I'd actually recommend Virion for the job over him because although he hits their higher defense stat, he gets a Killer Bow. Also, he murders pesky Pegasus Knights later in the game.

High recommendations aren't required, but they provide a lot of utility and usually turn out great

Useful units have ways in which they can contribute without taking too many resources.

Situational units aren't as good as the above but are superior to those below

Not recommended units are either outclassed or just a liability compared to other units. They may have a use or free deployment, but lack long term viability without severe help.

I was thinking about this really. What if IK is done when after the initial choice and the first chapter in IK that you have to make a choice on who to get to first out of Sakura or Elise and then if you choose one, you can get the other later(though with altered difficulty like higher levels/skills, enemy placements and drop items/chests). It would be unique in the way that you have to make a choice on who to get first so that they can get levels and experience and supports built up. Of course there would be interludes where you do stuff like Kotaro and the Rainbow Sage but you get to pick and choose which royal and their retainers you get first(though you'll get them all eventually).

Once again, the plot of Fates would have been better served if rather than Garon being a villain, Hydra decides to fuck around with Kamui.

Kamui gets the Yato through a chain of events and the Nohr and Hoshido are forced too war and that's where Kamui decides.

Hydra is manipulating both sides but because he's a dick he decides "I'll let him pick his army and I'll pick mine" and whichever side you don't pick, Hydra manifests as the resurrection of that countries dragon, basically egging that side on to war more and more.

You end up driving him away in Nohr and Hoshido without really killing him and threatening him because this entire war was all just a game to him.

You can even just make the Faceless be creatures that emerge from the Infinite Chasm that both sides blame on the other because of a legend Hydra made.
