Reminder to persevere and git good like this dog. What a good dog.
Daily reminder to slaughter all NPCs so you can learn martial arts from them.
I played Sil as Noldor brawler and was doing great since I found a greatsword at the start of the game
then 200ft deep 3 orcs cornered me against a wall and fucked me
I would be lying if I said I didn't get a little aroused, but fuck this
Guess we have a new game to add to the list of lewd roguelikes.
Here's a protip: whenever you're running away in Sil, try to move in a serpentine and never in a straight line.
It confuses the enemy AI since it tries to predict your escape route based on the direction you're running.
God damn, this is the first time I've found one of the mithril armour artefacts.
This was my old castle reward. I'm guessing I'd want to put this on only before the serpent, if at all, right?
What does /rlg/ think of a roguelike-ish game where instead of controlling a single character to get to the bottom of the dungeon or whatever, you're the dean of a school that trains/teaches people (for a fee) to dungeon dive?
You put them through whatever classes you feel will help them, pay for whatever equipment you think will help them succeed and you send them down to whatever dungeon. If they die obviously you lose all the in-game weeks/months/years you spent training them and all their equipment, along with a hit to your reputation as a school that DOESNT send people down to their death. When you send someone down you play it like a normal roguelike (I'm thinking sil-ish except less lotr), except with whatever equipment you gave the character before sending him.
You would collect whatever shit is in that dungeon (You would have a weight limit/inventory space limit based on your strength/what you have on you) and hopefully bring it back up to display in your collection for fame or sell for money to outfit and train your students. Before sending them down, you could put them through a month of weightlifting to increase how much they can carry or swordsman classes to raise swordsmanship. Along with hiring whatever randomly generated characters to teach, you could also hire any students you decide to graduate to be teachers. All npcs like students and teachers have an invisible talent level for each skill that affects how quickly the skills rise and their max cap.
It's probably still worth wearing right away. +30% spellpower is *very* good. The aggravate, while definitely impactful, is manageable and the spellpow is great. Later if you're lucky Athena will drop her spear or something, for another +30%.
Really nice find! Sure not as good as Gandalf's staff but still fucking powerful as fuck. 30% is BIG
actually according to the code it's even higher item powerlevel than Gandalf's because that 30% is ABSURD. Gandalf's gives force brand but this gives spells-fucking-rape-brand
I'm considering making a roguelike to work on my coding skills, and I recently started nostalgiaing about Valthirian arc which while not a roguelike has inspired me to come up with this
You can pick which students you let in
I hope I didn't get fooled into wielding this permacursed aggravation weapon for giggles.
If you decide you actually hate it you can nuke it with ?Mundanity but I wasn't intending to trick you. Spellpower is huge and hard to get. Look at that mana bolt improvement...and your manastorm is going to be ginormous as well once you get there.
If there isn't a FoTM going on, you can start discussion of most games pretty easily here. People just default to Crawl and more recently PCB when there's nothing else to talk about, since there's always people playing those.
mostly just unlucky. Also you might have herbs of sustenance which are also good food (and other herbs are small food as well in a pinch).
Sil has a lot of good skills but of course the nature of increasing cost within each category the more you have already in that category means you can't get everything you want usually.
Sil 1.3 was released and finally we got around to remembering to put it into the OP.
Speaking of which, >>127954370, mpa-sil-1.3 is also released now, as a branch, courtesy of elliptic: https://github.com/MarvinPA/mpa-sil/tree/sil-1.3.0
>doing great on sil
>go through hallway
>do a 360
>thirty thousand orcs behind
i desperately need to git gud familia
Why are there cat people and shit like worm masses in sil? I'm not up to date on Tolkien lore
Food is kinda scarce yea, but it's never been a problem for me in my runs, and you can just take that will skill that reduces hunger by a huge amount I guess
I logged in to roguenex.us and gave it a whirl
try playing a stealth-and-diving build just so you can get a better sense of how the AI orc patrols behave as they sweep through the level, and then go back to fighty-types armed with that knowledge.
the cats are canon. I'm not sure on the worms though.
I'm pretty new to Sil, but I didn't really think they were that tough. I killed one when I fell down a chasm to 250 ft from 150 or so, before I had picked any skills, as a Edain with a longsword.
r e a d t h e m a n u a l
also armors that penalize your accuracy by more than 1 and also penalize your evasion are rarely worth it except as swaps against archers.
And if you read the manual you'll know why armor is better than evasion vs archers.
I survived! Umuiyan and Smaug down, Scatha still to come. No cool artefacts in the fortress unfortunately.
Worm masses are gone in 1.3, they were a holdover from Angband. Cats are a bit iffy, there's like one or two lines in Lord of the Rings about the cats of Queen Beruthiel, a Black Numenorian. I think there may be more references to them in Unfinished Tales.
if it's final rest maybe throwing at an undead (W, remember vampires aren't undead in Tolkein lore, they're just bat-people)
Sharpness could try digging I'm guessing
Also note that if your perception is low and you're in regular (as opposed to mpa-sil) you may not notice it even though you did the proper thing to id it.
