Ýou know, I actually thought of an idea like this recently.
Basically the plot would be something along the lines of Sonic and Co are chilling when a bunch of robots from other continuities start invading the planet through these portal holes things. (Kinda like the Genesis Portals.) Eventually, Sonic and Co go in one of the portals and end up in some high tech facility where they meet this dude who might as well be Zonic. He tells them that someone/something is invading and screwing up not only Sonic's world, but a lot of other worlds as well. So Sonic and co travel through all the different continuities, meet themselves and characters not of their world, and have a bunch of interactions.

I kinda envisioned it to be a blend of 2D platforming/fighting/beat 'em up. There would be a lot of characters to play as, as well as one or two who could provide support, though it would be optional. If I knew how to program and make games, I would consider making it myself.

Me and my friends made some OCs for a table top game. End boss of it all was a normal Egg Pawn, most of the group ended up dead by the end of it. No idea if we overpowered the pawn or if it'd really be like that, but we didn't want our characters near the official characters power levels, we just wanted them to be "normal".

This was a long ass time ago, so memory's fuzzy.

Sum it up best I can remember; small town they all lived in out in the middle of bumfuck nowhere gets fucked hard by Eggman's army. All of our characters just had to run, survive, and avoid badniks while trying to get to territory not under Eggman's control. That one Eggpawn was the only badnik they ever directly confronted.

It was the first and last Sonic themed campaign we did, I think.

I was the only one that had even heard of Sonic before that campaign. So none of them knew the series' reputation at the time. I just let them play the games I had, I think the newest game was Heroes at the time, and got them interested. Also the only Sonic things other than the games I knew about was SatAM, had no idea the other two cartoons or the Archie comics even existed. None of us had internet at the time. So our knowledge was really limited

That was also our 3rd or so, some really early number like that, game so none of us really knew what the hell we were doing.

After that game we just went back to Star Wars themed games.

The entire Saga was nonsense. First he's going crazy with power for almost ten issues, then he's fine and tries to change the past a few times, then his status quo is restored and we're treated to a dumb story about his future-daughter, then he's just chillaxin' when Mammoth Mogul shows up and they both die.

Most of Bollers' run is a series of train-of-thought stories meant to clean up all of Ken's abandoned subplots with self contained stories that aren't that bad lumped in between. I really wish he gave fewer shits, because the entire reason Sonic Adventure through the 140s sucked is because half of every issue was Ken's stagnant soap opera and the other half was usually a bunch of cleanup work. His standalone writing was pretty good, aside from his "Benny Lee" stories, but he always got paired with lazy artists.

Every single Knuckles story by Ken after Knux #21 is pointless, even if you care about the Knuckles Lore. If you only read Sonic #13, Knux's mini and issues 1-21, Sonic #58, Julie's story in GURLS RULE, and then never read another story written by Ken (meaning that you jump immediately to Karl's Return to Angel Island and then once more to the start of Ian's run), the Knuckles story doesn't change at all.

Every character and event is set up (Gala-Na, Lien-Da, Elias) and any confusion later on ("Knuckles lost his powers? He had a fight with Gala-Na?") is easily chalked up to the time skip. The story actually reads far BETTER, as there's FAR less fluff and fewer shitty cliffhangers. That's to say nothing of the main comic, that loses over 50 issues of bullshit in the process.

What I'm getting at is, regardless of our opinions of him, pretending Ken never existed actually improves your reading experience.

One thing that bothers me is that the Brotherhood isn't all that bad if you cut about half of them and rearrange their order. It's actually really easy to repurposed them as backstory that ties into Knuckles' themes of responsibility, history, naivete and mistrust.

Like, hell, let's see if we can outdo Ken on the spot. You start with Edmund, right? Brother of Dimitri, effectively saves his homeland from Enerjak but dies.
Then you get Hawking. He's riding high on the legacy of his father. He's an egotistical, bigoted piece of shit and publicly chastizes, mocks and humiliates his cousin Menniker for Dimitri's legacy. This leads to Menniker creating a sort of cult of protection to vindicate his father and shield citizens from the scourge of spirits and mysticism with the power of technology.
Hawking's selfish bullshit and bigotry leads to the enemies of the Echidnas fucking decimating them. The Legion, hastily taken over by Menniker's son Moritori and turned into a proper Borg-Cult, tries to start a civil war. Hawking seals them in a pocket dimension. The Echidnas loathe Hawking but need his technological knowhow, so he's secluded himself and stews in his bitterness while advancing society. His daughter, Athair's mother, essentially becomes the first Guardian by helping the Echidnas rebuild society. Athair ends up becoming a hermit and leads Echidnas on pilgrimages to settle new land, his son Tobor returns to the Guardian post and is brainwashed by the Legion, leading to him covertly killing his grandmother.

Brainwashed Tobor is a distant father and tries to have his son legionized in secret, Spectre is distant to his son Locke in turn, which leads to Locke mistrusting family and technology, completely abandoning Knuckles in the hopes that being alone would lead to something better than what his heritage has made Locke (a bitter, paranoid recluse).

Oh, and Knuckles' mom is dead, because her just not being around is done.
