This is about the fastest I've gotten anything to go in FtD, although the jets feel like they might be cheating a bit since it isn't water-based propulsion. On the other hand, since I didn't enable jet control in water mode, I can easily turn off the jets and just run with the props for a low speed, precise maneuvering mode.

Not really sure if this design has any practical applications, though.

those are custom jets.

it's basically just three dildos with oversouped custom jets welded together with some wings in between. custom jets trade the metal cost of making engines and engine powered jets, for fuel cost per time.

Robocrafts max RP amount is being cut down to 999,999,999RP, so that they no longer have people reaching over 2 billion and fucking up the 32bit system.

Goes into effect next week, probably during the patch that will add the new Flak Cannons.

Sucks because I have 1.3 billion RP, and now Ill have to spend some dosh to bring it just under a billion. But fuck, theres nothing to spend money on anyway once you get to the top tier and play megabots for a bit.

They should just let people buy premium, or cosmetics, or colors for retardedly huge sums of RP if they want.

They do patches on thursdays, so next thursday we are apparently getting a new weapon. The picture they posted makes it look like either a massive gun emplacement that will be on all the maps that each team gets, or its a new weapon type to use on your bots.

Im not sure exactly what it is. But god help them if its a weapon you can put on your robot, because it would be fuckign hilarious if they put out an anti-air weapon so ground units dont get shit on so hard by flying units, only to have flying units use it against ground and be even stronger.

Aight, server has been update and is currently booting up the game world. Since the update also ruined SESE support, we are doing this with our low-tech fallback service. That means, no manual saves, only autosavves, and a couple other things that mostly affect Keo and me, but not you as players.

It shoud work in atmosphere and around 1G and be able to make tight turns. 14x means, a maximum of 14 blocks wide and/or long, with 1-2 blocks lenience for extra slim vehicles. When you got that, give the grid a name and message me on steam. I'll try and make them indestructible, so we can race despite clang. That also means, pls no rotor/piston stuff. I would have to make each subgrid indestructible individually...

I'm about 1/3 of the way done with the Rocinante. It's a lot of heavy armor and interior walls, so it'll be expensive as fuck to build in survival. But, it's as close as I can be to source material, including the "vertical" deck orientation with the nose of the ship being up and the engines being down.

When it's finished I'll publish it to the workshop. After I finish the Roci I plan on building the Canterbury, maybe an Earther Frigate, and I've been tossing the idea of building that fuckhuge mormon generation ship cum battleship.

Hey /vg/, I think this is my first time posting here, so please bear with me.

I wanted to start the construction of a jet/hoverbike. I mean a vihicle that would float above the ground in atmosphere or on stations, but woudn't require to manually compensate for bumps and other changes in the ground height. So basically, like a normal bike, but with thrusters instead of wheel.

Now, I started to work with thruster ofc, and sensors were a natural choice for this work. After creating a test frame with thrusters and a sensor below, I found a problem:
While the sensor did trigger, when the distance to the ground was smaller than 1m, and then increased the override of the thruster, thus increasing the height. The problem was, that I was unable to decrease the override after the sensor wasn't triggered.

After a bit of trying (and failing) I decided that probably using the programmable block would be the way to go. Now, I did a little bit of C++ a few years ago, but I can't say I'm fluent in C#.

So I came up with [pic_related], but it says that the method used for increasing override is wrong.
Also I'm not entirely shure if this would work, as this is my first project with programming in space engineers.

Could any wise anon help me with this?

With Ai plugged up to missile warner, I can get lasers to fire at it, but even big lasers on continuous or pulse can barely hit missiles, they only land hits about a third of the time, can maybe stop one.
Anti missile interceptors don't actually track onto missiles, and even if they did, I doubt they'd have the agility to actually hit them.
I feel like I'm missing something obvious.

It's a pain but it's not as bad as it may seem since people pretty much have to stop what they are doing for you. I drive a giant van when I do installs and I find it less stressful than driving my personal since most people tend to give clearance and stop for you, plus drunks can easily see you.

They shouldn't, each side turret puts out a pair of 125mm shells each second while the main wheel is putting around six 500mm shells downrange each second. The side turrets are also pure KEP rounds which is pretty inefficient. They're mainly there to give me a firing arc that's not trivial to escape and to make shields less able to tell the entire ship to fuck off.

Alright Spengies. Kromkar again. I'm finishing up the Rocinate, but I've run into a pretty big problem. The ship is built true to canon, which means the main thrusters in the ass of the ship are technically on the "bottom".

So when I pilot it, the ship is basically incorrectly oriented 90* in regards to thrust direction and control scheme, where forward is towards the dorsal spine and up moves it towards the fore of the ship.

Is there any way to change which movement keys the thrusters respond to? The large thrusters for foreward propulsion are currently moving "Up"

Megabots are very painful to play as most times. Its literally the most teamwork intensive game mode in the game, and since most players are shit it can he extremely hard to play.

Getting through metal beams is actually pretty hard. If you've got a 250mm cannon firing 4m shells, you could probably do it if you just redesign your ammunition. Try an AP cap, followed by a penetration depth fuse, then a couple HE warheads. Try and maintain enough velocity so that the round's armour-piercing is still at least 5.