It could be Fury which I think you'd just have to wield-id which is risky
the newest twist in crawl is that like 40% of the crawl players in the thread started playing Angband variants because there's no new mecha race yet or new anything yet
Not sure how long you've been gone or whatever but on the player-side of new twists the mumo challenge was accomplished by two players
How do you get good at roguelikes? When I play a roguelite, I can always do okay. But as soon as I jump into one of these games, I always feel like I'm way out of my league. Even when playing Brogue and DCSS I feel like I'm just constantly fucking struggling and never sure what item is better than another, how scared I should be when facing a certain enemy, etc. I've read the pastas and such too.
But, for example, I'll watch online play for DCSS to try to learn some tricks. And by the first few dungeon levels, they've got weapons with some sort of resist or brand. Me? I'm stuck with a fucking busted ass weapon I started with, whatever armor I spawned with, and get killed.
I need the ultimate retard's first roguelike. Because even Brogue and DCSS which I hear are easy are even kicking my ass hard. And I want to get good. Every time I play and watch them it's so fun and I love them, but then they bend me over and fuck me in the ass like a two bit whore and spit me back out.
Add something fucking wild and/or stupid to a roguelike
Actions are measured in energy units of kilocalories, and the nutrition you gain is, too.
The game measures all your vitamins and minerals, if you don't eat a balanced diet while dungeoning your character progression as you level up suffers slightly.
post screenshots of your character's stats/skills/equipment when you get into a risky spot. This lets you get advice and also forces you to take your hands away from the keyboard and *think* before taking your turn.
You probably also have some tactical habits you should change in terms of exploration patterns, pulling one monster at a time away from a group using a ranged attack, etc. Lots of little things that accumulate to huge change in terms of resources burned etc over the course of a game, stuff that applies across all roguelikes.
You need to pee or shit.
If you're shitting yourself during a fight, you will have to shit on your own armor, and after the fight take it off and clean it all up, which takes several turns and requires water and cleaning items, unless you want to risk an infection.
>autists have actually suggested this for DDA.
What makes the fatties think they can have a balanced diet in a videogame, if they can't even have it in real life?
This has the winners. I think Implojin uploaded all 30 hours of his win somewhere.
oh I forgot to mention Grunt's devices-god Pakellas made it into trunk and that actually *is* new. He's loads of fun and probably too strong so get some games in while it's still OP.
But if they're autists that want to play well, they'll have to look up basic nutrition
It's a genius plan
Nah, they'll just feel a little more uncomfortable with their diets, they won't do shit
You could try starting with One Way Heroics. It's very forgiving.
ToME4 on normal is also pretty easy.
Or you could try playing Elona+, although that game isn't typically played with permadeath. Elona's gameplay is markedly different from what's typical for the genre though, so it isn't the best representative example.
As the other anon mentioned, you could also try playing a strong melee combo in DCSS and posting in the thread for help whenever you get into trouble. Crawl is one of the easier roguelikes once you have a handle on the game's mechanics.
Brogue is probably one that you should save for later. It's a very well polished game with straightforward mechanics, but its food clock is tight and it's not very forgiving of misplays. Great game though, once you've gotten gud.
>Tfw no way to ID this shit
It's not gondolin or wolvesbane in any case. Should I just hang onto it for a while?
Also, do you guys normally descend quickly or do you take your time on each level?
You should just not worry about sucking, for starters
Try DoomRL too, it's the ultimate retard's first roguelike and yet it counts as a real roguelike that people here mostly won't laugh at you for playing
it's probably crap because it's a broken sword base type
I take my time, but the best player descend quickly so they have as much time available for 950' as they want. I just watched one good player make his way down to 950' way way before the mindepth forced him there (he didn't dive but he didn't dawdle either), got some items for a while, and then (again before being forced to) went down and easily killed Morgoth with just a +1 accuracy 2d5 defender longsword. He was a noldor but still.
Is there a roguelike-like game that's kind of like cataclysm (as in sandbox), but high fantasy?
Something like Sil but not dungeon crawling.
I kind of want a sandbox RPG but in the ascii type since it leaves a lot more room for customization and it's more
funfor me that way sorry for request
I'm not good at Sil but my relatively successful stealth Edain runs usually just dive relatively quickly while trying to grab some loot or attempt a couple of stabs for more exp. If I'm doing an elf or dwarf I usually take my time in hopes of a forge, although I'm starting to think relying on a forge is not a good way to build a character.
I'm guessing the gauntlets are either "of the forge" or "of the swordmaster" or whatever they're called. IMO just wear them and hope they're not bad...
And if they are bad, well, test the staff. You want to test staff on a stair (in case it's summoning), ideally while wearing a cursed item (in case it's sanctify i.e. remove curse), near a closed AND an open door (for opening/binding), near a monster, with an in-ided item (if it's identify), and with a chargeable item (in case it's recharging)
Fuck, there were like 5 of them and I wanted to stop them from cornering me. This is the last one I believe but damn. If I roll high it'll die but I don't know if I have faith in it.
