I used to refresh agtp's site everyday, long ago to see if it would go above 80% and I checked just now and it's still 80%. I wonder what's going on, that's a shame. I don't really know man. Learn hex editing, and the vast array of debug tools that FCEUX offers will make the process easier. Prior to that I did only just a bit of text hacking in OOT and CT but this is my first translation. There's this really good tool called tile layer pro I think that let's you modify PPUs for nes, snes, etc. You could insert the english alphabet into the ppu and start throwing in english letters into a japanese game by hex editing. Programming tools for yourself makes it easier too. I wish Snes9x had debug tools like fceux too.

They're all pretty solid; just pick one you like the look/aesthetic/gameplay of. If there's one thing I enjoy about SMT games, it's that they're generally very consistent in terms of grappling with similar themes and big ideas about mythological apocalypses, the nature of man, and the struggle between Law and Chaos.

I was really pleasantly surprised for example at the depth of the story and themes in Devil Survivor despite the cutesy Yasuda skin; it's a true SMT entry despite sharing a similar modern anime aesthetic to Persona (which is more about typical character themes of self-discovery and self-actualization). I think the 2nd DeSu game goes in a wrong direction but I haven't played it extensively.

One key thing you may want to consider is length/difficulty, though - in which case I believe IV is considered one of the easier ones, but I'm not really sure how to rank Devil Survivor, Strange Journey, and Soul Hackers after that.

Well, I probably should have tested this before I got everyone's hopes up, but I'm an impulsive idiot.

The fatal issue for the Strange Journey WAD is that Kaneko draws people, whereas ID draws densely packed, vaguely human shaped beef. It doesn't help that even the DS's miserable resolution puts Doom to shame, so you get heavily compressed artwork with a fucked up aspect raidou.

It would be possible to make a Strange Journey WAD, however it would require 100% original spritework to match the style and technical constraints of Doom. Unfortunately, I'm shit with pixel art so I won't be doing this. Sorry guys.

I think I've been playing too many SMT games at once these days. I don't know if I should finish DDS1 (I just beat Jinana, I think I must return to the Maribel's base and Gale just joined my party) or DeSu Overclocked first (I'm in the 1st day), and I'm tempted to start Persona PSP. I'm more interested in DDS1 at the moment and I'm pretty sure I've progressed more in this game than in DeSu Overclocked so I'll try to finish this one first. Doesn't help that I also have a copy of Nocturne and that I'm going to buy Raidou 1 soon, and maybe try to get P2 Eternal Punishment once I manage to get an American PSN card and create a new account.

I wish I discovered these games earlier, when I had enough time to play them one by one. I'm sorry if I'm not being coherent right now but I'm very tired

The thing is, in SJ when the expanse opened and he was sent by God, he thought that was THE chance to revive Him. That's why he goes batshit at the end and attacks you. By the time SMT4 comes around he understands that as long as he stays alive he'll keep getting chances, so he avoids confrontation with you and even if you come back later on the chaos route he just laughs at it and says whatever.
Now that YHVH is pretty much confirmed to appear in SMT4: Final, we shouldn't be surprised if Mastema gets a major role again since he'll no doubt want to capitalize on this opportunity of YHVH's revival.

Been on a recent binge for SMT shit in general these past few days, and I'm going on to play Strange Journey after having done a Low Level Hard Mode Run of Nocturne.

Is there anything I should expect or be wary of before jumping right on in?

I just want to be sure you're aware- every enemy has about 50-60 unique frames to cover standing, walking, attacking, and dying from 5 different angles (sometimes all 8 if they're asymmetrical). With 18+ demons (not including weapons, props, and scenery) you're looking at over 900 sprites.

Making a WAD is over 99% spritework and less than 1% implementation. I know nothing about coding and I still got a program up and running within 5 minutes that lets you freely insert any artwork you want (Slade).

If you honestly have the skill and patience for assets on that scale, inserting them into a WAD is virtually no work at all.

The problem there is that there are very few sprites to work with. The only sprites to use would be the ones that have been in use since Devil Summoner, and those are usually static poses with little movement. Still a lot of work, though. Some of the demon's designs really lend itself to SMT demons. You could easily draw an Oni over an Imp or Belial over an Archvile, for instance.

Started DDS1 on /smtg/'s recommendation and

But holy fucking shit these cutscenes, I feel like I'm watching some kind of Naruto-tier soap opera. It's like they sat around and tried to pack as much anime cliche into every square second of cutscenes as humanly possible.

Yeah I get it, some of it is because they're in the Matrix but I'm cringing hard enough to shit out my spine over this Maribel stuff

It's worth playing for the gameplay and art design, but wow do I hope this character shit improves.

I haven't died yet folks! Practically battles and the 8th/7th floor of Dadealus have been translated, as well as a bunch of the main green area. I'll probably upload a webm later. One issue I'm finding with battles are, with pic related, if you were to direct your eyes to the command list, these are not easy to track down.

Terrible Nocturne player from the other day.

I beat Matador and have reached Ikebukuro safely. Now that I have my demon compendium, most of my problems should be solved. Cheers for the advice, but I didn't even need to lower his Evasion to beat him. I am legitimately ashamed he gave me so much trouble when he's such an easy battle.

Now even the random battles are punishing me, but that's not really an issue.

I do have two questions though.
Can I get Moh Shuvuu in Nocturne and level her up to use in endgame?
