So I just started this game about a 4 days ago and I just learned about the term soft ban and how FROM throws it to players casually...How do I know if I'm softbanned? I have about 14hours into the game and have been only invaded once. I do get decent amounts of co op gameplay like summoning and being summoned. Is there a way to test if my account is fucked or nah?
If you're getting good amounts of co-op then there's no way you're softbanned. A sure-fire way of finding out is to go warp to an area with an orange border and try to invade, if you can't in 3 of those areas you're soft banned and need to use the bone of order

The wharf was pretty cool with regards to the fire and the oil. The monsters were afraid of fire, the vikings would douse you in oil, and if you tried to light your torch when you were covered in oil you would burn to death.
Forest of fallen giants where the hollow soldiers attack the corpses of giants that have been turned into trees was really cool. Seeing a soldier barreling towards me and then going past so he could go smack a tree was pretty cool.
How is a backup even a cheat? Restoring a backup just reverts the game to a previous state.
It affects neither you, nor anyone else, either positively or negatively. It merely reverts time so to speak.
How and why does it trigger their supposed cheat detection?
And how can it (if it even can) tell the difference between a game having ended abruptly and a backup being restored?
The very beginning of the game was promising. All those dog like things running around, the side path with the big footsteps that led to the ogre. Also, looking out at Majula for the first time was breath taking.

The Undead Crypt was really awesome. The wall that turned out to be giants holding shields, the sorcerers being tied to their grave stones, the arms that would slash you from out of the walls. It all seemed really creative all of a sudden. Plus, it looked incredibly cool to light up the crypt with a torch.
I've got 42 poise and get stunlocked in 1-hit by anything when blocking. I freeze up in the idle animation for a couple frames after blocking for no reason regardless of stamina and poise.

As someone who just beat Dark Souls I and bought II on PS4, why do the controls feel so floaty all of a sudden? I played I on PC with my PS4 controller, and it controlled fine. In II, I feel like I'm on ice.
Perhaps because of this? Your character also carries some momentum so you can't make sharp turns as easily.

That's fucking weird. I have a lot of knowledge of the game but I've never seen anything like this. Some things I can think of: if you used Cheat Engine it might have fucked your save data. Maybe it's your controller? I've turned the controller rumble off myself, but perhaps the rumble you get from an enemy hitting your shield somehow makes the controller think you release the block? Try playing with keyboard controls to see if your controller is the fault.

Black Knight Greataxe is probably the worst PvP weapon you can still call a weapon.
It's monstrously slow, slower than any other ultra weapon.
Unlike other ultras, its 2h moveset can be parried. Reaction parried, at that. It has a reaper-tier sweet spot.
It has high damage, sure, but you suffer for it. Using it is like using the dragon tooth in DaS1. Without 2hWR or backstabbing.

Well sheeeit, tried it out for a bit in PVE, the damage IS great, but holy fuck the speed and stamina cost really fucks you up at times, and the speed spot shit is really annoying since most mobs try their hardest to hug you as close as possible.
Any other recommendations? I'm just going through the DLC areas atm. How were the fume and ivory king ultra greatswords?

Don't expect too much from fume's pve damage unless you gimp your rings and survivability. It takes a lot of stamina per swing so you're better off with other weapons. Of course, the speed and range is ridiculous for pvp and that's why people value it so highly. Not BSS tier sadly, that weapon was in a class of its own
If you're doing pve stick with the estoc, some club or some big-hitting one shotter like the mastodon/big candy cone. Strike damage/ lightning etc. rambleramble
Ivory King ultra greatsword is the strongest ultra greatsword. It was when it was released, and then it got buffed even more.
It requires bracing knuckle and some hefty requirements, but it's worth it.
The laser adds a huge amount of range, though the laser itself does small damage.
This thing can't combo 2h attacks, but it does huge enough damage that it doesn't matter.
Beast of a weapon. What ultra weapons should be.
Fume ultra greatsword requires dedication to fully learn. It deflects attacks when blocking with two hands.
You can combine that with block stun cancels to wham people during their stagger for most of their health, and also if you time it right, can have small amounts of block frames during rolls or 2hr2s.
This is pretty strong, obviously. If you learn it, it is immensely satisfying, and can neuter small weapons.
If you play without exploiting those, it's an okay weapon.
The 2hL2 is pretty good for smashing people that roll behind you. Rolling behind someone, as if to backstab, and 2hr2ing will usually catch their roll. Very good.
Like the Ivory King, its range is huge.
What's EZ mode for Dark Souls 2 (regular, not SotFS)? Magic/hexes seem a bit... underpowered till at least midgame.

Steel protection ring. Murder Saulden for it. In PvE, it reduces about as much damage as full fucking havels+5.