Should I chug a pot or just go for the kill?
I only put 1 point into smithing because people say it's been nerfed into oblivion, but iirc I saw a 3-use forge upstairs.
I see, thanks.
Hygiene and cooking minigames. If you neglect your hygiene you get charisma malus, and if you fuck up your grooming you get a malus to self-esteem/confidence. Cooking minigame involves assembling all ingredients and tools and can take place in several stages (example: preparing a cheese sauce that is a component for your baked macaroni). Different from C:DDA cooking in that you don't use a standard recipe, but can combine/prepare any ingredient(s) in anyway. Must be needlessly complex
If you're ruling out dungeon crawling as part of your game you're not really looking for a roguelike anymore. Even the most sandbox roguelikes like Elona+ still feature dungeon crawls as a significant component because, y'know, Rogue.
DF and E+ are probably the two closest to what you're looking for.
>generic: the generity
You could always drop the ascii part and go play any of the TES games.
If you go back far enough they even have procedurally generated dungeons and similar skill systems and outdated enough graphics that they might as well be ascii.
How does dorf fort adventure mode NOT count as what you want?
>INCURSION: OVERWORLD SANDBOX EDITION WILL NEVER EXIST
An ADOM artifact somehow fell into PosChengband.
This is *identified*, by the way. It has no resists or anything. Pretty bad.
Only an average of 24 damage. At this point I'm seeing ego weapons with more than that to-dam as drops in the arena. Although I guess it has synergy with slays from your other equipment.
Too bad I'm a shieldmaster
the damage average is low because you're probably getting very very few blows per round with such a heavy weapon
It would get better as you got super high stats, and also if you were a class that used its weight
That weapon can definitely do pretty high damage in the right character's hands
>go into a basement
>it's full of lava
It's such a well crafted game
>Nearby are a small village, a ruined keep, and an ancient dungeon. In the far distance lie lands full of elves and dragons, monsters and demons.
i could use this shadowofthewyrm's site for an illustration that it's acceptable to use a verb before a noun in english even when it's not a question or "there + to be" construction... mobi dick or the bible are more trusted sources though
>spawn in gunshop for ezgunz
>look through window
>you're already dead
yeah, it's not that bad for a mauler albeit you usually want resists or some other cool stuff on your weapon, but the real big punch is much better (it's an end game quality weapon in adom if you use some feats for the heavy weapons and generally is your first option to scratch steel golems when you find it anyway)
Does having a buttload of bionics in CDDA make NPCs dislike you?
I mean I've got a lot but not one of them says "this will make you ugly as sin" in the description, all of them sound pretty "internal", yet I can't persuade/intimidate npcs worth butt.
Is adventurer class in Tome4 easy mode?
Or is it just "i want to min-max everything" autism mode, without making the game pointless?
Also, if i've unlocked the classes by copy-pasting, will i still get the achievements/the things that unlock them?
So what level do (greater) vaults actually start showing up in PCB?
I've been to floor 67 so far (not counting a dip into lvl75 Mine to read aquirement), and I haven't seen a single one.
Adventurer is the class that gives you every skill tree, right? I haven't played much with it but apparently you can get some pretty OP builds.
adventurer may be broken but iirc the cost of picking the skill trees is pretty high and they should complement each other too so it's not really the easiest option
oozemancer used to be the snore mode when hard was easier with it than normal with other classes, not sure how it's now
>slaughtering way through orc/troll horde
>they just keep coming, trying to flank and circle around constantly
>somehow holding my own, retreating every ten turns to keep from getting trapped
>kill one unique orc, another comes charging up
>reposition self quickly
>"You become entangled in a web."
I can't really get into crafting systems in roguelikes. Have always found them quite bothersome.
Adventurer is and will be the "special" class, basically exist for when you want to do something very retarded, by this virtue is with archmage the easy class to clear high difficulties (just go meteoric shalore unarmed magic spammer).
You do not get the chevoos by copy-pasting/using the addon. You also have to unlock ashes.
please go have an encounter with death, come back here, and tell me fighting him isn't bullshit.
This. Adventurer can become OP, but it takes its damn while to get there.
It isn't weaker than any other class, but it isn't stronger either, unless you get to the late levels/are playing with no level cap (like the infinite dungeon).
Speaking of the infinite dungeon: is it possible to come out of it with a "telport to anglvar" (or whatever that archm, age town is called)? Or are you stuck there forever once you enter it?
I'm talking about the Infinite dungeon acfter the campaign, but i'm intersted to know if this is the case also for archmages created in infinite dungeon mode.
>How do you know there's even permadeath?
it's permadeath like in any roguelike, you may still create a new character but well the old one died, or moved to an unaccessible location, like ascended
>hmm this amulet reform goes pretty well
>we are even adding some new content in 0.18
Once you enter the infinite dungeon (iirc you need an addon to make it actually over level 50, otherwise it's capped I think) you cannot leave. EVER. You simply don't have the talent.
