Last year, I found a faulty DW Advance cart. I played a little of it today for the first time, and it wasn't bad. It froze up after my first fight, but I like it. Musou translated into 2D fairly well, which asks the question: Why not go that route for handheld Musous? You eliminate any hardware flaws for an overhead view and less enemies on-screen. It worked well enough in my book.

Lianshi's moveset is definitely better than the crossbow but I can't help but think about what's going to happen to that moveset (as well as Deng Ai's, Guan Suo's, Liu Chan's, and whoever else got their moves changed in 8E).

Also, I kind of liked the crossbow. You just need to stick Velocity on it and you're good to go. The musou attacks definitely sucked though.
The crossbow was a good weapon choice for her because realistically speaking that chest of hers would make it difficult to swing a weapon around.

After beating the first two scenarios (first oneas Oda, second one as Dosan Saito) I decided to challenge myself in the "Struggle for Power" scenario.

I took Suzuki clan (Saika dudes).

And holy shit is this game intense when you are not allowed to snowball while your foes build forces.
The amount of crazy politics and daredevil shit I had to pull to carve myself a kingdom at every knock and cranny not being curbstomped by the Miyoshi or Mori was one ofthe hardest things I've ever played in a video game.

Yep. Some rare times the Sanada 10 appear as generics alongside Kunoichi in spite of that, but even then it's just as named units without any kind of unique dialogue or story role.

I think the biggest role one of them have gotten in a game with Kunoichi is Sarutobi Sasuke being the generic replacement character for Ryu Hayabusa in Warriors Orochi 3, which means that if you play with Ryu in a stage with an npc Ryu, Sasuke generally pops up taking npc Ryu's story role.

Yeah, picking different minor clans on maximum difficulty on different scenarios can make the game interesting and change the dynamics a lot (although the best strategy with really shitty clans is always starting diplomacy as soon as you can with everyone around you except the moron you want to conquer).
Too bad it's kinda the same for everyone once you've got really big (the only thing changing is how big your enemy also are, which may lead to endless streams of troops going on for years between two major factions).

SW4-II handling of the story is just retarded (along with SW1-3), don't even bother.
SW4 is a bit better, but not by much, unlike DW it changes the roles and events of many characters to tell the story.
Sengoku Jidai has hundreds of clans and thousands of characters and events you need to know to fully understand it and it's just impossible with a musou.
SoI stories on the other hand are really good, but you either play following a guide to get them or have fun with game.

When DW8 and XL came out there were a lot of post about how broken he was.
I honestly think he's overrated.
Sure, you can build up gauges like nothing, but the damage of his weapon is far from great on nightmare, there are way better characters that can kill the enemies a lot faster by making use of attributes damage.

DW8E really sucks.
Role playing is impossible since nothing has any depth or even try to make any sense.
The strategy part is completely irrelevant.
Quests suck (yeah, stealth in a musou game, what could go wrong?) and are the very definition of repetitive.
Battles are, again, repetitive and completely uninteresting like no other musou (which really means something).
Grinding titles sucks, they make you act like a retard wasting hours on making the most pointless actions over and over again when you could conquer China in half an hour by either aiming at the enemies capital or pressing the intimidate button until everyone surrenders without a fight.

AI is a little more reactive than usual, but the characters' skills you can use are broken, the game isn't much of challenge even on maximum difficulty with a medium level character and weapon.
Fuck grinding for tomes though, after spending something half a million of them to max ten characters I started cheating.

DW8E's later patch added some cut dialogue from DW7E, like spouse/sworn brother battle dialogue. I think the only thing it's missing in the end are the different levels of revenge dialogue from DW7E, where you could get any of the character screaming for your blood upon seeing your character at the highest level.

Although those are still generic, rather than special events or something.

They can just never feature them together in the story mode. Liu Shan doesn't even appear alongside Liu Bei outside of What Ifs, so it wouldn't be that odd.

Make Lu Kang appear in the later years and then maybe reference his off screen father a couple of times before he dies, also off screen. Or just avoid all that and make him only pop up after Lu Xun's death.

SoI offer a lot of clans all over Japan to play, but only the major clans (Oda, Takeda, Uesugi, etc) offer quests for you to do to follow a storyline. You can either turn the quest off/ignore them during the playthrough and go full sandbox.

Personally, I think the story the game offers is really good, especially the Oda and Toyotomi's, though there are still some meh ones obviously (I'm looking at you, Chosokabe). Some characters also have rather interesting characterization to them, like how the game portray Hideyoshi as slowly going insane in his later events.

In other news, playing Alliance vs the Big Dong scenario. Though the alliance never materialized, managed to inflict several defeats on the Dong with CaoCao/ChenGong and Xiahous/LiDian/Cao Ren broteams, Took Luoyang too.

Problem is that Zhang Liao defends Tong Gate on the road to Chang'An and Yuan Shu is attacking me. I could possibly take over Yuan Shu and recruit his officers but that would open a second front against Dong Zhuo (who has more officers than I do) and give me a border with Liu Biao.
