That's probably the reason why I can't play through RF. The RPG stuff and characters still seem a tad cliche, which I guess is a consequence of the setting but it felt weird.
Although it had its own problems, Animal Parade had some very nice relationships. It felt not too adult, yet still mature enough, I loved it.

Let's be honest though, romance is just one part of the games. They'd have to spend more time than they are now concentrated on a single game in order to have something close to a good dating sim, unless the farming suffers.

To be fair with FE13 and 14, they have dozens of marriage candidates altogether and there's enough of those that make for interesting characters despite having a 10th of the lines the average marriage candidate in SoS has.

Tons of the game's content boils down to cosmetic decorating which doesn't interest me.
Day-to-day maintenance of animals and crops gets tedious
Felt no desire to make fancy dishes or upgrade crop levels because everyone will respond to them the same as half-star items.

That's not to say it's a bad game for people who want the slow and steady farm life, but anything I wanted I could get pretty damn quickly even playing on the higher difficulty. It didn't help that I couldn't find a high level goal I was really interested in. Once you have your flax dynasty you can buy practically anything. So I just set the goal of acquiring delicious Licorice and called it a day once I was done.

Man it is not easy hit people with snowballs in SoS.

I forgot how fun "Tides of Destiny" is. Put it down for a few months after getting Etrian Odyssey Untold 1 and just started back up today. I like the farming mechanics in it, I know a lot of people don't, but I like taming monsters and then getting back to the barn and seeing what they can grow.