Adventurer is the goto OP class after archmage, grab bloodthirst, shalore, and spellcombat, grab unarmed and earth, you need to gimmick it to level 10~ but then it's livin the life of spamming hits everywhere.
so i am playing an ogre sun paladin on TOME.
i got the ogre racial ability that lets me hold a 2H weapon + shield, suffering a "50% less damage proc on your *offhand* weapon". this would let me unlock and use both 2h weapon skills and shield skills for maximum fiery justice. in theory.
i have the passive ability(Weapon of wrath) that adds fire damage based on % of my hp lost on every attack and i have the passive ability(shield of light) that let me do a free shield attack for 45% shield damage everytime i do a normal attack.
unfortunately pic related happens.
my weapon of wrath was supposed to hit for 158 damage on the main attack and possibly a smaller amount on the free shield attack. instead the log tells me i have only hit for 40 fire damage during the entire turn.
40 = 158 * 0.45 * 0.5 -> it seems like it's coming from my shield.
if i deactivate my shield of light i do around 80 fire damage, meaning my main hand damage is reduced by the ogre passive even though it's supposed to be offhand only.
if i remove my shield i litterally hit for 160 fire damage, almost doubling my damage per turn?
is this supposed to be a bug? is there any way to solve it?
fuck this build.
if i wanted to buy Tome4 on Steam, do i miss out on all the goodies the donators get?
Or do i, by buying both the base game and the DLC, get everything behind the paywall?
Also, why the fuck does the Tome4 pack cost 20 euros but contains only the base game?
yes, they were "kind of boring" when you had fought them a billion times already.
so since the guys who have played this game for 10 years find them "kind of boring", lets just remove them so nobody ever gets to experience it.
good game design™
For christ's sake, the memes were real: they DO KEEP REMOVING instead of adding.
I see, thank you. I've read about some donator coins or shit like that. If in future i wanted to donate to increase my vault's space (i higly doubt i will, but i'd like to know anyway) can i do that and get the increased space? I guess it's possible if a Steam link to the tome4 account is possible, but better safe than sorry.
Finally, what does the 20 euros pack have in addition to the base game + dlc? It says it contains only the base game, but maybe i'm retarded and haven't noticed anything else.
No clue, but it must be something really fucking good if a god went through all the trouble of sealing the essence of the most powerful of the Horsemen of the Apocalipse in a mortal shell years ago, just for a chance at obtaining it
Is it normal for runes to just be chilling out in the open like this?
I thought I could one shot him since he was asleep. I get so lazy with mage characters and want to tab everything in the early game until I get the "fun" spells.
Im still surprised it one shot me.
Also I know the ring has -rf
Kill priests, paladins or cast death/necromancy spells and you'll get that message. If you kill a lot of those guys then sooner or later you'll notice some undead enemies will be friendly to you. Imagine hiding in a thicket of friendly undead masses...
Try a minotaur, draconian or demonspawn. They're pretty diesel but have worse defenses/apts to help you adjust. If it was a situation you would have berserked or regenned in, consider why and if you should just not fight them until they wander into smaller groups or an easier positioning
They are Essentially caster endgame is spam devices or sp replenish pots. I nthe case of a couple classes, you use eat magic on leftover mid-grade devices to restore sp and repeat
It's a bit shameful he would be talking shit about the challenge after not following version restrictions and being all buddy buddy with dck and blls on streams. I guess some people are fickle whores but I expected better from /rlg/ since the camaraderie has always been strong here.
Why even bother? Go up then down the stairs until you're free from that death trap
People fucking posting about their game and other people got interested. How the fuck do you think you brainless cum guzzler
>For what purpose other than stats?
well, i recall how i did off-line the zigsprint as a fewr of jiyva on the first try and was so mad i couldn't give a link to tell people how i did it on the first try.... on top of that i couldn't repeat it on-line on a few tries then, so eventually i did it as gree and as spen
>That guy who ignored the warning and jumped down into a pool of lava
The bow metagame at start was nerfed pretty hard. You barely did a fraction of the damage you did and much worse accuracy. And perception no longer gives ranged bonuses because being able to hit a target more than 20 tiles away with 14 per, 14 dex, 8 marksmanship, 7 rifles with a tricked out minimum accuracy penalty rifle triggered them harder than a firmly erect big black cock with a tiny hat on the glans at a feminism rally.
if you get an archery book so you can craft fletched wooden and fletched metal arrows and have the str for one of the better bows it still bends over most towns. It's ironically kind of easier now despite the nerfs cause you can carry 300+ arrows in a shopping cart without having to sacrifice enc for storage or be hurt by your max carry weight. Later in the game you'll transfer to a repeating crossbow or pneumatic bolt driver and chew through hulks
No, dungeon level is off of level of recent dungeons cleared and rand encounters/jobs are off of fame. The only remaining use is getting to doctor gavella as a mutant before gaining any slots so you can be a 27 slot mutant
It also took a while unless you'd gotten better arrows as you had to keep crit stunning the hulk to keep it in place and to do more than a piddling amount of damage
>It also took a while
iirc i used arrows made from bee stings, btw poor bees, i just went to their home killed killed killed them made arrows from their stings and killed them with those arrows...