Shrine of Amana was super nice to look at and I love the atmosphere. Fuck actually fighting there, but the design of the area itself was 10/10 for me. Dat longing singing, dat light through the roots, dem glowing plants, all of it just blended together and will always be maximum comfy for me.
Approaching Drangleic Castle for the first time gave me chills and reminded me of Twilight Princess when you finally shatter the barrier and can get to Hyrule Castle proper. The actual area in the castle wasn't that great, but the approach. God damn that first approach made the entire game worth it to me.

I'm kinda similar. I'm at 862k SM with 3/4 primal bonfires lit and nowhere near my build being finished. I'm spending way too much time worrying about not seeing people soon, more than I did before taking a long break from DaS2

Since you are using an UGS, I would look into getting your poise to at least hit hyper armor values of 163. Shoot for at least 82 poise, or even better, 102 for 25 poise weapons.
For spells, try shit. Use vessels to test spells, then spice them down. I would look into spicing down non-buff and not affinity since they don't suffer when spiced. If you don't like hexes, go with sacred oath and heals since you have the faith.
Rings- probably Royal Soldier, Third Dragon for the armor for the poise, Probably giants ring, and either chloranthy for stam regen or clear bluestone for the spells if you want to cast offensively.

Uh, I play the game without dealing with bullshit like RNG-based farming or a lack of in-game stat-modifying options?
I just spend my average relaxed run through a game fighting through enemies, experimenting with different tactics and builds, enjoy the feeling of dodging and dancing around PvE challenges. Sometimes I also do challenge runs, like no-damage-to-myself against bosses.
One thing I like to do, for example, is just go through the second-half of Anor Londo and parry and riposte all the Silver Knights to death. I'd do that, go back to the bonfire where Solaire is and repeat the process. I could spend hours just doing that. It's fun.
Then when I get bored, I try out the exact same thing but with a different weapon, armor and stat combination. And when I get bored of melee, I run through the Silver Knights using other things, like maybe pure Pyromancy or Magic.
I somehow misjudged the length of the sword and got pierced, cursed and died to the swarm of skulls.
But that's a first. Never actually thought I'd fail like that. Damn I suck.
So much for my SotFS playthrough going better than my vanilla playthrough.
Softbans seem to be mostly caused by changing your Soul Memory, and having impossible stats (like 1500/1000 HP for example).
Some people have reported softbans for editing items to have incorrect values, especially since it was a common problem to accidentally make weapons that count as consumables.
I've edited my soul memory for multiple characters but never had any impossible stats or soul level/soul memory combinations.
Do they pick up on this shit fairly quickly? just wondering if I'll get softbanned in the future or not
It's real satisfying. It helps that the game has very satisfying parries and ripostes to pull off.
It's almost as satisfying as parrying and zandatsu'ing multiple enemies at once in Metal Gear Rising.
There hasn't been a consistent method to their detection system. It might be monitored in waves, or instantly detected but only "some" people get banned. Some times you get away with doing things you shouldn't, sometimes you get immediately caught.
It's in your best interests to do all your editing offline, as long as everything makes sense once you go back online.

However, i realized people could negate my damage completely with great magic barrier, so i'm unsure if going 40 faith is a good idea. I'm wondering if it's a better idea to go maybe 30-35 faith and put some points into either strength or skill and use Sunlight buff when i have the opportunity. High (40-50) faith will make your miracles very strong, divine weapons are always quite bad in PvP. If someone puts on a GMB just change your weapon to a lightning damage weapon. Also, if you really want to use a faith based projectice spell, use Emit Force, Lightning Spears just don't work unless you're ganking or something.

Black Gulch because it has this atmosphere of being a small but unbelievably dangerous location that's so far underground, nobody will ever be able to help you. Catacombs/Tomb of the Giants kind of did that better, but I played DaS2 first so it struck me as a bit more memorable, plus the visuals in Black Gulch are just great with the greens on black.
Yeah, I successfully taught a person who was hosting me to burn the windmill. I noticed there was poison in front of the two Grave Wardens just outside the boss arena, so I started doubling back and using whatever means of communication I had available to point him towards the windmill. Thankfully he somehow made the leap in logic to burn it after seeing he couldn't normally interact with it; the only hint I was able to give about that was pulling out my Pyromancy Flame.
i sure do love bosses that have really long range and fast recovery and on top of that a jump away move they do right after a fast swipe or long range stab

Most of it is uncofirmed but if you CE items before you could possibly have them, like ring of the living before opening the shrine of winter etc you might get banned
There shouldn't really be an issue with CEing in items that you can farm from enemies that you have already killed

That's what summonings there for. As much as people spout "LEL GIT GUD" some people just flat out won't be as good at video games with things like good reaction time, summoning is effectively lowering the difficulty so they can still have an enjoyable experience.

