I'd disagree about Flans. The only real blocks it adds are weapon boxes, basically shapeless crafting tables that give you guns if you have the right amount of materials. The vehicle content packs add engines and chairs and other fiddly bits to make vehicles (yay microcrafting), but even that's done with a vehicle crafting table. The official WW2 pack adds stationary machine guns you can place, but that's about it.

It's a combat mod, not a construction mod.

Could get a Growthcraft vineyard and/or brewery going in all that verdant courtyard space you've got. You've also got Growthcraft Bees which may or may not warrant a little apiary somewhere for all your mead needs.
Also, a metal smeltery with an automated furnace setup with hoppers to smelt large quantities of metal.
And a sort of Nexus with portals to the Nether and Twilight might be cool, too. Runic Dungeons features portals you have to build too, right? You could put those there as well.
An IE aero-/hydro-electric power plant would look nice and also prove quite helpful to you.
Make a big maid hotel to hold all your non-CustomNPC companions.
And if all else fails, a storage warehouse is never a bad thing to fill space with.

I could put portals on the large circular platform I suppose since its not being used for anything yet. Runic dungeons are ass to setup though.

I could whittle away some mountain and fake a stream to get hydro going, aero is more of a hassle and not worth the time spent setting it up.

Theres 16 of them into those little apartments, i've got a maid rec area planned for inside the main building though.

The dev mentioned in the forums they'd do their best to remain faithful. The 2.4 update even splits the mod in modules like the original dev did so you can ditch stuff you don't want.

The only differences I've noticed were a couple of new additions: the new hive recolors in >>128594123, yeast (no idea what that does yet), a culture jar (ditto) and a more convenient liquid container so you don't have to juggle empty and filled bottles.

I'm not entirely sure what you're asking, do you want to just be able to carry a horse in your inventory and bring it out when it's needed, then pocket it again when it's done its job?

Thaumic Horizons would be my choice, in that case.
Not only can you store horses (and literally any other mob) inside jars and unleash them at your convenience, you can turn them into ender horses who can teleport and hellhorses who don't give a shit about lava. You probably want to give them a reusuable jarring infusion so you don't have to keep spending jars though.

If tech's more your cup of tea, there's always MFR pokeballs, although that involves installing MFR.
Pretty sure Golden Lassos from Extra Utilities work on horses too.

If anyone has experience with immersive engineering, I'm trying to troubleshoot these watermills. I had them set up and running but moved my base, now I can't get them to produce power anymore.

The wheels are moving as they should so they aren't obstructed. But I just can't get any power from the dynamo. Bashed it with the hammer to rotate it all 4 possible ways, no output. Tried wire connectors from all available faces, nothing. Tried with fluxducts, nothing. Even putting an energy cell/capacitor right next to it does nothing no matter which side I use.

I'm at a loss as to why it isn't creating any power. When I first had them set up, I used a wire connector on the top of the dynamo, but that doesn't work anymore. I'm probably missing something obvious here.

You are right, the square right side needs to be touching the water wheels. The top can't be changed though, it seems to always be an output.

Anyway, it kinda works now. I set the square ring side properly and it did nothing. Left and did something else for a minute, went back to it producing power. I have no idea why there was such a delay, but at least its back up and running. Thanks m8.

Question: Did you put the kinetic generator down and then the wheels, or the wheels and then the generator?

If you did Wheels->Generator, redo it the other way around. Placing the wheels on the generator will cause the generator to "see" them, whereas if you put it on the wheels it doesn't know what it's looking for. IE is weird like that.

Alright so what Im playing is Hardcore with hard recipes, I have Sync and HQM, I wrote a bunch of quests for it and added some of the mats needed for the clones.
So far I've lost count how many times I've died and lost my world before I even made it to the 2nd day.
I had infernal mobs but I have to take it out because it was just way too much, mobs were way unbalanced. Also had to lower the spawn rate of Octoroks and a more than halve the spawn of the GoG mobs.
Still getting my ass handed to me D:
Its ruff to say the least.
All that being said, any thing you guys think I might be missing that would fit the sort of theme? anything that doenst look like it would go too well?

Also I need random phrases or sentences to use as seeds. I go through a lot of them :S

I use CombatFrogs on any site it's available. I use FightingAmphibians if it's not.