It was until they book locked the recipes. You can kill everything up to a hulk with a fucking nail board and take zero damage doing it. Then kill the hulk with your pitted corners or checkboard of shallow pits. You can punch hulks to death without an art. But be able to make an arrow that does more than a rock of damage without needing a semi-rare book? Over the line!
Rip throwing endgame 22 piercing damage stack of wasp stingers. Too soon.... Felt like a motherfucking boss strutting into town with -4 torso enc, -2 leg enc, then firing barrages of wasp stingers before deep fisting everything that lived.
You just walk through houses to lose it in the collapses or train it through bushes until you make it to a forest to slow it with the occasional hit until you can beat it down. Also works if you get clusters of bushes
So I'm playing a ninja demigod in PCB and I was looking at the ladder entries for them and quite a few seemed to have taken Ambidexterity for them which I didn't really get since Ninjas can master dual-wielding anyway.
How does the stabbing shit work?
I was thinking that if I went with weapon versatility I could be doing huge stabs with any kind of good weapon that I find.
Also since I'm a demigod I guess I'll have pretty good device skill by the end so Demonic Grasp is a must take at 40.
Any tips and thoughts would be appreciated.
Really liking the stealthy ninja playstyle so far.
>For what purpose other than stats?
It simply plays better. I started offline too and thought the inventory on the right is absolutely indispensable. Turns out it's not; while it helps, I prefer the windows and menus in the online version. Not to mention the enemy display on the right which helped not to die like an absolute retard a few times, and of course spectating + chat.
>but I have no friends who would watch me play some boring ass roguelike
Me neither, yet I still watch people and get watched sometimes. It's
fun. Also you can get over not having a mouse support within an hour, which is how long it takes to get completely used to P, R, T W and x.
Forcing you to open menus to use your consumables is better than having the inventory since it gives you a brief pause from the action which will make you less likely to play as fast as you can. Very helpful in the long run.
Well I think it's less about the attitude and more about the drinking since it's Saturday night.
However I've been playing roguelikes for like 20+ years already so losing a character doesn't faze me much anymore.
All of this is irrelevant if you are playing on console. Except getting help/advice from spectators.
So basically bragging rights.
Bragging rights, help/advice, stats seem to be the only arguments for playing online. Not that 2/3 of these are bad arguments.
So bit burned out of Tome 4 (Won twice in roguelike Nightmare and Normal and unlocked all classes except Oozemancer) are there any similar Roguelike out there, preferably with tiles rather than ASCII
The savescumming thing was just spiteful shitposting from me, sorry.
I only play online for the tournaments.
Well I only play DCSS for the tournaments so I play only online anymore anyway.
you should try to get over your dislike for ASCII since after you do, you'll realize that most, if not all, tiles are absolute turds. Especially Tome's.
Poschengband is a fun still maintained *band-variant like ToME used to be.
Maybe however you should go for Sil or Furyband since they're closer to ToME if that's really what you want.
Just play Sil, it's so fucking good.
>I was thinking that if I went with weapon versatility I could be doing huge stabs with any kind of good weapon that I find.
It doesn't work like that, there was a game on the ladder that tried. You still get a big penalty for wielding a non-ninja weapon. That said, you can't master all of the appropriate weapons so it might have some use.
>Playing my morning game of brogue so I can be a depressed sad sack of sad the rest of the day
>splat a 3/3 staff of poison start for no good reason
>start another cause it was like 3 minutes
>Staff vault on d:1!
>Fall into d:2 and find a monkey on my way back
>They're all 2/2, protection, conj, lighting, tunnel
>Take prot, drop 3 ench into it. Figure what the hell, I can give him str sap and cruise to d:18 on his support
>Get emp in the next vault on d::3
>Ha nope, monkey gets fuggen rekt
>d:4 vault had a second emp but mon-keigh is dead as a fencepost so I can't get a free str sap monkey out of the run and take a 3/3 blink
>End up finding a 3/3 entrance and 2/2 lightning, discord conj staff from two take both double staff vaults
>Eventually end up with a +1 ring of wiz
>Getting carried through by an early +3 scale of multiplicity and a +0 axe
>Get an ogre on d:8, nearly blown the fuck out on d:9 trying to snag a spider
>Already have my other +3 ench I should get in the earlygame into my wand of emp cause I have a golf bag of literally garbage staves, and no detect magic to find malpots to help me
>About to run out of food
>Build split in 3 directions
>Every fight needing some desperate measure of nearly dying, trap assists or swimming across lakes/diving chasms
>Hope status: lost
Game is so fucking brutal when it gives you a gold bag of garbage and no detect magic. You can't hold onto enchantment for shit and then this happens
if you showed this to a medieval guy he would probably think it a moralizing picture meaning that a self-destroyer would be met by some huge eyed demons in the hell
notice the hair of flame and the lights of hellfire in the eyes of the demon
Not gonna bet on myself.
