Because R needs damage from the rest of his kit to be effective? R doesn't do shit if Zed can't get in his combo on you. It also helps that it's Vel'Koz so the extra damage isn't that much more needed since he can normally 100 to 0 someone at level 6 unless they have a blink or flash. He's currently one of the highest average damage champions in the whole game.

The extra MS also helps a lot with kiting, which is something else he's rather good at.

I aint even saying that Thunderlords is bad, but you people sperg out as if it's an instawin mastery or something and a must.

Yeah, I know. Again, I nefver said stormraider's was a superior choice always or that Thunderlord's is bad, but it's always good to be somewhat flexible.

I find Stormraider's to be good for surviving more easily if it's against someone Vel can struggle as and get dived by. Vel'Koz doesn't have any escape spells, only kiting and Zed needs to apply his combo for his ult to work.

It works for me at least and that's what I mainly care about. Thunderlord's is still a great mastery but I just prefer survivability, especially as Vel'Koz.

Well, the first thing I've noticed as Zed is that everybody panic flash as soon as I ult, meaning I dash with the at the final destination. If a Zed ult you, the best thing is to wait until he appears and then you can flash away, the farther from the R's shadow the better.

If the enemy laner has a stun(TF's gold card or Annie's passive) I wait until they blow them to go all in in an instant, there, free kill.

It goes without saying that roaming is any midlaner task. If the enemy laner is too hard to kill, getting a double kill in botlane is the way to go. I always take long trips and shadow through walls to avoid obvious ward locations.

And of course, when you go all in with Zed the most important thing to do is land your Q and proc the passive. If you manage to avoid both then you can neglect 50% of the damage done. Pressing Zhonya as soon as Zed ult is the ultimate counter. I've seen people wait until the Death Mark explodes and then I just them with an auto attack. Zed dashing = Zhonya without even thinking about it.

That's the basic, but until Diamond, you see people making the most stupid mistake and giving away free kills and making Zed make no effort at all to get them. And of course, natural counters like Lissandra or Kayle works, they are always a pain the ass to play against to.
