I AM SO FUCKIN' MAD AND BAD AT MGO.

I was so psyched to play this evening I warmed up with some single player was really keen based on those gameplay videos they showed.

But it is just fucked beyond belief! Everyone runs around at the speed of sound and you can't tell what the fuck is going to happen when you get near someone.

I've snuck up and grabbed a guy and been grabbed instead.

I went to drop down onto of someone like god damn Sam Fisher and it didn't do shit - when someone is on the ground both players just sort of do this fuckery dance.

My buddy tranq'd a guy near me, but as I'm fultoning he just sort of starts doing the animations for getting up - so I'm standing point blank emptying tranq darts into the fucker and punching him but he keeps getting up. Then during one of the animations while I had him grabbed his gun went off into my face.

Gears of War had the right idea with flanking in 3rd person games - the camera was zoomed in tight and you couldn't run one direction while looking the other.

I'm less mad now that I've blamed the game. Actually no I'm still mad for failing a flawless non-lethal no-alert FOB in the last five metres of the four platforms twice.

To be fair though the codec calls explained a lot of bullshit that didn't make sense in the cutscenes.
I don't have an example ready but I clearly remember a lot of conversations that went something like "hey snake, remember that thing I said? Well it's actually the other way around"
Though I wouldn't say that kojima is a hack, his biggest fault imo (and that may have been forced by the producers) was listen too much to fan complaints after mgs2.
Mgs3 turned out fine, but mgs4 is just fanservice althrough (people complained about the unexplained stuff and everything got explained with asspulls, people liked big boss so he comes back, people complained about raiden so he became linkin park AMV fuel, people complained about not being able to pick up enemy weapons so you get 70+weapons with modding and a pause menu shop that completely destroys the game balance etc.)
People still complained about old snake which was possibly the only thing in that game that didn't come out of a gamefaqs poll and about the lenght of the cutscenes, so big boss in mgsv looks just as young as he was in pw and it has little to no cutscenes. People complained that pw had too many mech battles so mgsv has exactly one and so on.
The older games were not any kind of high literature by any standard, but they at least felt genuine. The later games feel like they were written by a committee of businessmen. I still like them though

MGS4, PW and V's quality can be explained for different reasons though.
4 was fanservice since Kojima wanted to be done with the series and wrap it up, it didn't help he was also depressed as hell during that period.
PW's story was limited by having to do comic book cutscenes, but the writing itself and tapes were fine.
V has no story, and doesn't try to, so it shouldn't even be counted, that's like criticizing a Mario game for its lack of story.