Brogue ally ai has fucked me twice today. First the monkey getting burned in the brushfire key vault and now, my ogre runs off a wraith just barely then allhu ackbars into an ogre totem pack while I'm bone dry of stave charges and can't malpot without fucking him too
Seems like a lot of my potions cancelled each other out, oh well.
MP powered wands might be manageable with +20% more mana, and deterioration is nullified.
Should I quaff a !cMut and hope it gets rid of the bad ones, or just play it out?
Yeah I dunno, thinking I'm gonna have to empower this ogre and try to get it lightning, slow and heal. I can't see myself lasting long enough to find a new ally and I can't build him for melee without having haste or plenty. Fug. I can feel the d:18 death already. Ideas?
>Brogue ally ai
Alright I feel you.
Fuck ally builds, I'm so done with trying them.
Jellymancer is still fun but too rare to get going.
>someone actually finished POWDER
>mfw keep getting killed by paralyzing spiders on third level
>dig through a seed catalog for it
Seeds are an awful concept that I hate more than anything.
They should just be done away with.
I haven't played in a while, but this is new to me.
should I play chess with Xom?
Yeah I can't see a way out of this without empowering him and hoping I can get enough ench and a troll or naga to put it in before they die cause they wont have jack shit for support when caster brogre gets railed by gas lighting or allahu ackbaring into a kraken or tentacle horror or some retarded shit. Gonna get some water to think it over and inb4 get it invisible
Out of like a thousand games you play there'll only be a handful you can even start it It's like spawning a jiyva altar in temple so you can finally play it.
A seed catalog is kind of ass cause of the spoilers kneecapping the challenge if you misuse it but having seeds for competitions is nice
He did. Still haven't put the ally control patch in either. Same with crawl.
Well that I agree with but I just hate the concept so fucking much.
It's just my opinion of course and I understand people disagreeing with it but something like >>128007103 and >>128007132 would be much more to my liking.
Emphasis on "my".
It's not startscumming based though. Those players need more time in the seed catalog trying items out to break preconceptions of x is shit and figuring out how to use them well. Then, now that much less is wasted on them they can cobble runs together. If the forum didn't die I'd link to the weekly comps where a handful had a winrate of like 80%
I don't know if he outright rejected it but it's not like he's went boy howdy this sure makes my game less shit, here's a release guys.
This is bullshit.
Read some Brogue tourney threads and git gud.
You might be thinking of TGGW.
Even here, where most people are much worse at Brogue than tourney regulars, we get people going far on most seeds posted while others die at d4-7.
I hate Brogue allies so much
I know it's not unpopular to do so, but most focus on the mechanical aspect of them (they're a pain in the ass)
but I don't like them from a flavor standpoint either
I'm the fucking adventurer, fuck you
Speaking of Brogue, lets do a seed run. As usual, spoiler your progress and have fun!
Starting area will look like so.
Welcome to my tomb faggot! You're welcome to visit anytime!!!
FUCKING EVERY FUCKING ROGUELIKE WINDOWS ARE FUCKED UP ON WINDOWS FUCKING 8.
EVERY FUCKING GAME.
THIS IS WHAT BROGUE LOOKS LIKE AS IS.
FUCK YES I MAD!
Also PCB keeps constantly resizing the windows and I've tried absolutely everything to remedy it.
I think it's time to end it.
Apparently it can't path to me and is summoning forth a terrible army of molds.
I just discovered that I get more mana from using eat magic on clarity rods than actually using them, which seems kind of silly.
so in infra what's even the point of cloud mind or the whole rogue class altogether if enemies past depth:5 can generally just see you even if you picked all stealth traits, see you again the next turn you cast cm and can't be oneshot by stabbing anymore?
reset agro after noise or getting seen so you can down a whole pack of cultists
Except that's the case if you didn't get imperceptible? You can usually kill half to 3/4 then get the rest with a calm mind or keep your distance and stealth right past them. You're probably opening doors or using a noisy weapon. Stuff outside dagger stabbing you just shoot or avoid. You don't have to kill everything and pretty much anything you can't daggerstab is just draining your bullets/consumables anyway. If you took treasure hunter and +carry weight stuff, good ammo management lets you get the benefits of being able to avoid 3/4 of the fights you don't want to and have almost the same accuracy of a war vet
Herpaderped into a vampire bat. Figured two not fully id'd trasnferrance rings would pull the weight. I realized I was wrong too late and fucked up trying to quaff for life instead of running as the bat burned.
cultist's are never an issue unless you get nailed in a wall as soon you open a door
and i know opening doors in noisy but you are forced to open them unless you spawn in the same room as downstairs
Well it's not really too serious it's just that all the windows I use every fucking time move like 20-30 pixels in a random direction every time I start the game and sometimes the main window minimizes for no reason.
I'm starting to think it's because I'm in Japanese locale for muh porn games.
I've done everything I can with the ini-file but it just isn't helping.
