change each frame of the existing movement. It would still be a hell of a lot of work though.
Ah, now I comprehend.
I think the anon was wanting to do a simple reskin first, so this would be an easier solution.
Still a lot of work, though. Some of the demon's designs really lend itself to SMT demons. You could easily draw an Oni over an Imp or Belial over an Archvile, for instance.
usually don't care when people mess up names/spellings, but this series has ALOT of demons, so having the right name is important for preserving the ability to search the names over on the wiki to find out which demon someone is talking about.
I'm still going to finish KMT because of how cozy it is, but more food to feed the hunger is always appreciated. Best of luck, hardcore hacker.
I want Gate-anon back, or at least for someone to point me in the direction of some first person dungeon crawler creator. I wanna make stuff
Gate-anon used Game Maker from what I understand. I think it'd be completely possible to make an SMT-esque game in it.
Also, RPG Maker might be able to pull it off, based on this video I found on YouTube.
>Persuade Keisuke instead of beating up Yama in DeSu
>Midori leaves and later attacks together with Kaido
>After they lose and licks their wounds on 6th day they actually have chemistry
Fucking hell, didn't expect that.
IMO if 3 would ever come, it should focus more on some survival aspect and include a little bit more in nature, rather than just the cities
What's this about a fucking skype group taking everyone from here? They can't take me, that's for sure.
I think this time around he knows that it's better to play nice and use you for his own schemes. Like killing other angels. His ultimate goal is for daddy YHVH to notice him, so after SJ he probably figured out that humanity wasn't the main thing preventing that and freaking out and fighting us is pointless.
The gameplay alone should be what makes you keep going.
If this is not your case, Nocturne is not for you.
>buy 1TB external hard drive
>planned on using it for megaten lets plays/walkthroughs
>computer doesn't fucking read it
The little light turns on and off. Sometimes it stays off. When my computer does acknowledge it's plugged in, it won't actually let me access it. And here I was, hoping I could finally start Lets Playing all the MegaTens.
>And here I was, hoping I could finally start Lets Playing all the MegaTens.
Ah man, no good deed goes unpunished. I'll pray to YHVH it starts working.
although in the grand scheme it is random, each encountered demon has a preset answer to each question choice decided a the start of the fight. so if something doesn't work, try something else with that particular demon.
Depends on the game. In IV negotiations seem random, though not as much as Nocturne.
In Strange Journey the answers yield the same result if you are the same alignment. Same in 1
During my whole first playthrough I thought that "end talks" was just to end negotiating and keep fighting the demons instead, even though I never tried it. I had a hard time recruiting demons, until I tried that in my second playthrough. Thinking about it still makes me feel stupid.
Started DDS1 on /smtg/'s recommendation and
>God tier soundtrack
>Some of the best video game environments of all time
>Kaneko on point
>Neat transformation and cannibalism mechanics
But holy fucking shit these cutscenes, I feel like I'm watching some kind of Naruto-tier soap opera. It's like they sat around and tried to pack as much anime cliche into every square second of cutscenes as humanly possible.
Yeah I get it, some of it is because they're in the Matrix but I'm cringing hard enough to shit out my spine over this Maribel stuff
It's worth playing for the gameplay and art design, but wow do I hope this character shit improves.
I haven't died yet folks! Practically battles and the 8th/7th floor of Dadealus have been translated, as well as a bunch of the main green area. I'll probably upload a webm later. One issue I'm finding with battles are, with pic related, if you were to direct your eyes to the command list, these are not easy to track down.
>hanasu (or wanasu, not sure)
Trying to obviously translated those to
>Speak or Talk
Really hoping this doesn't slow me done.
I just encountered a textbox that has 92 bytes available. This will be fun, since I can finally for once not condense the translation.
How's the alignment on SH? After DeSu I feel like going back to good ol' law vs chaos please.
Terrible Nocturne player from the other day.
I beat Matador and have reached Ikebukuro safely. Now that I have my demon compendium, most of my problems should be solved. Cheers for the advice, but I didn't even need to lower his Evasion to beat him. I am legitimately ashamed he gave me so much trouble when he's such an easy battle.
Now even the random battles are punishing me, but that's not really an issue.
I do have two questions though.
Can I get Moh Shuvuu in Nocturne and level her up to use in endgame?
Is it called Nocturne or Lucifer's Call?
Can someone give me some tips as to what settings to use in DDS with PCSX2?
I'm getting small freezes when entering random battles and after initiating attacks sometimes.
Huh, makes sense. Thanks for the help anon.
This one? Because that's exactly what I wanted.
