I hate James and always will. Every scene with him in it is awful, more or less. I can't fathom how bad he is; every re-watch only solidifies it further for me. Leland's death made me cry though, I've never seen filmmaking quite like it. It's truly something else. Lynch has such a unique style, it's absolutely incredible especially for the time and given the show's often goofy tone.

Setting: New Orleans, February 2015 (A year and a few months after Arcadia Bay is hit by the tornado) right around the time of Mardi Gras

Main character: A girl that loses her best friend shortly before the game starts. There are little details about her death. the MC is really into music and is going to school for it similar to how Max went to Blackwell for photography..

Soundtrack: Stuff from any genre and any time period

Power: The MC can see and communicate with ghosts. She's always had this ability but never mentioned it to anyone because she didn't want them to think she was crazy. But the ghosts appear if she plays their favorite music (Example, you play something jazz and the ghost that appears will be from the 1920s. Play punk and you get a ghost from the 70s.). Once the ghost is there you can talk to them about their own time, but they also sit around and act as observers that nobody else can see.

Theme: While mourning her friend, the MC plays some of her friend's favorite songs and surprise surprise. Their friend's spirit appears and is amazed she can be seen. She tries talking to her friend, but they can't remember much about their last days alive. As you talk with other people/ ghosts that were in the area you piece together the final days of your friend's life. You can also help other spirits find closure and get to the other side by doing tasks/ quests for them.

Throughout the game you would have little nods to the first season. Maybe you see Max taking a picture of something, or see her and Chloe in the background, and see newspapers about Arcadia Bay. That stuff could be determined based on your S1 save.

It's pretty fucking pathetic that The Walking Dead Season 2 does probably the best job at making choices matter and even then it's only a selection of three endings based on the final choice (five if you count the choices in two of the endings).

While it's a terribly flawed game I honestly think episodic games should take some inspiration from Heavy Rain. At the very least it did have a finale that ended good, bad or somewhere in between depending on your previous actions. Until Dawn also deserves credit for trying a little harder than most. Still both had quite a bit of railroading.

As much as I dislike Heavy Rain's batshit and dishonest story telling, I really love that they actually have completely alternate scenes dependant on your playthrough.
I don't remember the triggers, but shit like Ethan and Jayden in the police station which only happens if he's arrested, Jayden in his hotel room which is only triggered by some seemingly unrelated event, etc. There's a good amount of content that you can't access in a single playthrough, with a lot more effort and story telling value in each compared to the completely pointless Kate hospital scene.

Man, if that game just nixed Ethan's blackouts completely (or brought back that whole aborted plotline so they make sense), got rid of Madison because she's a useless idiot, replaced her with Lauren because she's the bomb, and made Shelby an NPC because that's dishonest as fuck, it'd be a pretty amazing game.
That and nix or make optional a lot of the pointless faffing around that you have to do as each character, like fucking making scrambled eggs.
And made Jason the 3 year old he behaves like.

...Okay, so there are a lot of really big problems. But still.

The game always suggests, there are important key points in the past. If you change them the outcome will be entirely different. William could have died a dozen times but he survived just because you saved him once. In one reality you change one thing and You will be one of the most popular girls in school, part of the Vortex, best friend of Victoria. It is simplifying things but even IRL when people regret something they like to trace it back to a few important event in their life.
Not to mention many famous people became only famous because they were in the right time at the right place. Especially artists. Actors who just accompanied their aspiring friends to an audition. Musicans who published their album at the right time, but similar albums a few years before never got recognized. Even video games are the same. Life is Strange came out in the right time. If it comes out before The Walking Dead S1 it maybe wouldn't have recognized ever.
Since Max is literally a nobody right now without any connections, it would be extremely hard to get in touch with the right crowd.

Or I just like the idea of her throwing away her career without a second guess for Chloe. This is why I was kinda disappointed at the end where you didn't need to sacrifice yourself for her.

A new cast is hardly any more safe from Dontnod fucking them over than the original cast was. As long as they're convinced that Let's Player tears are a sign of good writing, Season 2 has no hope of ending any better.

I'd personally prefer a Shattered Memories style reimagining of the first game that took the story in a different direction and ended on a stronger note. I know it will never happen of course, I just like to imagine.