Well fuck me, that fight took forever. Between the summonings and teleporting, both hers and mine, and drained me of all of my resources.
Tonberry stronk, though.
>Playing forays into norendin
>Hall of traps
>Oh boy, treasure chest time!
>Nearly die and use up loads of bandages to get bracers of deflection
>Finish exploring the level
>Stealth shrine lets me pick a feat, disarm trap
I think AD&D went for that because something something mortals can't truly have superhuman strength. Yeah it was only for Strength. It was dumb in D&D and it's even dumber in *bands because you can just write 40 as you said. I think Furyband does away with this nonsense, but I'm not sure.
That AC is with Stone Skin activated. Without it's 168, for now.
Damage is pic related, but that's with slaying bonuses from a ring of combat (+10, +10) and cesti of Fingolfin.
Resists could be better, got some holes. Can't find good equipment that won't give me HEAVY ARMOUR OMG. I have good stealth though, so that usually helps a lot.
I wonder how hard it would be to remove /01 values from PCB and use 3-40 instead of x/y representation.
I think it shouldn't be outrageously hard, but knowing PCB's code it could be a nightmare.
I guess it'd mostly be balancing and polishing, maybe make it a bit more LoTR-like, maybe make some separate dungeon for Amberites.
There's things to consider for sure.
Plus plenty of classes/races need fixing.
Oh and not to forget a total overhaul of the "divining your fate" feature because it's pretty useless in its current form.
Getting a fate like "You are destined to find a fucking mushroom on level 1!" just pisses me off and needs to go. The fates need to matter.
Well yeah, that's about the only one.
I was thinking more like for example maybe you're destined to meet a unique, maybe you're destined to find a special vault (vaults need reworking too btw, they need prettying up) things like that.
>I think AD&D went for that because something something mortals can't truly have superhuman strength.
Yeah but they can't truly have superhuman intelligence or charisma either, or so I would think.
Hey everybody, what are the best *bands other than PCB, Vanilla and Sil?
I didn't know that was possible. One of those tonberry monks needs to find this.
Poschengband feels more enjoyable without the wilderness. I am worried though, how balanced is it to compared to the full deal? I guess you are left out plenty of chances for bolstering stats and getting items.
Also, when did Mindflayers get ESP?
This baby has two enhanced electric motors. The safe speed is so low because it rolls forward on fourteen tiles worth of tank treads. That minireactor was a real lucky find, I don't think I could have powered this off solars alone.
Your attached image really brings it to life.
No, I didn't forget the picture. You're supposed to IMAGINE it in your MINDS because you're not tilefags.
sweet you're closing in on lvl 50!
Time to find con-boosting items to counteract some of Kaschei, especially since you're probably like 8 points over the 18/220 for intelligence despite not having reached your internal cap yet.
if's balanced, you just don't get access to the Olympians and because there are fewer dungeon guardians sometimes it's harder to raise your fame as quickly
Mindflayers get SInvis at 15 and ESP at 30
Aww yeh. Who jelly of my sick phat lewtz?
Pick nature. You don't have to grind for healing as much from what I've heard from monk players.
trump is solid, the summons are useful, the teleportation magic is excellent, and teleport other comes early and is super handy
the healing realms are also good as others are saying, but trump can do it
Not bad for a series of poor decisions(tm)
At 0 armor you're at 100% hitrate so it's not like it matters. You're already fgged
What's the best class for the trump realm? I always wanted to try that card stuff but I get wrecked on rogues.
I got the ghost "Q" as a random quest boss and forgot to bring some detect inv pots. Whoops.
Is there some kinda nethackian trick I can use to lure and kill this motherfucker or am I just gonna have to move back and forth until he wanders into me enough times?
well rogue and monk are pretty good for it imo but if you're not enjoying it on rogue maybe go with a Beastmaster. They're the gotta-catch-em-all riding and pets class that is only allowed to take Trump.
Or a monk as you first thought, since it's quite decent. The other anons are right to point out the handiness of lategame healing powers of course.
Well it's literally mostly summons and some utility, so. Can be fun, sure.
But if you want to go summons I'd suggest picking a Q instead, since you get full EXP from the Q's summons kills.
Beastmaster maybe? I've never played one, but they can only pick trump so you'd think they'd be good at it.
Of classes I've tried, probably ranger. Note that riding and archery doesn't mix well at all so you'll have to pick or the other (at least early on).
Level 50 at last.
Final power: 10d13+588 mana storm. For comparison, my staff of mana storm does 425. Also, nether immunity, levitation, a couple points of speed and passwall.
It's a -20. If you've already hit skilled and you're in the earlygame it's not too much of a problem. And then it's trained enough with enough stats and launcher bonuses later that you do good enough
Hmm. What music goes with roguelikes? Chiptunes don't seem to fit, and the genre is too weird and wacky for john williams general adventuring music.
I suppose something atmospheric? Or some kinda slow tempo power metal, if such a thing exists?
You should regenerate enough to cast one-two extra times before running out. You'll fail 1.36 per mana pool on average (assuming you regen for one cast). Still, assuming you fail 4 and don't regenerate any mana, that's 7800 damage per mana pool.