Tested to be compatible with Foundry for 1.8.9 btw. Modelled the copper/tin/lead/nickel/silver textures off its' because it seems to be "the" ore-gen mod for the time being.

Excessive microcrafting is not okay. A creative mod developer can figure out a way to keep a cost high without being tedious as fuck.

Even though thaumcraft is tedious at times, it has a good idea. If you want to make the powerful stuff, you not only need a set of items, you also have to have some source of disposable items to power the crafting. With proper control of how this works, for instance, you can make an item with a low material cost, but still gate it behind a certain type of resource.
You could even go as simple as to make a machine that says "give me 64 diamonds, 64 redstone blocks, 100 ender pearls, 30 blocks of iron for your item"

Items that are only used for crafting can be okay if they are use plentifully and the tree of items doesn't go down too deep. No Dimatrix Recombiners that turn into Auxilatratic Ion Arrays that become Oxidatic Boost Capacitors that become Tritenic EndgameFuckium. Basic resources to crafting component to goal item is ideal.

Agreed. This is the best course of action if you want to complicate production or increase material costs. Common parts used in different combinations for most of the mod's machines; for instance, machine frames, motors, batteries and what have you. I did that once I finally got enough materials for the darn thing. Evolved made that far more of a pain then it needed to be since Machine Chassis require freaking Machine Frames. That's not even getting into the fact that the capacitors require Lapis electron tubes.

Do bear in mind this is a fairly new mod (Posted to curse January 8th) and I'm sure it'll have more to come. I'm showing yet another tech based modpack known as Survival Industry. It's completely tech based, with absolutely no magic involved.

But it also has things to make things harder, like several recipe changes (like requiring bedrock to make more OP machines like AE2's inscriber or anything Gendustry related), limited stacks, hunger overhaul+spice of life, zombie awareness, special mobs+specialAI, and harder wildlife. Oh and all the sounds/music/ambiance are all different.

There's also many other things, like you can't just simply get leather, you actually have to tan rawhides you get from cows/pigs to get leather. Speaking of, passive mobs such as pigs/cows/chickens/etc and trees automatically repopulate and will age until they die off. Also they will fight back if you attack them.

And this pack has a "Fatigue" meter, where you have to sleep or you'll suffer, and sleeping is different too. You don't just sleep and it immediately skips to morning, time actually passes by quickly instead, so if you try sleeping in the middle of nowhere on the surface, chances are you'll get jumped on by every mob.

its alright. the Smeltery is nice, it would probably fit in with a dorf-themed world.
tool construction is nice, of course there's a way to minmax everything but that only matters to minmaxers and whiners.

it has a couple addons, but I'd always recommend Steelworks. Adds a copycat of the Smeltery in the High Oven that makes steel. Its simple as fuck to make, and adds nothing to worldgen so its pretty much perfect. also adds the deep tank, which is for storing molten metals and it won't alloy anything together.


There's others like Iguana's Tweaks which pretty much overhauls most of the mechanics and makes it pretty grindy. ExtraTiC just adds overpowered shit, though if you WANT a crossbow that can one-shot everything go for it.

I've got a question that I hope at least some of you will know how to answer.
I used to play minecraft a lot back from beta 1.4, and onto the official release, and I used to mainly play on Faction anarchy/survival servers. Back in the day, they were fucking awesome.
The server I played on 90% of the time had an economy system, without a server shop, so the price of say, a diamond, was completely fluid and based on player economy. Factions cost quite a bit of money to create, and claiming land also cost money, so it was best to have a tight group working together for the good of the faction.
Because of this, there was a very dynamic political environment, with lots of war, treaty, and betrayal between the top few factions. You really got sucked into the server.
Now, the problem, is that I really want to enjoy that kind of experience again, but I'm having a really difficult time finding another such server.
It seems like every server I find with Factions or anarchy in the description has different worlds for minigames, creative, factions, kitPVP, and all of this other stuff. The economy is based on server-run shops, you can vote for the server and get ridiculous perks, you can just type /kit and get armor and shit with absurd enchantments, etc. It just seems really anti-fun and not a challenge to play anymore. I don't even know if people no-life these servers in 12 hours skype calls trying to locate and figure out how to grief another faction's base anymore.
But I have hope that there are servers like this out there, and I'd really like to know where they are, or what to search for if I want this experience.
If an anon started a server like this, how many of you would be interested in playing?

