You can go into first person to aim in Dark Souls you know. Well with normal bows anyways, you can't with crossbows until DS2.

And on top of that it wasn't designed with extremely long range sniping in mind or to compete with spells since those already break the game hard enough. It's a ranged option for non magic users to lure enemies in or force PVP opponents to come in closer, not a whole gameplay style.

Two things.

The first reason is that it's a subjective matter but in my opinion and the opinion of many others it's easily the best of those (that I've played, I haven't played DMC). I do like all of those that I've played save for Bayonetta, and in fact they're some of my favourite games, but Dark Souls is the cream of the crop. You throw an autistic shitfit here about Dark Souls on a daily basis, posting webms of the glitchiest shit in the games to prove your point, but said webms are cherrypicking- in fact, shit like that is way more common in monster hunter, which you clearly like or you wouldn't be here. See >>128595328 for several examples just based around one monster, in fact!

The other reason is marketing and fanbase. KF and AC were never really huge, and DeS was only somewhat popular because it was the only game PS3 had besides Little Big Planet. But DeS quickly became slightly more than a cult classic because of that, which was the leg up (along with being multiplat) Dark Souls needed to get wider attention, and it was marketed as being a hard game in which you'll die a lot when really it's a super forgiving game in which you'll die a lot. So it gained exposure to casual plebs, and also had a reputation for being hard when the average non-casual (as in, non-iphone) gamer could reasonably beat it, at least with co-op. Of course, game design also plays into this- If they hadn't done a good job of making it FEEL like you're up against preposterous challenges and accomplishing your goals nevertheless nobody would have bought the "hardcore" thing.

At yellow sharpness and below there's an additional sharpness penalty for hitting at the start or end of an attack, 0.7 and 0.6 respectively. Because of this it's almost never actually good to be at yellow, though I guess it might depend on the weapon a little.

It usually runs at 40 fps on n3ds with dips to 20 or even 5 (and spikes to 60, mostly in towns), and I've heard it runs at 20-30 on o3ds. Seriously, you're objectively wrong. Meanwhile DaS1 can maintain a consistent 30 fps if you're playing on pc, though running it higher results in some bugs, mostly with terrain physics; DaS2/SotFS works fine at 60 fps and can easily maintain that framerate even on a mediocre pc.

It takes more time and effort to make a narrative-driven game good, because you can't just build on what's already there, add some gimmicks and give it a spit-shine, which the devs of CoD and AC nonetheless try to do. In a narrative-driven game, gameplay is obviously still important, but if the narrative is shit the game will be shit.

MH can survive having new installments out constantly because it's primarily gameplay-driven. It's an arcade-style bossrush with almost all of the focus being on gameplay, and the setting and story have always been dumb and have never really factored into its appeal. All it needs to improve from generation to generation is a little bit better weapon mechanics, a new gimmick or two, maybe a new weapon type or two as well, and a few new monsters that are mostly very similar to existing monsters anyway but behave a little differently, to keep the hunts fresh.

What a game like Dark Souls or Assassin's Creed needs is an engaging underlying story to keep people interested in the same setting yet again while being different enough from the last (which isn't as much of a problem when they switch settings, of course), which has to be done pretty much from the ground up with each game, and a world with rich level design where the gameplay serves mainly as resistance to progression to immerse the player. That's a lot harder to do in a year than just building a fifth of a game's worth or less of gameplay mechanics onto an existing game.

To be fair I also compared it to Call of Duty, which despite being story-heavy is still mostly gameplay-driven. I just mentioned it because it's infamous for the whole "release a new game every year that's basically the same game as last year but with a new gun and even more bloom" thing.

Every boss is joke compared to something like Gores when it comes to complexity, mostly because the basic gameplay of Souls simply isn't very complex. Hitzones usually don't matter, you have a light and a heavy attack, all weapons play more or less the same, bosses rarely have as many different modes and attacks as MH bosses.

Rajang? Yeah, you can counter roars and tremors so you don't even really need Tremor Res if you git gud. You can even block the fuck you beam if you have Guard Boost on your set but it's hardly required.

Teostra, in theory I guess but I've always found it's way too mobile and explosion clouds way too tricky to block since you have to be facing the center of the explosion, not the monster. Plus you can't block an attack if you have Blastblight on you already, you have to stop drop and roll or else the next hit you block will just make you explode instead.

I bounce around between Guard/Evade Lance or GS a lot depending on the fight.

N3DS is approximately as powerful as a NES but it still runs MH with 40-60 FPS. It's about the developer's preferences. And if you unlock the framerate on PC, you have some huge problems only recent mods can help you with.
