why did this fail? I meant to get into it but the servers were shitting themselves at f2p launch. now it's too close to blade and soul to give it a go. was it simply mismanagement from carbide, or is the game structurally unsaveable?

Here are a few of many reasons.
-NCSoft supposedly wanted ROI and rushed release, which meant both bugs and odd optimization issues.
-Catering to a hard-core demo that doesn't exist.
-Their first major patch released practically the same day as Warlords of Draenor.
-Server issues at F2P release.
-Content drought currently.

This general is dead. The game isn't. Despite what people who don't play the game say, there are still more people playing on the US PvE server than when I started out on a med pop WoW server at the end of Cata. THAT was dead. You'd be queued for a dungeon so long you'd ding another level, get kicked from the queue and start the futile process all over again. It's also way easier to PUG raids here than it was with Dragon Soul. And that only took ten fucking people.

It'll probably just be more hardcore shit for the ~200 hardcore people still playing, some lame housing crap or a new rune system which is super expensive, takes ages and makes up 3/4 of your stats; or maybe some new world bosses, everyone loves those, right?

Let's just say my Carbine Studios expectations bar is very low, infact it's on the floor.

Top tier contract reward is a random 100 piece of gear. Not to mention crafted stuff. And you can fill in the gaps with cheap lvl 70 gear from the AH.

Yes, you can gear up pretty decently with cash money. Runes are definitley a ton of the DPS gap but they can only be put in top level gear too, which stops non-raiders from using them even with the 100/70s.

Please note that I'm not saying raiders shouldn't have much better gear or even five times the DPS, but it's just that much more apparent when the community is so small in the first place.