Yeah, playing on 2b2t a little bit and I get what you're saying.
The server type I was used to had a /tpa system, and /sethome, and a main spawn building thing, with a safezone stretching a decent distance from spawn.
It's strange not being able to find another server like this, because it seems like such a simple concept. But yet, nearly every server I see has "OP kitPVP, Prison, OPFactions, minigames, skyblock, kitPVP" and they're just not at all comfortable to play on. And they all seem to be practical carbon-copies of one another.
It honestly really confusing to me why I can't find what I'm looking for.

Normally the crag Biome is my game end goal, when I've got enough research and mod stuff the crag Is the place to build my Final house. I tend to build into the mountain with shit jutting out every so often on account of my inability to design shit well. Can't beat a mountain fortress in terms of minecraft Architecture I feel.

Fair enough I guess, the transfer is always a hassle, but I figure that its a good place to go anyway when you're getting close to things being good and done. I figure I can just build a bunch of Jabba dollys, transfer things over and be good and fine by the mid-tech level of my mods. Tend to use magic stuff over industry, So i'm thinking of turning the biome type to magic forest with witchery when I get there, turn the crag to grass and basically set up my energized node there if I'm patient enough to not build it already. im 32 next month and all my friends are pretty much normies, they have children that introduced their parents to minecraft. So in my community its looked upon as a childs game, which is fair enough, the kids love it, on the xbox, its amazing for them. it was amazing for me in InDev before doors were introduced.. the thing is, none of my friend have a creative mind, none of them are good at drawing, making music or baking cakes, thats the stuff i enjoy and thats the reason i still play minecraft. it feeds my creative side, while i have fuck all to show for it at the end of a 7 hour session on a new map to them or my non existing parent, im happy.

I can respect modded servers, but they're honestly just not really my cup of tea.
I guess I'm just stuck in the past with it.
But I just want nothing more right now than to play on another server like that.
Staying up all night in teamspeak with my faction working on our base and stocking up on armor and ores, finding the coords and working towards a big raid on another faction's base, spending hours working on mob grinders, etc.
I remember when tnt cannons were basically a new concept, and it changed how we thought about raiding and griefing.
We had a map limit, no absurd perks or /kits, you had to work hard to even start a faction, which was essentially impossible to do on your own. We didn't have a shop at /spawn to just buy whatever we needed, pvp wasn't diluted with enchants and potions.
The best part about it was the dynamic between factions. With 5-6 main powerful factions, it was a constant power struggle. There was always griefing and shit-talking around, and everyone just had a good time.
The playerbase wasn't absurdly large, with usually 20-75 people on at a time, with the most powerful players in the teamspeak channels or skype calls working together.
I just miss the good times we had.

plop down a chest, put a crafting table behind it. behind that, place an item transfer node with a world interaction upgrade. make sure the suction end is facing the crafting table. it will now automatically suck things through the crafting table into their crafted form

Theme is stay close to vanilla, and just do stuff I think works together.
I started it back on the minecraft forums when there was an event where lots of texturepack creators joined efforts in all making texture packs with only 5 colors per texture, as a challenge. I'm still sticking with that. Restrictions very much breed creativity.

I've mostly focused on nature and wood stuff, lots of missing textures from the last years' worth of updates.

I would wager a bet that grace period is also why Mojang didn't implement dual wielding in 1.9.

You're better off sword+boarding if you do use M&B.

I never really played minecraft until 2012. I thought it was dumb as shit. While on my second tour, my friend who was in the bunk adjacent to me talked it the fuck up the first time it was mentioned. I had it on my xbox at the time cause my brother urged me to get it to play with him. He told me I just had to get used to it and Id like it. We would have an hour or so before bed after doing mounted patrols 6 days a week. We started on a Sunday (maintenance day) after we did all our assigned shit. We played for the next 8 hours. I was hooked. He knew what he was doing, looking for diamonds and whatnot. I was so engrossed in just maintaining our little cave/home. Farming, killin zombies, making it all look nice. The simplicity of it all was amazing. Never before have I played a video game where I was okay taking my time. No internalized, min/max, meta-gamer self-induced anxiety that I was making the wrong decisions. We couldnt find sheep for the life of us so death would mean a run from spawn to race the item despawn. The careful, methodical, planned excursions were carefully prepared for. The mine and the subsequent cave system we tunneled into soon had multiple checkpoints stocked with food and other supplies. Never have I had so much fucking fun in a 2-man coop setting. Either one or 4+, otherwise it still felt lonely (I was still dealing with my wife who left me for my best friend before my first tour, nasty business.) Aside from all the drugs I was doing stateside and the simplicity of living in a warzone, I managed to feel that "safe" simplicity that you dont feel with rockets, gunfire, and bombs going off around you. It was so comforting.
I had my laptop as well. I had FNV and Skyrim for those times that I was alone or couldnt sleep and I was trying my hand at modding the game. Well eventually I was on /v/ and there was a minecraft thread. They talked about mods and posted pictures of beautiful/crazy stuff. I was hooked.

