Anybody know any good futury-looking skyscrapers/buildings? Trying to build a cool downtown
Hi /cbg/, here's my latest throwaway city.
It's the latest and greatest for sure.
Empire County, it's pretty nice.
Closer in on the CBD.
where should I squirt some oil so I can build a nice industry on it?
I'll post the regular map after
Not everything. That's the skylines folder.
Seems like a solid start. We should get some /cbg/ multiplayer OTTD going at some point.
hey poop dam city
save this one then
> small park by the hills, really liked the yellow light effect of a fire on the cabins
that was cool
probably just bad entrance placement on asset though...
>a solid start
nigga this shit took weeks
pic related is the start
but I agree, we should get an online game going, but I fear OpenTTD might be too slow, even for cbg standards
Forgot to add this shot of a game I played with /v/ and /vr/ a few years back. We had a few good games, but it sort of just fizzled out after all.
Yeah, it's holding back the brown tide.
How do you have so much dirty industry?
Some more progress.
I've been streaming this city being made, twitchtv/oldshoesbro if you'd like to come watch.
looks pretty good for a central park
>How do you have so much dirty industry?
Not sure. There was demand for industry so I zoned accordingly. Goods production is exceeding demand now so a lot of factories are being abandoned. RIP blue collar workers.
no idea, never played simutrans.
OpenTTD is comfy, autistic and bugless enough to keep me interested in it anyway
the signals were pretty good in simutrans
enough to keep me hours figuring out rail designs...
I never got through a long game due to my autism wanting to make custom maps and build the cities myself
It's an open source clone of Transport Tycoon, just as OpenTTD is. There were a lot of projects like them in the past, but they've become the two main ones. TTDPatch is also sort of still around, though that's not a clone.
420 TREE LIFE MY DUDE
I just had to get rid of a lot of the original dirty industry as well.
>tfw your city looks nice but traffic is fucked
How do I make a downtown that isn't gridlocked?
post your traffic map
the trick to downtown areas is that you don't want people to drive there.
They should be using mass transit either subways and buses or walking
if you have trains they can be piped in from regional cities and then take buses the rest of the way
first city here, pls no bully
You gotta funnel your car traffic better. Think of it like a tree! Big trunk highway, a few large supporting 6 lane branches, some 4 lane branches and a whole fuckload of twig streets. Only have each part connect to one another (twig street shouldn't connect to main 6 lane branches generally).
Good! Oil was a tree once I can't hate.
This is a better picture to illustrate my point I suppose. I don't have any six lanes yet because I don't have the volume but you get the idea.
Seperate projects. TTDPatch is an attempt to add new features to TTD. OpenTTD is an open source clone. That said, the early days of OpenTTD were largely spent trying to catch up to TTDPatch in terms of features. These days OpenTTD is miles ahead because it's not held back by the old engine.
other advices are, but anon, every city center is congested (if it is indeed a city center)
but to complement on answers, don't funnel traffic, always build alternatives, thats why centers are usually grid, always allowing several ways into somewhere when the main way is locked...
not actual anon, but I would to see them fix current asset mess,
> building is only allowed for 1 lvl
> base game buildings are bland
> euro theme, but only for 'high' density
> if you enable base+euro buildings memory ramps up to 6+GB
> few assets for 'tourists' and 'leisure' commerce
> they can't be put together and and have no high or low density difference...
and another point would the very needed
> better public transport management
> hell on hails with trains spawning everywhere nearly empty
The more I play CSL the more I appreciate SC4
SC4 feels like a real city, you have to start with the dirty and cheap power and industry then slowly increase land value and education to move away from dirty industry. In CSL you can just start with clean energy and put your industry right out of the way.
The zones actually felt like they were based on income in SC4, low income houses were small and run down, high income houses were neat and luxurious same with industry and commerce. All the houses in CSL feel exactly the same, bland.
I'm just saying I'm dissatisfied with how they handle zoning and the general configuration for assets...
First there isn't no mid density, so no average 4~8 floors buildings we loved so much on other games.
Even the Euro theme that actually looks pretty good, is only for high density, the result is that you low density neighborhoods looks just as bland as normal, and you can't have sky scrapers while playing on a euro "biome".
Each building asset can only be on a specific level for certain zone, so to have variation they had a lot of bland models, that in the end didn't achieve variation and still took up lot of memory space...( you could for example have a same model that fits more spaces and more levels).
And finally the bad decisions to have 'leisure' and 'tourism' as separate zones, as far as we know commerce is all the same, commerce for leisure, shops, restaurants, hotels, and what have you...
pretty much what this guy also said,
In SC4 you had a hard time getting land value up to get those nice buildings and industry...
In CSL you don't have a separation of wealth, things just level up and get more capacity...
damn anon, now you got me wanting to get SC4 again...
To tell you the truth even Simcity 2013 had better economy than CSL
you need offices for the industry, that needs to produce goods to be sold on commerces... all the while going parallel with resource industry.
Simcity had a good design, but was shat all over due to EA management...
How do I make gud modular airports? Pic related is my first attempt, and I'm not happy.
First off, is there any way to make objects snap into the asset's airport roads?
Remind me: Does Heavy Traffic ban affect only non-essential trucks? Delivery trucks are still permitted to enter the zone? I think I may be missing a trick with my congested downtown areas...
>Think of it like a tree!
I like to think of it as a nervous system. Great fat bundles of nerves running down the backbones of the the map with strands and fibers splitting and spreading thinner and thinner towards the extremities.
>tfw someone saves your webm
>tfw the framerate blows because LOD toggler was On
>seeing my pictures in there
already 50 subs, please help out fellow anon and leave a good review if you like
that nostalgia moment....
it seems to have worked wel
have any of you guys already done this?
I really like this one as well
that should be fine,
I need to edit this : http://steamcommunity.com/workshop/filedetails/?id=425072179
The original owner had to use the wall as prop (which has no lod), he asked me to see if I could make the asset from the model.
However the model is kind offset from the origin point, which makes it working in the editor difficult... all it needs to be done is adjust the origin/offset
Anyone else have problems with Traffic President + Sharp Angles? Cars seem to ignore certain junctions and instead cross the city using back streets and side roads rather than my beautiful highways.
Back to Traffic++ for now
Is this really Anno?
How can this be?
Have you ever saved the game, got ready to do something else, then got distracted and started doing another thing?
yeah, just fyi, this is a npc town, you can't build like that
re worked the river park
>Have you ever saved the game, got ready to do something else, then got distracted and started doing another thing?
Yes, I meant to expand my downtown highway network and ended up taking videos and screenshots for /cbg/
can you tell the difference?
those are all the same street, but left I use the road skin mod to use park lamps as lights..
Looks pretty good really,
just noticed but it seems from the distance the street isn't being illuminated