Eh, Fume Knight ain't so bad when you have human summons to gank him. The only boss I'd say is worse with summons (at least that I can think of off the top of my head) is Ancient Dragon.
the issue is the fact that people who want to make sorcerers in OG Dark Souls are forced to go the same old stale 40 INT + 40 DEX build in order to be viable because of how Dex scales with casting speed.
basically, sorcerors are commonly frowned upon because they're usually the same stupid build that uses crystal magic weapon + dex weapon of choice, crystal soul spear, and homing crystal soulmass.
Dark Souls II handled Sorcerer builds a lot better. Extra casting speed, casts, and agility for raising attunement, which made circumvented the need for raising dexterity so high and allowing sorcerer builds to get the bare minimum str/dex for the weapon they wanted to use.
however, that being said, I would never play Dark Souls II PvP without some sort of Magics/Miracles/Pyromancies because it's literally "who has the longer weapon range to get their two hits in first".

There is a valid reason as to why he has the highest win ratio among DaS2 bosses.
I guess co-op would be hard if you never realize that he aggros to random targets no matter what, but the challenge with him is mostly in learning how to read his attacks. He's hardly the first boss you would have encountered up to that point that is capable of killing you in two hits.

I'm surprised the success rate is so high. I always go in with summons (because why the fuck wouldn't you summon for a multi-enemy boss fight) but I would think they destroy people who try to solo them.
It's mostly just a 1v2 when you solo them, since you 1v1 the first one as soon as you enter, unless you drop off the platform which will aggro the others. Soloing them is pretty easy as a result
Keep trying. Remember that blue orbs work worldwide in a wave-like manner, first the system searches for people to invade in your current location, but it's also possible to invade people anywhere you've been so far.

Demon's Souls is really good IMO. like better than Dark Souls in my book good (no way to play it on PC though, it and Wipeout HD are the only reason I still use my PS3).
What's a good time to start the DS2 DLCs? I just found the heavy iron key which I assume is for the crown of the iron king DLC, and I've beaten the demon of song.
Do them after you finish the Dragon Aerie and get the Ashen Mist Heart, because the DLCs are all balanced for the endgame and there's a boss you need the Heart to access anyway.

Forest Hunters are jokes and Bell Keepers will provide free Titanite while never getting closed off because the host killed a boss. All these slabs are a bit ridiculous, though. I mean they were a bit ridiculous long ago when I got the slabs needed to +10 my rapiers and the extra two I'd need to +10 my later weapons when I get them

Free Titanite for every dead host is pretty good, because forest is JUST souls and only from people who haven't killed Sif and have to be human. At the very least, to hit rank 3 it'd be 100 free Titanite Chunks, except it's more like 80 Titanite Chunks, 10 slabs and some random Twinkling here and there. I'm not even staying in this covenant for much longer
Bellfry invasions are more likely to be you vs the host and the respective Bellfry's NPC summon. That image has been outdated ever since Scholar decided both Sol and Luna needed NPCs to annoy the invaders

The entire DLC is really damn good and tightly designed, I'd highly recommend it.
Besides there's actually 3 more boss battles other than Artorias and they're all pretty good.
Why the fuck are Fire Salamanders so ridiculously hard? Fucking christ their tracking is ridiculous, it's like they're spinning on wheels. Not to mention their aggro range for them shooting fireballs is pretty ridiculous.
I don't know how the hell I would've killed any of them if I didn't have a bow, and even then their range to shoot fireballs was actually farther than my bow range at some points.

And you can also use the character for LGK invasions for Abyss invasions as well, since you can only unlock the covenant upon arriving to drangleic castle and the SM ranges are pretty much the same.

thanks anon, I'll try that, I was going to have LGK be a STR FTH build and the abyss be pure dark caster INT FTH so I might still use two separate characters, but good to know.
If you want to be a real dickass mirror squire, reserve one of the attunement slots for Warmth, since it works on LGK as well.

However to get the sunlight spear miracles from the Warrior of Sunlight covenant you need a minimum of 25 faith to join, but you can lower it by 5 for each boss you help kill when you're summoned as a phantom.
Either level up in the chaos covenant by giving the fair lady 30 humanity and opening the shortcut, or if you have the poison mist pyromancy you can go up to the shorcut wall and breath the poison through the wall. You'll know when you kill the sunlight maggot since it drops 100 souls and the others only drop like 30

that sounds like a blast, I've always wanted to make a character specially for that but I took a long break from das2 so never got around to it, I hope I can make all these characters before das3, probably going to take 100hrs just to get them all set up
but actually it's because few people actually kill npcs more than once for quick armor sets or after they do it on accident and learn not to, DaS2 is easier with the poison auras but still not very common
Because connectivity is a bitch and players aren't playing properly. Most people try to duel when invaded rather than engage in a pitched battle for survival, meaning by the time the cop could connect, the fight is already over.
Invaders also tend to make sure that they can't be invaded in their own worlds.

I suffer from the same kind of problem. Been saving up for Bloodborne Station and Bloodborne itself, but damn, now when it's less than 3 months till DaS3 release I really don't think it's worth it, maybe another time.