In my experience, one of the best general-purpose ship-destroying rounds is a HEAT shell. That is HE, an inertial fuse, and a shaped charge warhead. These don't rely on speed to destroy armour, so as long as you have at least one gunpowder casing to get your shot into the air, you're gonna do some damage when your shot eventually hits. Try a 250mm gun loaded with belt-feds of this round for a rapid-fire armour-piercing cannon.

I've just finished my very first "proper" vehicle in FtD feels good, which was made more for testing rather than for actual combat.
I had no reference on how many propellers and size of my engine should be. Plus I have expected top and bottom attached propellers to acts similiar to thrusters in Corneroids to help me dive and resurface. Which probably shows just how much I know about naval engineering.
I wonder, how can I make a submarine that won't resurface on it's own? I'd like my sub to stay underwater.

Is this a good idea for a turret? It would allow to make turret head smaller and store ammo safer, but I'm not sure how good it is to make a big shaft. Should I encase shaft in armor additionally?

Just slap a weapon on it, and give it a waypoint system. Find a way to feed it waypoints remotely. Use a script to do this to several at once. Bam, ground units. Drop them from orbit with a detachable retro thruster pack, do this 8 to 10 at a time, point at ground facilities. Hell, drop them to hunt down those shagohod things. Battle Gear could be useful as shit.

The only method I've found that's any good is anti-laser smoke and flares.

Flares distract IR missiles, and yes, missile targeting lasers get blocked by smoke like regular lasers.

Timed fuze flak rounds do a hell of a job of shooting down missiles if you get the angle and timing right. Basically requires lua, but is absurdly effective and makes interceptors and LAMSes look like shit.

Alternatively, I think there's a few lua scripts for interceptor guidance on the forums that make them actually usable.

The ship you start with should be enough to beat an attack or two, I'd recommend making another ship or to fight alongside it and then heading east and taking over the next resource zone.

Ideally you want to keep your starting fortress out of combat at all costs, since it's a giant target and will cost buckets of resources in repairs due to all the hits it'll take.

Each zone produces different things at a different rate. If you mouse over the resource zone icon on the map (M key map, not the E or N key maps) it'll display the growth rates for that resource zone. You can mostly ignore the current quantities, since they'll shoot downwards until they hit a stable balance between being generated and being depleted. "Trace" means you won't be getting any of that from that zone.

Mega-SMGs will relegate you to being a glass cannon; they put out major DPS and are awesome at ambush, but skilled players can easily shoot them off and they're obviously huge targets.

Both of those combined with mech speeds means you'll either got to get good at jumping plasma shots or just build hardier.

It's almost entirely due to the fact that 'HP = CPU' that electroplates are somewhat undesirable, because they take up a lot more CPU than just the equivalent amount of blocks in their place. Once an EP gets taken off, your 'health' is reduced a lot more than you'd expect, and the more components you have (really of any type) the more chance you have of suddenly dying when you still have functional parts on your bot.

Then there's how EPs play into bot regeneration, which really seems like FJ just totally forgot that EPs were a thing in that scenario. Thing was, in the past, EPs were made for hit-and-run since they could get into a skirmish and slip out without taking damage, but now they're extremely hit-and-run, and because the EPs come back uncharged when regenerating, there's going to be a huge 20 second gap between when you take damage and when you'll be able to charge back into the fight without just getting torn up again.

As I said before, I've heard bugs that EPs sometimes just get one-shot out of nowhere, which would be consistent with the fact they only have one connection point and whatever the hell they forgot to change in the process of upgrading to Unity 5, but in any case, most of my instincts have lead me not to use them - largely because I already have issues with getting enough CPU to electroplate my bots.

So in short, Chassis takes up less CPU, has got more health, doesn't fall apart in one unlucky hit, regenerates with full armoring intact, and can be built in cooler shapes.

That tiny seat does not count as exposed to the outside. Sorry. The game does not know it's a seat. It treats it as a sealed cockpit, since the SNCNC mod is from before the days of oxygen and conveyors running into cockpits.

Me too. If it's any consolation I think I was sort of wrong on the 'mysteriously one-shot' thing, since that seems to only apply to megaEPs at certain angles with SMG fire. In any case, here's hoping that they do something about EPs problems.

Thick, solid, and interconnected full blocks work best against SMG. Spaced armor and weaved armor works best against plasma, and triforcing works best against rails.

Then you're either building your ships too shallow, too high in the water, or with too much heavy shit up top. You could pretty easily get away with making most of that superstructure out of alloy or wood to cut an assload of weight.


Or you can be lazy and balance with hydrofoils, it's basically impossible to fuck up with them.

Ah, there's the issue. A thin bottom and a thick deck makes for a topheavy craft.

If the metal cost is getting too high, I'd recommend putting in a layer of stone on the bottom. Maybe around the belt too. It'll add weight down low and make things stable and it won't cost any metal.

I did actually fire a few rounds in that direction, they got high enough that I couldn't see the water anymore.

Is there any reason to go up there? I've watched a few videos and spent a dozen hours pissing about with the game, I only know there's an orbital element because of the character traits relating to it.