Christ this got tedious. Thank fuck I never found rMut or I probably would have felt compelled to get more runes.
>Why care about meaningless titles when you can just park your skill at 26 at little cost and get the politician or whatever title when you're bored in pan.
Why even post if you're just going to be an elitist crybaby?
> play sil for first time in a long time
> killed by a fucking bush
here i thought the usual roguelike bullshit of getting killed by a rat was bad.
Why did you put that in quotes?
It's very obvious that anon is playing the most boring, easy combo ever with optimal skilling and then complaining about a game playing itself but requiring inputs being tedious. It has very little to do with the title itself.
yo lichbro I'm trying to re-build my poschengband in a way that lets me enable wizmode so I can show you what non-kaschei manastorm looks like. I used to do it in a hacky way that is easy but it's taking me a while to figure out the "proper" way but I'm curious as to how much extra dam it gives (and how much HP it costs though my wizmoded character's liferating and stats won't match yours so that's less useful).
Wew, never seen this one before.
Pretty good for dual wield. Shame I'm not using weapons.
Sil is great. Read the manual that is in your sil folder, it's 100000% essential for making informed choices.
Bushes are suprisingly nasty, but they don't dodge so you are best off fighting them with your highest-damage (and by extension often lowest-accuracy) weapon you can find.
I wish the windows fonts for sil weren't so awful, but I play on cygwin anyways.
Dasai is actually pretty good at times, on the right character. That's a shit ton of AC.
Oh yeah Aglarang is one of the better weapons for sure. Vorpal_2 on high dice with other upside as well...
>tfw rng'd some BOMB ASS rings on d:1 and then d:2
i know i mean if the ghost stays where i died or gets moved to a more suitable level, i ask because i never seen any retarded ghost early and i'm sure somebody already tried this
Well gee game, thanks.
How about finally giving me a defender ring you cunt.
You can meet XL 27 ghost on D:3, yes.
Sometimes bad things happen during orb run.
Here's the lich boss artifact. On one hand it gives me a ton of mana. On the other, I lose the +3 con and reflection on my other helmet.
I'll never forget my Draconian Swordmaster who found Werewindle at level 18.
Yeah, get git for your system. msysgit or cygwin are good solutions for windows.
Then clone the repository.
Then git log --grep until you find the commits which changed the local tiles interface.
Then git revert them.
If you find the commit(s) in question, I could probably just do this for you, but without git you wouldn't be able to keep updated with trunk and obviously downloading new builds would not have the changes.
I fell 3 floors through a shaft and now there's a hill giant and a sky beast following me.
Here's hoping it works out and I end up with a kick-ass undead minion. I forgot to train dodging btw.
Well, killed the giant, sky beast has me on the ropes, quaff-ID in hopes of heal wounds and got poison instead. Used curare against a hippogrif on the other end of the hallway.
Oh yeah, good point.
All the characters I've worn Amber with had like a 90% fail chance with healing staves so it was a fucking godsend.
>i got the ogre racial ability that lets me hold a 2H weapon + shield, suffering a "50% less damage proc on your *offhand* weapon".
I saw stunt talking about that in the ingame chat a while back, so it's a good bet the tome devs know about it. I don't know if they recognize it as a bug or if it's intentional though, because a lot of the Sun Paladin skills are based off of shield damage. It might just be a case of ambiguous wording in the weapon of wrath talent description.
I think the temporary solution is to not play Ogre Sun Paladin.
Ninjas are best.
Also, anyone has any idea why this particular kobold skelly is friendly?
Yeah, Amber is great and all, but in super-endgame stuff the cooldown is pretty restrictive (especially considering turns while being at >+30 speed). On a lot of characters I'd rather use Terror Mask or Emperor Lich if I find those.
you have high virtue in unlife, could be caused by a bunch of things but the most common are casting death spells or killing priests/pallys
Always nice in the lategame to see Black Reaver (friendly)
>not always posting in a veiled "oh guys yes it's me, Implojin®, but don't pay attention to the fact it's me, Implojin®, btw how about some more Implostreams® ;)"
fucking scum of this thread
Well I'm sure finding a lot of shit I've never seen before on this run.
>implying i'm implo
>implying you actually think i'm implo
the only reason it came up is that people asked him if he had won those games in those ways, he didn't even give his name
and i want streams because he said "there's more to watch" on madness tome over mumos, which i doubt in some ways
I have two healing staves, haven't seen rods (or Amber) yet.
Though I found Corwin. And killed him, because I want his gloves.
This was a bad idea.
Try some of the hybrid or stealth classes.
Strong enough to tab if needed but has a lot of utility and other options.
Or try something completely different with Ring or Qualthylug for example.
There are times in a Tonberry's life when he wishes he was a pure caster.
Then he remembers - wait a minute, shitlord. I cast all the time. I don't need no stick to fist.
Damn good stick though.
many more hungry ghosts in labyrinth now
like ALOT MORE