During our team meetings I never really had much to say, I was a relatively new buck sergeant, the lowest ranking person on the team (my friend, his squad, and the other security teams were from another unit), and the medic. I had a lot of autonomy so I sorta just did my own thing. Well, feeling left out, I made my Powerpoint slide for the meetings and added pictures of my compound and highlighted and discussed what was accomplished in a very serious/military tone to the group. The team got a kick out of it all and my CO asked if that’s really what I did and that theres a game where you can do all of that. I told him yes and my SFC interjected to confirm and tell everyone about our little server thing going on. He said to come to his room and set it up on his computer because he wanted to play.

We had gotten some CAT5 (Ethernet) cable from the commo guys, drilled a few holes in some walls, dug some ditches and we had a dedicated LAN server for our little American compound. We had 15 of us. There were the griefers, the simple, the elaborate, etc. A little bit of everything. Alliances and betrayal happened everyday. We even managed to settle our bickering long enough to do a 10 man expedition into the nether to locate the fortress, farm, and resource gather. Houses needed to be hid, traps were all over the place, and decoys littered known travel routes. It was amazing. I had never played a game like this.
Towards the end of the tour, my friend and I toyed with the idea of doing more with the server. Final operations, preparing to leave, and other stuff kept a lot of us busy. There wasn’t much time for everyone to play so we toyed with forge, Noppes NPC’s, and world painter. We planned to make an actual server when we got home. We managed to build 5 cities, make several factions, quests, some dungeons, etc. Had a pretty good story going too. Drawing on my AP English from high school I made an outline with the lore and had all that “but what is author actually saying?” crap. I wanted people to think about stuff. We were so determined to do it. Well on the way home, my computer crashed and my 3TB that I had my backup and everything else on it was got accidentally smashed. Lost not just our little server world but our first server. I didn’t just lose my time, I lost those memories. I would stab a hobo to walk that map just one last time.

I put up a white board and cork board to brainstorm and hang up flow charts. Once again life fucking happened. I ended up moving on a short notice and a little later got put in a psych ward for reasons. In the blink of an eye I lost all my stuff again. Kept all my programs/test server but since my retarded ass kept all my how-to’s on tiny little sticky notes, I forgot how to set it all up and didn’t feel like having to relearn everything a second time. I lost all that just a little over a year ago.

I go with longsword for bonus mobility, the longjump ability is pretty great, and it gives bonus damage when running, so it can be pretty strong. One thing I find odd about tcon complaints for weapons is that the game's combat was never particularly demanding, complex, or even rewarding. Even with vanilla, chug a strength potion with a sharp 5 diamond sword and anything goes down in 1 or two hits, and it's not really hard to get that. probably harder than the amount of quarts needed for a fuck-you sword.

Ranged might be a different case, but in most instances, what does it matter if something takes 20 or 80 damage if either is going to kill it anyway. just seems stupid more than anything,

TiCon's whole weapon/tool customization deal is awesome, but the numbers need to be toned down, and the traits rebalanced. Even Botania being mostly a patchwork collection of popular features gets away with it because magic mods have some liberty of making up their own concepts - TC's essentia, Botania's mana, Blood Magic's life essence, they all have their own original concepts in its own way.
Meanwhile tech mods are just the same machines over and over again with different textures - electric furnace, pulverizer, sawmill, we've seen everything a million times. Fuck, every mod uses RF these days.

You can blame FTB for that. Because every tech mod used to use their own power system (MJ, RF, EU, FZ Charge) FTB basically declared that everything will be using the RF API or else it won't make it into their pack. Granted, IC2 still uses EU, but it also has the ability to interchange itself between RF and EU through specific cables. And Immersive Engineering can as well.

This makes sense. Magic mods can have their own concepts and not be interchangeable because "Fuck you it's magic" and lore reasons. Tech mods basically all run on power; We don't have four different power outlets in our house, and we have to have certain machines plugged into certain outlets (with the exception of the 12 volt v 220 volt plugs, as they are usually planned for bigger machines). So why should we have four-five different power sources for machines?

Granted, a lot of the machines are stale in what they do comparatively (As you said, Furnace, Pulverizer, etc.) but one of the stark differences is the customizability between most of the tech mods. TE machines can be customized for speed/efficiency, EiO can do multiples at a time, along with other niche things that can be done outside of most other mods (Thermal Expansion has a method for tripling+ ores; Mainly I use it to get shiny ingots rather than hoping it drops on the off chance through a Pulverizer/Sag Mill)

TC is nothing like the mod it used to be. It's just ore processing and OP items, obtained now through the same boring grind that all the other mods force on you. Actually I figured out what it was. It's part of the in-game wiki mod, and for whatever reason it can't be configged to remove that message. Plus it crashed my client when I tried to look something up with it, so into the trash that mod goes.

Golems. There are other mods which add automated assistance but Golems are 'place and order' and no more complicated than that. With something simple, you can create something complex instead of having to learn a fucking archaic scripting language to get a robot to shuffle around and do SOMETHING.

First to add an enchanter and its own enchantments, in-game book of recipes unlocked by research, first to add castable spells--basically, take your pick at anything related to magic mods and Thaumcraft implemented or gave the idea to any magic mod.

It is the oldest and best quality magic mod that exists. So you can fuck right off with your 'TC is just the same abloobloo' bullshit.

Essentialcraft 3 has Wind Relations. Mostly benign, but sometimes the wind will either give you an insane boost of speed or insane jump-height, not in and of itself dangerous, but can be by virtue of making you run into some shit or fall damage

I doubt either of these have been done before TC's warp though, but these mods do have the mechanic.

Eh, I am personally not too into it. EC3's effects are alright because it can easily be turned to your advantage. It's fun to read "the wind pushes you up" and jump up onto a mountain in the 2 seconds it lasts.

Help fix my mob grinder please, /mcg/

The torchers are removed when I want the grinder to spawn mobs, but for some reason the mobs spawn at a ridiculously slow rate. Videos on youtube show grinders with similar setups spawning two or three times as fast as mine.

But I said Warp effects. Not negative modifiers for <scenario>, such as handling hazardous materials. You don't go insane over time and hallucinate when making a reactor, you die without a hazmat suit.

Actually, I went back to the shore, and I was even mistaken about the depth. It's more than a couple blocks deep. In everything but name, this is an ocean - but it's not an ocean BIOME; the entire thing is still Mega Taiga no matter how far out I swim. So nothing ocean-related spawns in there. Also, I didn't disable oceans outright, just turned their biome weight down. What it's done, more or less, is generate oceans as normal and just label them wrong.

And then figure out how to get them to work together. Then add on to that. Modules creating a bigger somewhat-cohesive whole.

Alternatively, seriously consider how to go about making a final build. Like, multiple view screenshots, take it into paint.net and just drawing lines and ideas and shit all over it.
if there's some kind of machine you've always wanted to build, figure out how you want to do that, what kind of machines/automation/other bullshit you want to do and sketch it out rough.
Then start putting it together, tweak your sketches, make more, and think.

being creative does rely on moments of spontaneous inspiration but to DO it you have to write it all down.

Went digging on curseforge. You could consider Aura Cascade, but that mod is so ass it's not even funny.

Though I did stumble upon Totemic, a mod focused on built Totems, playing music and dancing around them. It's different enough from the usual trife of "Research toy, learn spell, throw items and watch a ritual occur" yet still be considered 'magic'. I have no fucking clue what to do with it, never tried it, but it might work as a shoe-in for something different.

I asked WolframAlpha about it and it gave a slightly different answer because it measures the diameter from opposite vertices, rather than the midpoints of opposite edges. However, it does give the desired answer when I ask it for the diagonals of the regular hexadecagon, albeit as part of a list of the distances between each pair of vertices.
